I think you meant to post this in the good ideas thread.

That'd depend on the sort of oil used. And no, it's still a bad idea. Just a slightly different one to the one you were thinking ofβ¦

RPG games for mobile phones. Terrible idea.
I got one in a Humble Bundle. The game itself is not bad, but
- I don't usually sit in front of my phone for hours to play games. RPGs require you to do long tasks, like collecting items, levelling up skills, etc. which is the opposite of what I want to do when I'm waiting for the bus.
- Phone screens are way too tiny to see stuff in those 90s polygonal graphics.
- Touch screens are not exactly on par with a keyboard and mouse when it comes to moving and fighting.
-
RPG games for mobile phones. Terrible idea.
I suspect they're not terrible per se, but they have to be structured quite differently to the normal ones due to the very different ways that people use mobile devices (both physically and temporally). Most of the implementations of the concept don't bother with this, and so are terrible.
-
3D RPGs in a phone screen are terrible. Any FPS in a touch screen is terrible.

GIS suggests that it looked like this:

new blackberries have touchscreens
Mine has a touchscreen and a keyboard. My previous 3ish year old one had touchscreen and a keyboard.
although the newer of the touchscreen models has physical buttons including QWERTY as well
Not just the newer ones.

You can't wipe the screen clean without doing goodness knows what
Nothing happens on mine if you wipe the screen with it unlocked.
edit: Oh, on the 4th go the notification panel opened.

No More Funeral Strippers
Why would they hire strippers? Hoping to get a rise out of the dead?

IT'S NOT WORKING

Yeah... not sure what happened when I was tapping that out

I wiped the screen on my laptop to get rid of the 'black bits' above the letters

That's actually in the German tech tree in World of Tanks, because the Germans used more captured S35s than the French did. Go figure.
Actually I'm wrong, just a couple days ago they added it to the French tech tree as well, in French colors. I haven't played it yet. Tier III.

Zoo Keeper Helps Constipated Monkey Pass Peanut By Licking Its Butt For An Hour
That's "dedication". Also the start of a new fetish.

If the post-it with the password for your account on your computer is attached to the monitor of your computer, you might want to rethink your system.
Hmm. Wonder why I haven't thought of this before: Post-it pads with pre-printed passwords.

Right and there is absolutely no chance that headline was made up by some troll.

Absolutely not. But, if so, this is a mass gullibility event. (Oh, and, yes: I did look there first.)

You know my beef with modern smartphones?
NO BUTTONS.
And this is why the Motorola Photon Q is probably the last best phone ever made...
-
-
Could always sing a few racist songs. Anyways, they obviously had access to beer. What more could you need?
I'm sure I'm not alone in saying that beer and racist songs have seen me through many a hard time...
-
More to the point, why did MS include a picture of a (white cat in a) snowstorm in their blog so that the oneboxer would select that particular image for this story?

So tell me again how a physical shutter button is superior?
4 buttons. Not 3. That's one more buttons.
So once again, my Photon Q crushes all competition with its fifty-eight physical buttons, including a shutter button.

BlackBerry make several.
I meant like a real phone though, not a BlackBerry.
Although I will concede that the Passport looks interesting...
-
or someone releases an actual new phone with a hardware keyboard...
I use my Chromebook as a phone. As an added bonus, the hardware keyboard is big enough that I don't hit multiple keys at once by accident.

The bus driver suggested fellow students might stand up to see what she was reading or she might poke herself in the eye with the corners of the book.

Shots fired.
Bad Idea I just had: Make a bot called @swampy that posts a Markov chain fed with all @spectateswamp's posts
-
This post is deleted!
-
That reminds me: still need to create the corpus for @RPBot. What from? My post history!
-
Would it be distinguishable from the real thing? Back in the day there was some discussion about whether or not he was actually a Markov chain.
-
Maybe we could make a @markovchain bot that posts a markov chain based off the given username...
Nope, too lazy.

I did love the plain old Droid line of phones, and I hope they bring it back, but my Razr HD is treating me well.
And they're (Razr HDs) only $100ish used!
The problem, unfortunately, is getting the phone thin enough to make it worth it.
-
That's what @MottBott is, execpt Discourse keeps finding new ways to crash my uncrashable1 Python bot code.
1Entire application logic is wrapped in a Try-Catch block contained in an infinite loop, and the application itself is controlled via supervisord which restarts the process if it crashes out. Even that setup is not Discourse-resilient!
-
What? How on earth does it even die? Does Discourse
SIGKILL
bots or something?
-
I don't know, and I haven't had time for proper debugging. Maybe it's hitting the supervisord restart limit. I set it to some ridiculously-large number, but hey this is Discourse.

The Razr HD is a nice phone (I had the M, which was basically the miniature version of it...)

But that still doesn't explain how it exits the while(true) try catch... How do you even manage that!?!?
-
I'd guess a memory leak of some kind causing the process to run out, or some of the application data is not being properly re-initialized between runs.
-
Hmm. So maybe not Discourse?
-
-
No, Discourse is definitely triggering the crash, I was able to figure that much out when I band-aided it with supervisord and the infinite try-catch loop.
The original problem I fixed had to do with something Discourse was serving up that wasn't quite valid JSON and was blowing up the Python JSON parser. There must be some more edge cases I haven't accounted for.

The writeup on exploiting the bootloader unlock code is good too
Yup, did that the moment I heard about it. I made the XDA thread too :)
