I watched the gameplay video from that link and it does look pretty awful. The menus and umpire moves are quite nice but everything else looked bad, confusing or wrong. I'm a cricket fan and the way the bowlers bowled and the batsmen played their shots was a bit off, wild glitches aside.
Cricket has been a difficult sport to convert to computer game in the past (these gems notwithstanding). The difficulty stems from a few different areas... you can sort of make bowling OK with a timing-based direction and speed selectors but batting has always felt like a lottery. Fielding has always been handled by the AI.
Are baseball games any good? They seem to have similar mechanics to cricket...

No. I was wondering if they still made baseball games, and was shocked to find they still do. I get ads for hockey and football games, but never baseball.
The one and only good baseball game I ever played was Intellivision Major League Baseball. Though that may just be the nostaliga talking. The number-pad controller was perfect for controlling the team.

The worst part is, that video doesn't even come close
You know someone, somewhere, looked at that and said "Yeah, that'll do."

At least in that one they were trying. Check out this one from 09:00 onwards. Even more fun from 15:25 on. The batsman wound up with 108 not out from 5 balls. :)For bonus fun, at around 6:00 you can watch a fielder apparently pick up the ball and throw it the wrong way, to the boundary.

Ultimately, that's TRWTF in all shitty software.

I've tried to read about Cricket and understand the game, but so far it just seems like gibberish. This video from the Ashes 2013 video game pretty much sums up what Cricket seems like to me whenever I read about it.

Your mistake is thinking of it as a game.
Cricket is to the Commonwealth as Zen is to Japan.

The impression I get is that cricket is to days/afternoons what golf is to good walks.

Something not quite entirely unlike a religion?

I've never been able to deal with a game that can go on for five days and end in a draw...
