  • @boomzilla the part you’re getting at isn’t related to behavioural advertising specifically though, that’s a function of all advertising.

I guess we need a definition?

Behavioral advertising (aka online behavioral advertising or “OBA”) allows advertisers and publishers to display highly relevant ads and personalized marketing messages to users based on their web-browsing behavior. The primary purpose is to deliver targeted ads to the behavioral market segments most likely to be interested.

Seems like what I was talking about. :mlp_shrug:

I mostly get ads for slavic dating.
I used to get ads for menstrual products, and menopause products.
Lately there has been a alew of ads formagic "exercises" and food that will make you into a superhuman.
Nothing that has ever been relevant for me.

Though I've several times gotten ads for motorcycle helmets after I've bought one, and I usually go to a well stocked store to buy one. I rarely get ads for them before I actually buy one. I usually send an email to the company what did they advertising explaining that they wasted the money and they should take that to with whatever ad broker they used.

You've been a superhuman for years and don't need any foods more special than pickled herrings?

To address stuff mentioned before in the thread...In general, I think it's rare for ads to directly lead to sales in most cases. It's more about building brand recognition, where you're more likely to trust something you've heard of. Like everyone else, I have no idea how well all that works, but I'm highly skeptical that there's no effect.

That's got to be a fine balance though.
While I'm sure it works to some degree subconsciously (and one reason I go out of my way to block ads as much as possible is that I don't want it to work), there's also the ads that I recognize consciously and then make an active effort to avoid their crap.
