🙅 THE BAD IDEAS THREAD

As long as they didn't also call it vegan ...

Well for all the accuracy it had, it might just as well have been...

I wouldn't put much stock in Darwin Award stories; half of them are probably total fabrications anyway
There actually was a story not too long ago about someone actually doing that: http://www.elkharttruth.com/news/indiana/2014/12/10/35-years-for-Indiana-man-in-Russian-roulette-death.html
ETA:
I thought there was a different case, but this is the one I found.

Pedestrian detection test for a self-driving car
http://i.imgur.com/KHxg080.gifv
Except... from the youtube comments:
The thing is both the people testing the car, and the person posting this video have stupidity levels beyond the charts.
- They were testing pedestrian detection automated braking (City Safety).... Not automatic parking... hence driving at people and not being near a parking spot
- That car did not have technology package in it which enables pedestrian detection, you can see its missing the radar which should be visible in the grill of the car but its not there, so no there is no pedestrian detention. Only vehicle detection comes standard in Volvos, you need a technology package to enable the pedestrian detection which was missing from that particular vehicle.
-
Not to mention
- Tested the pedestrian detection automated braking feature by driving it at someone.
Seriously, the only way I'd try that is if someone was in the driver's seat and I had previously tested on like a cardboard cutout or sometihng. And even then it'd be stupid.

The proposed revision to the Model Penal Code would turn a young man on a date into a criminal if he timidly reaches out to hold his date’s hand without her prior positive agreement. (Because the proposed revision is written in gender neutral terms, theoretically, the young woman would be guilty if she initiated the contact, but in a society where gender roles are largely defined by pursuer and “hard to get,” and where male complaints of sexual assault are hardly ever reported and even less likely to be believed, this proposed law is intended to punish, and change, traditional male behavior.)

I... I'm not sure what to say about this. So I'm going to put it here.

I just heard the name of the game. Yandere simulator. Now everything makes sense. This is probably a highly entertaining game. Girls lying to eachother for the sake of their murder plots is the very first thing that happens.
This game impresses me in so many ways, after that video. I'm not into yandere, but I will make sure my friend who is knows about it. He'd laugh hysterically for days.
-
Wow I hope they paid the homeless guy who did their voice acting for that command performance.
Also... is the voice acting of the girls even human? Or like that high quality AT&T voice synth?
What's the motive for killing people in this game? Your dad is abusive, so therefore murder?
-
Yandere is a Japanese trope where a girl is insanely obsessed with a guy, to the point of murdering anyone who talks to him, and generally stalks him, in extreme cases kidnapping and anesthetizing him. Not something I'm into, but it was important to the plot of Mirai Nikki.
-
What guy? The school was a girl's school. There's no guy.
-
Could be a teacher or something. I don't know. Or maybe she's a lesbian. All it said was 'yandere', so she must be interested in someone.
-
I don't speak your crazy moon-language.
-
That's why I described it rather than expecting you to. I know nothing about the game, except what that video showed.
-
Crazy. Moon. Language.
-
It does make me wonder, though. Maybe my friend will try it and tell me what the character's motivation is. I don't know how old this is, so maybe he already knows.
It would be entertaining if she simply has a boyfriend who lives near her or something, and kills anyone he thinks sounds interesting when she tells him stories about school.
I mean, it's meant to be Japanese, so it could even be her brother.

She's in love with a piece of cardboard attached to a tree?
No wonder why she's plotting insane murder plots ...

this is perfect. If he doesn't move, he can't cheat, so It must be her classmates trying to seduce him.

I don't speak your crazy moon-language.
As only Americans have been on the moon, that must be American English, much of which can be legitimately described as crazy. As I have interacted with you for years, I can only heartily agree with you.

Sitting in an engine of a plane that's about to fly?
-
I don't know what airports you go to, but the handful I've been to don't have the plane's engines running while passengers are boarding…
-
But should all flight crew have access to those parts of the plane while it is being boarded? You can probably assume that flight attendants aren't going to muck with a plane they are about to take off in on purpose, but ...
-
Sitting in an engine of a plane that's about to fly?
If the flight crew knows she's there, so they don't accidentally start the engine, and she's not delaying the flight, why the hell not?
Seriously, why not? Who's she harming, under those circumstances?
-
Does she have clearance to be on the tarmac? What's stopping her from planting a bomb there (other than that she is flying with the same plane, which is not really a barrier)?
-
Does she have clearance to be on the tarmac?
Yeah, this is the key thing, to me. I can't think of a reason to let a flight attendant down there on one of these planes.
-
Sitting in an engine of a plane that's about to fly?
Oh come on. Seriously? Let's assume she has an IQ above 75.
Look, I agree it was stupid of her to do the photos while there were passengers on the plane (not because she was doing anything wrong, but because she should know people are panicky morons), but the photos themselves are no big deal.
Even the CONSUMERIST, the most panicky-moron of all possibly panicky-moron blogs, says "I guess she shouldn't have done that", that's the strongest reaction they can work-up. (And, seriously, Consumerist bitches about everything.)
But should all flight crew have access to those parts of the plane while it is being boarded?
The article itself says that tarmac access requires an escort, and they didn't bother fact-checking whether she had one or not. Since we're assuming she has an IQ above 75, let's also assume she was there legit.
If the flight crew knows she's there, so they don't accidentally start the engine, and she's not delaying the flight, why the hell not?
Exactly.
Seriously, why not? Who's she harming, under those circumstances?
Whiny busybodies.
Does she have clearance to be on the tarmac?
We'll never know since our "quality" journalist there was too fucking lazy to bother checking.
-

There's still liability issues. Now you need to fire whoever was escorting her.
WTF? Climbing on the engine? She gets hurt...later mechanical problems...major liability headaches.
-

Because...?
For all I know, he wasn't in violation of any airport policies, he wasn't doing anything illegal. Fire him for what cause? He should have telepathically known Boomzilla was going to complain about this?
Now if he did do something wrong, then certainly, yes. But, again, that would take actual investigation to know.
WTF? Climbing on the engine?
Yes.
She gets hurt...
It's a 737 or something sized similarly. She's like maybe 3' off the ground. (Seriously, ground clearance is a huge problem in jets of that size-- Boeing would love it if they could design the engines to be high enough flight attendants couldn't casually climb into them.)
later mechanical problems...
Like what?
What could she POSSIBLY do from there to cause mechanical problems?
BTW, I love how ABC 7 Eyewitness News in Chicago just drops the term "I-Team" several times in the article as if we should all know what that is. I assume it's their investigative reporting team? The "investigative reporter" who didn't even bother to phone the airport to find out if that flight attendant had a badge to be on the tarmac?
-
For all I know, he wasn't in violation of any airport policies, he wasn't doing anything illegal. Fire him for what cause? He should have telepathically known Boomzilla was going to complain about this?
I'd be surprised if the airline thought it was cool to have random people climbing on their engines. That sounds exactly like responsible practice.
What could she POSSIBLY do from there to cause mechanical problems?
I don't know, but she wouldn't have to cause damage. Having your flight attendants climbing on engines is probably good evidence that you aren't serious about maintaining it.
-

If she were a fat dude named "Chuck", would you feel better?
Because fat dudes named "Chuck" crawling into engines is what maintenance is.
(Disclaimer: "Chuck" is just an example; they could also be named "Ray", perhaps.)
