Broken reply button
-
You can't see it in the screen shot, but my mouse pointer is over the Reply button. Notice that Chrome thinks this is a link pointing to a completely different topic. Yes, clicking the button takes me to that post instead of opening the editor. (The editor is already open because I clicked the Reply button on the OP in the topic, because the Reply button at the end of the topic was misbehaving.)
-
cannot reproduce on chrome latest 64 bit on windows 8.1
sorry
-
How did you break it? Otherwise CLOSEDNOREPRO
-
No clue, really, other than that it happened right after this. Discourse and/or Chrome were just massively Belgiumed for a while. It's just one of those bizarre, random s that I fully expect that nobody will ever be able to repro except, maybe, through dumb luck, but reported it anyway.
-
I have a feeling this bug is identical to all the other bugs caused by Discodevs not knowing how to properly hide HTML elements.
-
I support this theory.
-
properly hide HTML elements.
Yes, there's a lot of this. I've taken to long sighs and hard refreshes.
-
-
I find opening everything in a new tab seems to avoid the need for a lot of the hard refreshes.
Of course that means the only way to increase the chance of Dischorse working properly is to deliberately use it in the Jeff™ Unapproved way.
-

I do that occasionally, but I like just navigating around and not having to worry about notifications or whatever getting out of sync between the tabs.
-
Probably freaking usercards.
Try clicking someone's avatar in a different post and see if that "fixes" the reply button you're trying to reach.
-
Probably freaking usercards.
Yes. Every time I've bothered to look, there was a ghost of a usercard fucking over my user experience. Is there a bug filed on meta.d for this? Hmm...I notice that on meta.d a hidden user card gets warped to top/left -9999px
-
Ah, that was done here:
-
Hmm...I notice that on meta.d a hidden user card gets warped to top/left -9999px
Great progress. One of these days someone will discover
display: hidden;
.It probably won't be the discodevs.
-
hand-crafted mention link creates invisible div
Duh...
Which I had already liked.
So I guess we just have to wait until the next beta is declared.

That was a "fix" for a bug logged here.

Yeah, once I saw the topic on meta.d, and who created it, I remembered the history, but CBA to do anything put post a chain of replies to myself here.

What? They're so eager to unload stuff from the DOM when you're scrolling, why the heck aren't they just getting rid of the Belgium thing? Ordisplay: hidden;
, like @Onyx wrote, but how often do you look at a user card, dismiss it, then look at it again? Not often. Having to re-fetch that data is not going to happen often enough to (IMO) justify not discarding it.

I saw @aliceif still using my userstats extension in some of her screenshots. Maybe she could give us some statistics since that thing fetches
/user/username.json
on every post update anyway.Since I still got no death threats I'm going to buttume it's not that bad. And re-fetching it on click would generate even less traffic.

I would hope they actually discover
display: none
.That was a "fix" for a bug logged here.
Yup, a bug I reported. That new beta can't come fast enough.
-
I would hope they actually discover display: none.
In my defence, @HardwareGeek didn't catch it either! :P
-
Or display: hidden;, like @Onyx wrote, but how often do you look at a user card, dismiss it, then look at it again?
I look at user cards a fair amount. Mainly for new / unfamiliar users, to see how long they've been around. The div gets reused for subsequent views.
-
And exists before you show one.
-
In my defence, @HardwareGeek didn't catch it either!
In my defense, I'm a hardware geek, not a web design geek. I know enough about CSS to wind up in CodeSOD if I wrote any. :)

Of course that means the only way to increase the chance of Dischorse working properly is to deliberately use it in the Jeff™ Unapproved way.
Is there a Jeff Approved™ way which doesn't suck?
-
I notice that on meta.d a hidden user card gets warped to top/left -9999px
Why don't they just hide it properly‽‽‽
-
-
-
Is there a Jeff Approved™ way
Not sure if you can even go that far. He seems to be changing his mind every five minutes. Or next minor release. Whichever comes first.
-
-
-
Why are you guys making the user-card non-visible and moving it instead of just using the CSS display property? Or jQuery's hide()?
Occam's Razor suggests: Because they don't really know what they're doing.
-

They don't use
display
because of the animation. As @RaceProUK said:Then animate opacity or whatever it is you use, and when the animation's over, set display
Of course, zog still isn't saying why they can't use
.hide()
.
-
They don't use display because of the animation.
Belgium the stupid, pointless, unnecessary, "pretty" animations. Just make the Belgium thing Belgium work! I don't want eye candy; I just want something that doesn't Belgium itself every 30 seconds.

Be it done?
Usercards seem to behave now. Not that I did any extensive testing, mind...
-
Be it done?
http://what.thedailywtf.com/t/poll-are-we-on-the-new-version/9099 seems to indicate that we aren't updated yet ... (unless the poll fix isn't part of the latest beta, in which case )
-
Well, I don't see any phantom usercards anymore. Just tried clicking a few avatars and I don't see any phantom
div
s.Oh, hold on!
Poll is a plugin! Maybe the core got updated but not the plugins?
-
I wasn't able to click an edit button, so I guess the bug still exists - the update probably still didn't happen.
-
Oh, yeah, got it just now myself.
Yay for Discoursistency, can't even test this shit properly.
-
Poll is a plugin! Maybe the core got updated but not the plugins?
We now have version 0.2 of the poll plugin. That looks like the most recent.
