Apple: not so nice and shiny any more
-
Nice article where (former?) Apple fan whines about the current crappy state of the Apple world.
Yes! Your tears of disappointment... *lick*.... mmmmm... so sweeet...
-
In my pocket is the iPhone 6.
Hope it doesn't bent then ...
-
iTunes takes forever to launch, and is bloated mess of way too many features and functions.
iTunes has always been like that no?
-
Mm, your tears are so yummy and sweet!

I was using iTunes 2 on OS9 for a while. It was actually a pretty good, lightweight music player back then

No don't remember it being any of those. It was big and bloated. In true apple style it always tried to force you into using it the right way.
No wonder Jeff likes Apples.
-
ok, pretty good and lightweight compared to the then current version of iTunes (this was in the OSX 10.4 days)
-
Yes, iTunes has always been bloated. I think it contains separate libraries of considerable size for each device it can talk to. But iTunes 11 really took the cake. It's 100MB by now. 100MB FOR A PLAYER AND SYNCHRONIZE TOOL! And it's incompatible with all previous versions, of course. And it's forced upon you when you upgrade to OSX 10.9. And it still has annoying bugs, e.g. sorting. And it still complains that it cannot find 100 or so of my files even though they're in the same directory they always have been. Apple is indeed falling back into its bad habits of the early 90s.
-
Beginning of the end for the RDF or an isolated and accidental ingestion of the red pill?
-
I never understood why would anyone allow that bloated piece of crap to manage their media collection. Even worse, they mangle all the filenames and poo over everything, so that you can't ever use a different software without a huge headache.
I just don't get it. No device is worth dealing with itunes, no matter how shiny the hardware is.
-

It comes with the OS and works well enough (i.e. plays music, responds to media keys). That's my reason for using it on my mac, at least. You're right about how much it sucks, especially on Windows, but the OSX version is not shit enough to get rid of it.

@antiquarian reminded me that that textfromxcode exists:

Sorry!
I didn't know that you have to put http:// in the URL.
Filed under: Discourse, why are you so annoying?

Hey! Keep passing!
Mmmm! That's good!

Yes, iTunes has always been bloated.
The other day was tasked with trying to figure out why one of our Mortgage offices were running so slow...turns out one user had her user drive reset (we use a redirect to the server farm so their content gets backed up every night) & was re-syncing to the home server via the office's VPN connection...80GB of iTunes files IIRC.
Not that the user knew how those files got there...

itunes.... we hastes it! we hates it! every time we want to use it it burns us... it moves our files around because it knows better... we put them where they are for a reason! it has an option to stop it doing that, but it forgets that we checked it about once a week.
we try to use it but it says we are not logged is, so we log in and it says we can't log in because we are already logged in from this computer...
we hates it so we burn it... with fire... using thermite. because then it might feel like it is home again.
-

we hates itunes! we hates it! we no longer wish to use it. we now wishes we had never tried to use it!
we hates it!
gollum... gollum.... we hates it

Why do you want it feel at home? You should be sending it to the depths of the ocean instead, or getting it frozen in a glacier.
-
or getting it frozen in a glacier.
when did [afterlife: bad end] freeze over?
last i checked the thermostat was still set to "melt lead"

Eternal living torment can be a worse fate than hell ...

I was giving options other than sending iTunes home. I said nothing about hell freezing over.
Does no one pay attention anymore?
-
we hastes it!
Haste is a good mage buff spell. Throw in a Bless from your cleric too :)
-
-
last i checked the thermostat was still set to "melt lead"
If it's from hell, i.e., hot, it probably likes the heat, so putting it in a cold place would be punishment.
-
@accalia: Exactly my point.

Exactly my point.
I forget, does it count as a "woosh" if one knew what was intended but decided to pretend that one didn't because one thought it would be funnier?
I'l admit i didn't get what you said until i was about half way through writing my response, but i liked where my response was going so i decided not to change it.
-
Unclear. ;)
-
-
You can have the "oosh". I want to keep the "wh", because it might be useful.
-

It does say "when someone seriously didn't get the joke," so I think we have to deny this attempt.
-
did i get the "wh" or the "oosh"?
You should keep the whoo and let him have the sh. Or you could add some extra o's and each have a few.
-

DEAL!
we have to deny this attempt.
honestly, i never plan on trying for that badge. the way my brain works i figure it'll eventually turn up anyway so no sense in rushing things.

I've got two. Both earned in the early morning.

That's what i figure will happen to me. Or possibly I'll break open that fifth of Russian potato vodka i have in my closet and have a very interesting evening.
-
This is waiting for me at home.
-
Costco brand! Big spender.

If I'm not going to remember it, it might as well be cheap.

QFT
for me i buy the top shelf stuff because i go through it so slowly i can amortize the cost over several months. the bottle i have open now is at least 8 months old and looks to be lasting another month or so.
-
That bottle probably won't make it through the weekend.
-
well in that case.... BOTTOMS UP!
-
I forget, does it count as a "woosh" if one knew what was intended but decided to pretend that one didn't because one thought it would be funnier?
Only if you want to punish the person for failing at funniness. (Is that a word?)
-
well then, does this help?

Send it in the other direction. It's hotter.
-

It it were vodka, it probably wouldn't make it through an evening with me...

So in the event that @PJH visits you're going to hide in the closet?
