🙅 THE BAD IDEAS THREAD

For some reason I read it like the guy from Scooter and his "Aiiiii!"
Man, why did I remember Scooter? And where is my collection of Scooter MP3s, it might be time to go down the memory lane and look judgingly upon my younger self for genuinely enjoying it.

Oh my god, that brings back a few memories!
-
The gods of irony are strong today. I typed Scooter into Rhytmbox and 2 results came out:
- One(Always Hardcore) [Really Scooter? Really???]
- Aiii Shot the DJ
That raises the question of where the hell the rest of it is...

Bah, I've not read all details but in the reality it might just loop 100 times overall. I mean, are there known bounds to the arrays we are iterating over? And how was that an idea? What's the idea: "let's make an O(n^4) algorithm" or "let's reduce file size"? Because reducing file size is not a bad idea in itself, only the implementation on the given algorithm was.
-
An O(n4) algorithm that reduces the file size of a file that is only loaded once per mission
If the cost is being borne by the developers but the advantage is being gained by the consumers, that's probably a reasonable trade-off.

It depends. There are multiple levels of developer-consumer relationships in games. We have:- Engine developer
- Game developer
- Modder
- Mapper
- Player
Pick any two. The top one is the developer, the bottom one is the consumer. The O(n4) algorithm is run by anyone who touches a map that needs AI.

It's natural waste, just as farts are natural gas. I don't see how this isn't environmentally sound.

Well, I suppose it is making a sound in the environment…

EPA management “consulted” with workplace violence “national expert” John Nicoletti, who said that hallway feces is in fact a health and safety risk.
They needed an expert to tell them that? The EPA of all places?
-
The EPA of all places?
I'm not sure if in the hallway is part of the EPA's area of expertise.

Having more than half (52%) of your country's households receiving more in benefits than they pay in tax.
-
Given the uneven distribution of wealth in every country (a few rich households and a lot of poor ones), is that actually surprising?
-
a few rich households and a lot of poor ones
Seems to be either begging the question or a questionable definition of "poor."
-
But this is a member of the G8, one of the most economically powerful nations (in theory). And it's an indictment of how wonderful a nation is that it can't manage this stuff.
-
I meant "poorer". Poor in relative to the other ones. I.e. having less money. I don't think there was any question to beg.
In other words, if most people's wealth is under average, and you start redistributing wealth, most people will get richer.

I guess we have to ask about the point of public assistance at this point. I'm not that familiar with Britain, but if you're redistributing out of a sense of social justice, you are terrible.
Now, TFA mentioned that the 52% included in kind stuff, especially health care. When you have something like the NHS, I would expect that to have a large effect on this sort of stat. OK, take that out and you're down to 37%. Still really god damned big.
The US is on its way to being a pension plan with an army. This seems worse. Though to be fair, I don't know what the same figure is for the US.

Just what we need, another person who doesn't understand the difference between wealth and income.

I think this conversation is happening in the wrong thread.

It's in at least 3 threads at this point. At this rate we should take over the entire forum some time next week.
-

And lazier, and more demanding, and more of a drain on the productive members of society...
-
Be fair, I expect it to take two weeks, but domination of this forum should happen.

I think this conversation is happening in the wrong thread.
So, you think this conversation is a good idea?
-
No, I think it's a bad idea made worse by thinking it was a good idea to have it here.

At this point we need TDEAF - The Daily Economy Argument Forum.

The Daily Economy Argument Forum
I am not sure if I am surprised that this isn't already a thing.

Flat tax will solve all problems. People will be flattened by the tax.
Economic arguments get heated enough here, you don't need to add your trolling to them.

I dunno, I think it was a decent enough joke. Got a chuckle from me anyway. Then again, maybe I'm just tired.
And now, by current reading, I apparently "like" that @Nagesh is deleting his post.

I wasn't sure whether people were liking it because it was deleted, or they had liked it before it was deleted. But I can certainly jump on the "liking because it was deleted" bandwagon! No! I'm avoiding that thread and I don't want to self-ban from the new bad ideas thread.
