Yes and I'm sure those'll be useful to the guy 4 levels too low to wear them, or can you wear armor higher than your own level?

I made Drozahn.
You say that like I have some kind of telepathy and would know if that means anything.
-
@FrostCat you are aware that it's possible to level up, right?
-
@FrostCat Yup.

@ben_lubar said in Gilled Horse Chew:

So why didn't you wait to give it to him until he'd hit that level?
-
@FrostCat Why do you give a shit what he does with his own time and money? Fuck off.
Maybe the answer is: because he didn't realize FrostCat was LORD AND MASTER of all crafting activities on GW2, bow before HIS HOLYSHIP.
-
@blakeyrat said in Gilled Horse Chew:
Why do you give a shit what he does with his own time and money?
Sorry, I was practicing acting like you. I guess I'm not as good at being an asshole as you are.
-
@FrostCat Riiiiight.
-
You saw it here first, folks!
@blakeyrat glad you agree.
-
So I'm The Sunbringer now.
-
@ben_lubar Congrats!
-
-
@ben_lubar Oh good, this will be the first of these major updates that have new stories that I'll be around for.
Also, at lunch time I made the penultimate deldrimor steel ingot for Spark Experiment, meaning the last thing I need are two elonian leather squares.
-
@FrostCat if you haven't already, I suggest purchasing season 2 of living world while it's on sale.

RATA NOVUS LOGāENTRY #08
This is bliss! I have to admit, when the commander left with the others, I was a tiny bit nervous about staying here by myself, but what a dream this turned out to be! I havenāt slept in a week, and I donāt want to sleep for at least another two! Or three. Maybe four. (Note: Look into alternative to sleep.) Thereās so much data here, this place should have been called Data Novus! (Note: Does lack of sleep make you smart and hilarious? I think so.) It feels like itāll be almost impossible to go through it all by myselfā¦ But the last thing I want is some other nosy researcher horning in on my work. So many theories are swirling around in my brain; I know Iām on the verge of something big. I just need time to draw some solid conclusions.
One of the more remarkable things I discovered here is a replication (or maybe the original prototype?) of the ley-line map we found just outside of Tarir. The magical network of ley energy is alive! It goes this way, and then that way. One minute itās here, and then the next itās over there! I had no idea it was in constant flux. Although Iāve had a little contact with friends on the outside, I wouldnāt need their input to tell you definitively that the commanderās mission was successful! Mordremoth is no more! There was an intense light coming from that part of the jungle, and then one morning I woke up and it had dimmed, and the rest of the map was lit up like a Lunar New Year fireworks show!
Iām developing a system to track and log the flow of magic. I hope to find some sort of pattern. I mean, it canāt just be completely chaotic, can it? Or maybe it canā¦ Maybe it has to be! But at the same time, maybe it canāt be! Both arguments make an equal amount of sense to me right nowā¦ (Note: Investigate impact of sleep deprivation on rational thought.)
Iāve observed that the egg chamber is definitely brighter than it was. Caithe told me she was going to check on the egg and make sure it was okay. (Note: Of course she is.) I have a hypothesis about her Wyld Hunt, but Iāll keep that to myself in case this journal ever gets away from me. (If it does and youāre reading it, Caithe: Hi, friend! Youāre the greatest and you always make the best decisions!) (Commander, if youāre reading this: wink, wink.)
Okay, I just reread those last few sentences and itās possibleāthough not very plausibleāIām cracking up. Maybe I could use someone to talk toā¦ But not a real someone. Theyād just slow me down or worse. Oh! I almost forgot about Scruffy! Heās not a real someone! I miss the big guy. Iāll have to formulate a new design for himā¦ But do I have time to get sidetracked? No. I canāt. Not now at least. Anyway, Iām getting along just fine! Besides, I can always talk to my new friend, Plant! Sheās a beautiful little fern who sprouted from one of the cracks in the floor of the dragon lab. Sheās pretty cool, but quiet and green. Kinda like a shy Sylvari. (Note: Does the number of sleepless nights correlate to the amount of new flora friendships? Conclusion: Highly probable, but who cares? New friends!)
Wait, what was that? Hmmmā¦if I didnāt know better, Iād say it sounded like the gate powering up. Curious. Plant, keep an eye on my journal, Iāll be right back!
-
@ben_lubar Yeah, I thought of that, and now that I'm home I'll do it tonight.
-
RATA NOVUS LOGāENTRY #09
They trampled Plant! Those monsters!
I knew my days of solitude were numbered here, but I didnāt think they were this numbered. Word of Rata Novusās discovery must have hit Rata Sum. Asura are pouring in like migrating dolyaks, although most dolyaks I know have better manners! How many times can a girl get bumped by someone setting up a research station before she snaps?
The answer is six, and then you scream, āSTOP BUMPING INTO ME WHILE YOUāRE SETTING UP YOUR RESEARCH STATION, WINDALL!ā at which point everyone looks at you like youāre crazy for some reason!
Thankfully, when the interlopers arrived, I had a chance to shut the door to the dragon research area before they got too deep into the lab, so no one knows about the really juicy stuff. I need to keep that as my surreptitious sanctuary. The question is how to get in and out of there unnoticedā¦ Oh! Maybeā¦yes! No, thatāll neverā Wellā¦yes! Okay, secret plan number 72āletās call it: Granted Access Teleport Expressway! (Wink, wink.)
Iād been very careful about what I powered up to keep the chak numbers down, but these mindless numskulls are flipping switches left and right! History is bound to repeat itself at this rate! At least we know the causality of the chak and their appetite for ley energy. I think the Rata Novans figured that out a little too late. The chak are already popping up more often, so not only do I have to deal with Windall and his abnormally intrusive elbows, but now there are bug pieces everywhere! Have you ever stepped ankle deep into a pile of spiracles? Itāll ruin your day. Granted, with me, it doesnāt take much to be ankle deep, but still! On the plus side, Iām getting quite familiar with chak anatomy. Which will come in handy on our next chak-anatomy trivia night! (Note: Organize a chak-anatomy trivia night.)
The only other benefit to come out of this influx of dolyaks is that news from the outside world is flowing in more regularly. I heard Braham is back in Hoelbrak. Breaks my heart to think what heās going through. I should make my way up there to pay my respects soon. Iāve been working on a remote communicator based off some research here that uses the ley-line network to transmit your voiceāmaybe I can hide it in the lab and talk into my end every once in a while so people think they hear me buzzing around. Iāve worked too hard to lose my alpha status here. On the other hand, I could also use it to make them think this place is haunted. Thatās a good option too! Weāll see!
Speaking of ghosts that need to be laid to rest, a lot of these new incomers still harbor a healthy amount of distrust where the sylvari are concerned. I mean, Mordremoth was dispatchedāwhat more do they want? How can you be told what to do when thereās no one to tell you what to do? At least, I think thatās the way it works? When Caithe was here, she said the call was gone, and she had even heard of new sylvari being born after Mordremothās death! Which means the Dream is alive andā
Oh, for the love of the Eternal Alchemy! Windall just bumped me again! I gotta take a dolyak to manners schoolābe back soon!
-
@Karla is this your pet? She has your name on her:
-
@ben_lubar Since I have no idea what that is...I'm going with:
No, it is not.
-
@Karla It's hilarious because the monster is named "karka" and you are named "Karla". Haha. Ha.

@blakeyrat Sarcasm detector says: Not sure. Could be.

COME BACK @DHROMED
-
@ben_lubar Did you see the conversation after that tweet? It was pretty amazing.

@blakeyrat tigers weren't in the game until like 3 years after it was released, so maybe lions are coming in 6 years or something.

@blakeyrat apparently there are lions in the GW world, just not in Tyria:

RATA NOVUS LOGāENTRY #17
You know what, journal? These Rata Novans might have been onto something.
Thereās a primal pleasantness Iām feeling about living underground. Being constantly surrounded by soil and sediment and geological historyāitās like Tyria itself is giving you a dirt hug from all angles!
Being born in Rata Sum, I only really knew about surface life (except for that one time I fell into a deep ditch), but I get it now. Primordus forced us above ground, and the Rata Novans said, āNo.ā Iād like to think if I were alive back then, Iād have made a similar stand (and then realized the chak problem ahead of time, naturally).
So now I carry on their work. I feelā¦obligated to them in a weird way. They knew running from the dragons wasnāt a permanent solution. We have to turn and face and vanquish. That was the brave philosophy they put forth (which is kind of ironic considering how living underground could be misconstrued as burying your head in the sand!). I owe it to them to finish what they startedāand this time, itās personal. Ha! I actually meant that, but then realized how clichĆ© it isā¦ But itās apt! So very apt! I guess this is how the clichĆ© started in the first place!
Anyway, Primordus is first on my list because the bulk of the research here is focused on that dragon, but I recently hit upon a few nuggets of information on the beast in the Crystal Desert. The Exalted and the Novans shared a lot of tech, and I guess some dragon data as well. They were as concerned with Kralkatorrik as we were with Primordus. Thatās because they were constructed by the Forgotten. Now, the Forgotten were dedicated to Glint. And Glint was a former Kralkatorrikā¦umā¦chief baddy? Champion? Yes. A champion who went rogue and tried to protect all peoples from the dragons (my type of lady!). After her death, they went to great efforts to ensure the safety of her legacy. And you know what a big piece of that legacy is? The egg!
I wonder if the commander would mind if I borrowed it from Tarir for a little testing here in the labā¦
Wow, I gotta get ahold of myself. I bet thatās how Caitheās logic worked when she took off with the egg in the first place! Okay, so maybe I canāt (or shouldnāt) physically get it hereā¦but if there was some way to keep an eye on itā¦ Hmmmm. This bears investigating.
Another gift from the Exalted is the ley map I mentioned earlier. Now that the fireworks show has slowed a little, I think Iāve noticed quite a bit of Mordremothās old energy sliding in one particular direction. I say āI thinkā because honestly the magicās movement is still erratic enough that I canāt tell if itās a pattern or not. Also, I donāt even know how reliable and accurate the map is. The evidence flowing in could be misleadingā¦ Once I get it dialed in, I think it might be time to craft a letter to the best dragon slayer I know. Hopefully, my research will do right by the Novans, and the commander and I will soon be able to turn and face and vanquishā¦

An Interview with Queen Jennah
The White Mantleās activities of late are putting the populace on edge. What does the Crown plan to do about them?
First, let me be clear: denizens of Divinityās Reach have nothing to fear. We are taking steps to bolster security in and around Divinityās Reach to ensure the safety of our citizens. The Shining Blade is keeping a close eye on the Mantleās movements and activities, most of which are localized to mere raids in northern Maguuma. These arenāt the calculated motions of an organized groupāthese are the isolated activities of a handful of conflicted and deeply disturbed people. Nothing more.
What sort of security steps are you taking?
The Seraph are stepping up their patrols in Shaemoor. Whatās more, weāve tapped the best engineering teams in the Reach to bolster the city walls and shore up any weaknesses in our defenses. In the event of a crisis, my advisors have developed plans to evacuate the townships surrounding Divinityās Reach and house civilians within the safety of the city walls. But I must stress that these preparations are focused toward true crisesānatural disasters, dragon sightings, and the like.
Seraph Captain Logan Thackeray has not been seen in some time. Can you speak to his status?
Captain Thackeray suffered heavy injuries in the fight against the jungle dragon Mordremoth and is currently recuperating. One of my aides checks in on him regularly and says that heās coming along well. Knowing the captain, I imagine heāll resume his duties as soon as heās physically able and cleared to do so, and not a moment longerāthereās not a force in Tyria that can stand between Logan and his charge.
Have you gone to see the captain yourself?
I have not. Sadly, ruling a kingdom has a way of occupying oneās time, particularly with the troubles weāve seen of late. But my aides are keeping me well apprised of his progress, and I have the highest hopes for his quick recovery. He is ever in my thoughts and prayers. May Dwayna watch over him.
What news of the Pact? What measures are the Crown taking to support it?
Regrettably, the Pactās campaign in the Maguuma Jungle cost many lives, and allied forces are still regrouping following the assault on the jungle dragon. General Almorra Soulkeeper is working tirelessly to support these efforts, and in turn, we will give whatever support we can to the general. Iām confident that the Pact will persevere under her leadership and guidance.
Beyond the Pactās casualties, many Krytans perished in the assault on Mordremoth. Do you have any words to share with your people regarding the fallen?
This conflict was by all accounts one of the truest tests of resilience and resolve that Kryta has ever faced, and though we claimed victory in the end, that victory came at a heavy price. Iāve heard the cries of anguish of our people in the wake of these losses; we extend our deepest condolences and our unending gratitude to the families of the fallen, for all that theyāve sacrificed in the name of our brave nation. It is now incumbent upon all of us to never forget the courage and valor of those weāve lost and to ensure that their great sacrifice was not in vain.
And what of the Seraphās casualties? How depleted are their ranks?
A small detachment of elite Seraph forces was dispatched to join the Pact fleet on their ill-fated incursion into the Maguuma Jungle, where they were set upon by Mordrem. While we have yet to receive a full report on the casualties, several Seraph have been recovered from the jungleāand we hope to find more as our search parties continue to scour the region for survivors. I ask that all citizens of Divinityās Reach keep our brave soldiers in their thoughts and prayers to Melandru.

@ben_lubar Are you on the payroll? Why do you post these here?
-
@blakeyrat I thought it'd be a nice change from just having posts about me and @FrostCat earning meaningless virtual awards.
-
@ben_lubar I guess so. But that's one softball interview.
-
@blakeyrat "hey, about the whole 'you might be a hologram' thing..."

@ben_lubar said in Gilled Horse Chew:

How about: "when will Krytans get a democratic vote?"
-
@blakeyrat said in Gilled Horse Chew:
that's one softball interview.
Aren't they usually?
If you'd like some variety, I can give you a running commentary on my efforts to craft The Incinerator. Sample: I've created 150 out of 250 Basic Mithril Daggers that a master weaponsmith wants before she'll tell me the next thing she wants me to make. Eventually this will enable me to buy the recipe for the 3rd of 4 stages.
-
@FrostCat You know at this point just toss $10 into the gem store.
-
@blakeyrat said in Gilled Horse Chew:
You know at this point just toss $10 into the gem store.
I have had that thought. I worked out at one point that it would actually cost more like $100, but I must have misplaced a decimal point somewhere.
I hope.
-
@blakeyrat I'm not sure how that'll help because incinerator costs about $300 USD.
-
I have a GW2 related thing to relay. It's boring as shit!
A week ago or so I was looking through the online store and I saw this pair of wings that looked like a magical quadcopter. The next day I said something to Ben L about it and he was like, "whaaa? No such thing" and then I checked the wiki and shit and there was indeed no such thing. I thought I was going crazy.
Then a couple days ago Ben L IMs me and he's like, "looks like you weren't crazy, they just screwed up their store listing" with a link to an article about new store items-- one of which was the magical quadcopter wings.
TRUE STORY.
-
@ben_lubar You should calculate your "salary" for getting one, since it has a dollar value.
-
@blakeyrat said in Gilled Horse Chew:
TRUE STORY.
As far as I can tell, there's about a dozen or so purchase-for-real-money glider skins, and every week or so they change which one you can buy. Ditto for a lot of the vanity armor skins, backpacks, and whatnot.
I saw someone last night flying with the quadcopter, it looks kind of neat. But I've already bought a different glider.
-
@FrostCat Well duh.
The point of the story is they'd screwed up and showed that one to me before it was supposed to be shown, then when I described it to Ben L I sounded like a raving mad man.
-
@blakeyrat said in Gilled Horse Chew:
I sounded like a raving mad man.
The other way to prevent that is to not rave.
-
So I wanted to find out how much it would cost me to unlock the tier 2 collection achievements for the legendary precursors.
That's $359 for materials, plus 234 days of crafting cooldowns. Probably not going to happen any time soon.
-
@ben_lubar If you're going to do that, just by the dailies, duh. Deldrimor steel ingots are only like 8G, maybe lower on days I haven't looked.
-
-
@ben_lubar said in Gilled Horse Chew:
Ok, that only raises the price to $520.
Once you're talking $360, $520's not much farther off.
-
@FrostCat or I could just not, because it'd cost me $3645 for the full set.
-
@ben_lubar Why would you want ALL of them anyway?
-
@FrostCat said in Gilled Horse Chew:
@ben_lubar Why would you want ALL of them anyway?
Gotta catch 'em all.
