Yes, I've tried them, and yes, they're just as bad to me.
OK, weird. Unless those were blackened olives (quality black olives are actually kinda hard to get), you must be tasting something I don't taste then…

I hate olives. Immensely.
Have you ever tried black olives? Because there's a huge difference between the cheap, unripe green olives (which I don't like either) and ripe, black olives, which shouldn't taste bitter at all.
Don't like either and black is the kind that is normally on pizza, or salad and nicer restaurant.

Often, those olives are just blackened using iron gluconate and aren't actually ripe, either. Very few restaurants actually use expensive olives, most of them just cheat and hope you don't notice.

I'll concede the possibility that I've never actually tried a real black olive then. (I have such an aversion to trying them that it's not a stretch.)

Olives are delicious. All shapes, sizes, colors, stuffed, unstuffed, ... yes to all.
-
-
Coconut, hate the flesh but still like Coquito (Hispanic Eggnog).
Discuss....

@error Just in case you feel lucky someday, those are blackened olives:
This is what actual black olives should look like:
-
@Karla coconut is good. Also I like to fry with coconut oil.

I tried once it was awful...but I use it in my hair and on my skin.
But it doesn't alter at high temps so it is a good oil to fry with.
-
@Karla Um… Sorry, I guess? I'm actually hungry now, but unfortunately I don't know any supermarket nearby which sells good olives. :/
-
Fresh coriander is lovely, and I'm very happy I'm not one of the deviants who can't stand it.
I used to make curries but one son doesn't like almonds, the other half doesn't like coconut, and the other son doesn't like raisins, so I got very bored making four slightly different versions.
-
@Karla I've had coconut oil that was really unpleasant, and I've had some that was milder. Also I think you get used to it to a certain degree.
Your stomach definitely needs some time to get accustomed to it, so don't do anything that really sucks up oil (like falafel... learned it the hard way) if you're not used to eating copious amounts of coconut oil. You will throw it back up. Start with small amounts, like a teaspoonful or less, mixed with another oil if you need more than that to fry in. (Once I googled it and figured out that it was the coconut oil rather than just food poisoning, I ended up eating 1 piece of falafel every day until it was gone and it didn't cause any more problems. But oh boy did I feel sick after the first day when I ate a bunch of it. And I'd been frying in coconut oil for a long time, and still never quite experienced that.)

I'm a two-fer I don't like almonds either. Though almond flavoring I like. Again, weird.

No, I was on a health kick for a while where I did have a teaspoon of oil in the morning. It was a while...it never got easier.
I get capsules now and only use the actual oil topically.
My husband uses it in his coffee (I hate that too).
I'm just weird.

@asdf I don't find onions "incredibly disgusting", but I don't like them either. Most importantly, I don't like how they are everywhere. They seem pointless and annoying.
But then, I hate most food anyway. I would literally live entirely off plain spaghetti if I could.

Plain, plain, PLAIN spaghetti? That's just blasphemy. I get extra sauce!

Spaghetti is yet another thing forboden to me. But I found a wonderful low-carb alternative:
-
@error Shredded cabbage. This making me hungry and reminding me I should get back to low carb.
Oh and make an awesome bacon and cabbage dish.
Speaking low carb experiments: I made low-carb jalepeno poppers. I was very limited with the jalepeno because I never cooked with it before...I can add more next time. They smelled awesome, even a couple of my non-low carb kids liked them.
-
@error I have wanted to make Cauliflower mash, too.
-
@Karla said in I hate Cilantro thread because why not?:

Also, always make the sauce yourself. Most pasta sauces you can buy are shit. There's nothing better than homemade pesto genovese or tomato sauce made from fresh Roma tomatoes (preferably from my own balcony) which you boil down.

Those sound great.
This stuff is pretty damn good for cooking, though I'm not sure it's as low as it claims:
-
@error I am also sad that squash and pumpkin are so carby, too.
See...these things...I'm the only one if the family that eats them.
-
@Karla said in I hate Cilantro thread because why not?:

There is a Greek restaurant in town that has the most fucking amazing fried cauliflower. I swear it tastes like French fries.
-
@asdf Yeah, I am pretty lazy about cooking, and I actually like some of the jarred sauces. But I have made sauce once--at the time I was trying to make it low-sodium...so it was bland.
-
@Karla said in I hate Cilantro thread because why not?:
Shredded cabbage.
I recently discovered that pointed cabbage tastes a lot better than regular cabbage. If you can find it in a local supermarket, you should definitely try it sometime.

While this thread was supposed to be silly.
I'm glad I posted it because I've learned a few things about the spices. Which can only help when I attempt to cook.

Ew. No thanks. Seems to me it'd just be a blob of coconut oil floating at the top.

Yeah, just putting it in my mouth was nasty. (That's what she said.)

@Karla should'a taken advantage of the fact that it's stable at higher temperatures, and fried something tasty in it instead :P

here in America, neither the canned black olives nor the plain green ones are any good at all. The black ones are just kind of alright. But you can get garlic stuffed spanish olives, or wonderful greek kalamata olives!
I get the feeling sometimes I was born in the wrong place, since my favorite things are nice bread, good olives, good cheeses, garlic and onion.

I might be able to tolerate being a vegetarian for a while, but I couldn't do vegan. I wouldn't make it a day without .

What is the dividing line between white/hispanic and black/hispanic?
Look at both parents. If one is white and the other is Hispanic, the kids are white/Hispanic. If one is black and the other is Hispanic, you get black/Hispanic.
HTH HAND.

No, because Ethnicity is separate from Race. You are one or more races and Hispanic or not.
My MIL is fully Puerto Rican but would chose a race (likely of white) and that she is Hispanic.
My FIL is white so my husband would also be white/Hispanic.I'm white, and my daughter is white Hispanic.
My big kids' mother is dark, so she would be black/Hispanic.
My big kids' grandparents:
paternal - white and white/Hispanic (bothMIL fully Hispanic)
maternal - white/Hispanic and black/Hispanic (both fully Hispanic)They are 3/4 Hispanic. (Hispanic means a mixture of the white colonialists, African slaves, and Indian--which means for the most part every Hispanic is white/black/Indian in various percentages).
Two of the big kids look clearly Hispanic as they have darker skin and kinkier hair.
Two of the could pass for white but if you are familiar with Hispanic traits you would recognize that they are Hispanic. My daughter is 3/4 white and 1/4 Hispanic. Most people will assume she is white. She has yellower undertones that many Hispanics have while I have red/rose undertones. She will probably tan better than me (she won't find out for a number of years if I have anything to do with it).
