Current Status: 1000UTC. Dressed up in a suit. At work.1 We have our annual Chrismas Chore tonight.
Upsides:
- It's my last day at work this year
- Free alcohol. Or has been every year thus far.
Downsides:
- C*O Management will be there. CEO's speech last year lasted 90 minutes and started about the time the buffet was being set out. Sneaking out to get food while the speech was droning on was perceived to be a no-no.
[1] I normally wear jeans/T-shirt at work. I normally, since I'm normally off half for at least half2 of December, make some effort when going to the Xmas do. Events conspired against me this year and I have to work the day of the do.
[2] UK. 25 (working) days holiday a year. Plus bank holidays. I used to only take the bank holidays off during the year, plus the occasional other day. Since our use-it or lose-it date is Dec 31st, working backwards usually meant I was off from either the last week in November or first week in December. I got told to stop doing that...

I went to ours yesterdayCEO's speech last year lasted 90 minutes
CEO's speech lasted maybe 5 minutes. Followed by 1,5 hours of semi-well known people cracking half-funny jokes.Dressed up in a suit
Went in my work outfit of that day. Jeans, a shirt and sneakers. Only suites where CxO and sales. At least the food was good and the venue was nice, a renovated chapel.

Status: Flinging mud at the wall and see if it sticks ...
I have some access excrement I need to roll into an other access and update. Because it handles sales figures I don't have access rights to the original underlying tables. So I'll take the access sql copy-pasta it in the second excrement heap. Make the obvious table name and parameter changes see if it sticks.
-
Yea! Our contract got funded with an hour and half to spare!
Wait, that mean I have to come to work.
-

Is the bar open at that point? (I'm assuming no).
Back when we used to have these, our president used to speak for an hour or more but it was after the meal so you could get drinks. People who didn't know looked at you really funny when you sat down with 4 or 5 beers right before he got up to speak.
-

Last year it was open before, and there were bottles of wine on the table, so it wasn't quite that bad.

Though nobody having had any food yet would have made the drinking more interesting. Hopefully nobody decides to heckle.

Our lot are (with the odd exception) reasonably restrained in that regard. And one exception I know of is likely to be too bladdered by that point (really!) to bother shouting up.

Edit: WTH, discourse? I know I clicked the reply to topic button ...

My friend sometimes has trouble with certain PC games, because they assume an XBOX controller. They don't detect Sony ones at all, apparently. Which doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I sure hope it's just Sony being dumb.
-
My friend sometimes has trouble with certain PC games, because they only support XInput controllers. They don't detect DirectInput ones at all.
FTFY. If anything, that's Microsoft bullshit, not Sony or anyone else, because Microsoft made the XInput API specifically and distinct from DirectInput instead of keeping with DirectInput.
-
Once I'm done toady, I'm off through next week.
Ah - I'm not. I'm 'on call' 29th-31st. But that'll involve working from close to home. Probably in my local pub, with laptop connected to WiFi At least until around 1700 local.
-
As for me, I've got an adapter for my ps2 and gamecube controllers, which every game seems to be fine with, but if I'm not playing a fighter, I tend to go with the 360 controller I bought a while ago. It might be different if my GC one was an official one instead of a slightly bulkier third-party one. Maybe I'll do something about that some time.

Status: Bugs aren't bugs if we decide to ignore spec except in cases where there's a bug which causes us to follow spec It honestly isn't used much so I can definitely see it being lower priority reddit manages to get it right though

ditto, today is also cpny party (the invite spelld it cpny..... )
-
Not in NCL I hope... :-D
-
NCL
i'm assuming you mean Non Commissioned (officer's) Lounge
and not Norwegian Cruise Lines (like google seems to think)
in both cases. no. they rented the second floor of a pub.
-
That's an option, too.
I wish someone would come out with a good version of something like FFTA for Android. I'd pay for that. I remember Penny Arcade did a strip about it: http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2003/09/22
-
emulator? most phones are more than capable of doing SNES or GBS (and FFTA was released on the GBA)
-
International airport code for Newcastle UK.
And I don't think function rooms in a large hotel count as second floor of a pub.
Though the hotel does have the unfortunate monicer of 'The Vomit'. Due to a similar sounding name.
Oh, and a food poisoning incident a few years back.
-
Wanna swap parties btw....?
-
Ugh. You ever try using a touchscreen emulator? They suck.
That's why I don't play Minecraft on my phone even though I actually bought it there.
Really, Microsoft, or whoever, Minecraft isn't in the dictionary?
-
Wanna swap parties btw....?
hmm... how quickly can you get to Maine? i could bring you as my +1.

$40? Yeesh.
well at full price yes. they go on sale at woot.com fairly regularly for like $12 (that's what i paid) as for the fire controller: even if i hand't paid with my rewards points: WORTH IT! it is an amazing controller!
-
For what?
For what you said in your previous post.
"I'm having an awesome time! [beat] Oh god, it burns!"

Worth it. I had to get the taste of PBR out of my mouth.

I had to get the taste of PBR out of my mouth.
After a round of Jaeger shots, a friend suggested licking his own ass to get the taste out of his mouth. You could try that, but I think he's in Michigan this week.
Also, you'll never make it as a hipster if you can't down PBR, presumably without complaint.
-
You could also try durian.
-
-
And that right there is called 'passing a SAN check'

What, you didn't develop your dorf society to the point where they know of and enjoy DF? Such a slacker.

Durian… Is that a SANitation check?

I don't know, I can't hear you over the thin, monotonous whine of blasphemous flutes from inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond Time.
(When looking for the quote I have used part of above, I saw something that made my eyes widen:
)

Nyarlathotep is not what I expected to get quoted in response to that question as other stories contain the name of the game SAN checks come from, well done.
Status: So many meetings about a system breaking due to storing files long term in what is supposed to be a temp workspace. The Net App can't handle 200+k of files in a single directory, surprise*!
* not actually a surprise.
EDIT: didn't notice typo for a while.
-
I have not read a lot of the source material, but among that which I have, I found Nyarlathotep the most memorable.
