The Official Good Ideas Thread™

I did. But the word "hell" itself should generally preclude anything good.
Sure, but that makes your rhetorical question futile.Edit: much like this line of conversation.
-
That depends if you want to, say, be productive at any point in time.
I do and I am. You can ask my wife how good I am at tuning out things in my environment.
-
And you're still married while ignoring her?
-
Tell your wife an internet stranger sends his regards. Just because.
-
And you're still married while ignoring her?
That actually works better than you would expect.
-
Speaking as someone who, ultimately, had a fortunate escape after 10 years of 'relationship', I'm not convinced I agree, but I can certainly see circumstances in which it might work.
-
Here's the thing: a man who won't stand up to his wife won't stand up for her either. So you can't be a doormat who does everything she wants. Well, you can, but that can lead to a relationship you feel the need to escape from.
-
It's like you knew her.

It's not that I ignore her always. But at least during work. Actually, this is more important in the summer, when kids are home. Especially my son, who will not just shut the fuck up.

Ah, the magic of children.

There are common relationship patterns. Many are a result of well-meaning but counterproductive advice.
-
Indeed. There were a great many issues in that relationship. My being a doormat was, in hindsight, one of the smaller ones.
-
Your being a doormat could have been a cause or contributing factor to the other issues.
-
Oh, I'm well aware of it. Poor communication on both sides was the largest factor, however.
-
-

I never worked from home when I was married. My ex-wife made herself impossible to ignore. I also went to work when I was sick — had I ever contracted cholera, I would still have gone to work — because I could get more rest at work than at home.
-
Sounds rough man. I used to work for a guy who made us stay late every night because he didn't want to go home to his wife. He hated her that much. They stayed together for the kids.
-
Nah, it was just that she had to take care of the kids, do dishes, laundry, etc. when she was sick, so there was no reason for me not to do the same.
-
Sounds like you're off with a good start. Add soms orval. Or Westmalle. I've alsof steen Grimbergen abroad. So you mocht Fins that one.
Westvleteren is told to be the best. But that is only sold at the Abby itself.
I like Geuze Lambic, Liefmanns or similar for summer evenings.

My spidersense tingles… detecting your enjoyment of some of the things you recommend. (And every last one of them that I've tried was indeed very nice, though I find myself more attracted to slightly less strong beers now so that I can have another one afterwards…)
-
I like stronger ones, because they're usually tastier ;-)
-
I find the stronger the beer, the closer to vinegar it tastes.
-
It depends on the quality of the beer, and whether you've developed a taste for it. I'd recommend a visit to Oktoberfest, that was a pretty good education for me ;-)
-
I have tasty English beer, don't need foreign import thanks.

Yes, there are too many people in this country that fall into the category of oxygenated-morons.

Bye bye dubstep

There is a disturbing lack of metal and honest to goodness fucking rock on there.

This is just electronica. It's probably just a blip near the bottom on the chart with Justin Beiber and others...

SMF doesn't count as a relationship
-
I don't know what ANY of those genres are.
-
No, that 10 years was with the evil ex bitch queen from hell. I haven't made it to 10 years with SMF yet and frankly that's been paradise by comparison.
-
I have no idea what any of those are, nor how to tell the difference between them.
And what is the vertical axis?
-
I can sort of distinguish about half of them. And dubstep.
No idea what's the vertical axis. Maybe the popularity ranking in some general chart?

If this isn't some kind of hoax.... amazing.

Not sure whether this or the Bad Ideas thread should get these, but...
Spotted in a pub while I was in York:
I'm fairly certain they knew what they were doing juxtapositioning them like that..
-
If this isn't some kind of hoax.... amazing.
Why would that be a hoax?
It's just tedious. People found Game of Life was Turing-complete years ago, from there all else follows.

The beauty of ignorance. Just the other day, I was like "Hey look, these rats can fly! Amazing!..... What? Pigeons?"

This great response to an Ice Bucket nomination

I love these visual math explanation GIFs.

I don't get this one. What's the deal with counting out the result with your fingers?
Edit: on second thought they're probably counting out factors of 2.http://i.imgur.com/sYgj4HS.gif

Got an updated flyer today for the Fiber rollout. 20Mpbs for $30/month or 50mbps for $50/month, and we have 7 business days to opt in before they start turning people on. A week later, they're booting out Time Warner Cable from the entire property.
