Micro$oft sells all their shares on ebay
-
Continuing the discussion from I am tracking this thread:
I routinely (at work) run two Chrome instances with 10-12 tabs each. Two out of the last three images I pasted have, instead of uploading to Discourse, crashed the Chrome window. Not the tab. The window. No popup saying "are you sure you want to close all 17 tabs", just gone. Thank god for Reopen Closed Tabs.
It's not the whole Chrome process, either, because my other window stayed open. I only have one Discourse tab, it shouldn't have killed my other 16.
-
How many of those tabs are Discourse?
-
See edit: only one
-
I wonder if that's related to the the bug I reported earlier, where if you paste in one composer, it pastes in every open composer, regardless of tab?
-
Probably.
-
Fuck this shit. My post asking if this was related to the already reported bug was auto-hidden due to "off topic". I'm not going to bother making a bug report that will then be closed as "duplicate".
-
That's shit; it was relevant to the topic, as we thought it might be the same cause
-
Exactly.
I'd comment more but all that's coming to mind is Tim Minchin's Pope Song, so I'm just going to walk away from this until my head clears.
-
In this case, a post being hidden as "off-topic" actually means that a new topic is wanted.
This post is not relevant to the current discussion as defined by the title and first post, and should probably be moved elsewhere.
-
Braving a likely crash, but this:
in no fucking way communicates "Yes, it's unrelated, please make a new topic".
The words "Yes, it's unrelated, please make a new topic" communicate that sentiment.
That showing in my email is more like a slap on the wrist. I was "bad" somehow, apparently, and need to reconsider how my post fits into the "community" or risk "suspension of [my] account"
Nope. I'm out. Someone else can write this one up.
-
Feature request: when handling an off-topic flag, have an option to "Agree and move to new topic".
Would send a different message, saying "your post was flagged by the community and moved to a new topic by a moderator" etc.
-
I think you need to think more about what the community wants in their bug tracker. Obviously Meta.D is a great community, so they don't actually want, you know, bugs in the bug tracker. That would reflect badly on the community.

Dear Riking,
This is a manually written message from TDWTF Kuro to inform you that your post was not hidden.
Your post was read as off topic:The comunity - which is me - feels like this is off topic to the OP which was "pasting images can close entire chrome windows".
If you don't change your post, I might be forced to change the title of the topic to make everything even more off topic. Please consider this!
However if you post another off topic thing, the topic might derail into something completely different until handled by the staff - and there might be further action, including jeffing posts and more title changes!
For additional guidance, talk to our very own blakeyrat.
Sincerly, some guy on the internet.
Filed Under: TL;DR: Why the hell are you requesting features here on TDWTF? Oo
-
Perhaps @riking can change the title to "Pasting images can close entire Chrome window (feat. Riking balderdash)" and then his post won't be off topic?
-
I think in this comunity, not being off topic is the most off topic you can be!
Filed Under: Topic title should read: "Micro$oft sells all their shares on ebay" or something so nobody ever know whats going on!
Couldn't @riking (as an admin on meta.d) just jeff @Yamikuronue's post into it's own topic?
Thanks to @nedfodder quick thinking, @riking is now perfectly on topic! Lucky bastard

He has weird ideas about this stuff. You only got the email because it was community busy bodies flagging you. Himself would have just deleted it and moved on.
-
How about "no more robots doing moderation, fuck robots"?
-
I've replied again, asking whether the two issues could be linked; I think my post will probably be OK, as I've detailed how I think the two issues may have the same cause. But if that post too disappears, then my activity on meta.d, as low as it is, will likely tail off as well.
-
How about "no more robots doing moderation, fuck robots"?
DONE and DONE. In fact, this never happened here.
-
I flagged it as "something else" and asked them why it's hidden.
-
So, my post survived long enough to get a reply; guess either the busybodies moved on, or I played the game well enough.
Either way, the reply is 'maybe, but highly unlikely'.
-
FYI...I think @riking Jeff'd it to a topic:
-
(post withdrawn by author, will be automatically deleted in 24 hours unless flagged)
perfect quote!
It also did not unhide the original post... so wtf Discourse?
Filed Under: Or it was flagged immediatly
unhidden now: which confused Discourse:
-
False positive on spam, apparently:
-
It also did not unhide the original post... so wtf Discourse?
Nope, it didn't... @Yamikuronue needs to edit the post for it to show up. I tried unlisting and relisting the topic, but that didn't actually unhide the post, just the topic.
-
lolwut
-
Yeah, that was the response I got from my flag.
-
Huh, apparently moving a post breaks the bookmark system. I booked marked @Yamikuronue's post which "starred" the topic. Now her post is still bookmarked, but so is the old topic...
-
Moving a post breaks a few things.
-
Fun fact: I got two notifications for the nastygram from Jeffbot on Meta.D. You know, the bug I was trying to repro when I found this one.
It was a "reply in another thread" and a "PM" message. I think the PM notification is crucial to the repro steps on that one.
-
"Agree and move to new topic".
You haven't used StackOverflow.
You weren't a part of the big war over whether to just move a question to the Programmer's SE. And the Programmer's SE getting pissed about so much shit being dumped on them.
Yes, he handled that situation poorly.
But it explains his fear to handle situations correctly.
-
Moving a post is not an atomic operation
-
That's a new one.
"I wasn't being an asshole, I just thought it was spam! NOT AN ASSHOLE HERE."
-
You haven't used StackOverflow.
I have. And this is still bullshit.
The close messages have been softened and softened over the years, but it still feels icky to have your question closed for new users -- it feels personal, and it feels like you're being told "you're not welcome here". That's because no matter how nice it's said, the message is still "Your post wasn't welcome here", which is awfully close to "We dont' want you here". If there's any way to salvage a question via editing, doing so comes off as a lot nicer: more of "You almost got it right, but we helped tweak it". And the nicest of all is people actually talking to the OP in comments to explain what's going on.
I guess I'm TR for expecting Discourse to have learned from StackExchange's lessons.
-
StackExchange's lessons
StackExchange hasn't learned from StackExchange's lessons.
So, TR 's your .
-
I mean, I don't understand why an alternative isn't like a 30 day dropbox, where you say, "We tried to edit it, we really did, but we couldn't discern where you are coming from and what your intent is. Here the question will sit, private to you, so that you can edit and repost it. Please look over the FAQ for assistance."
-
Here the question will sit, private to you, so that you can edit and repost it.
They were aiming for that when they changed "Closed" to "On Hold" for the first iforgethowmany days.
