WTF of TheDailyWTF

  • So, morbiuswilters, are you really going to be born in two years?

  • Yesterday I signed out then signed back in.  After I entered my name and password I was taken to a screen that said "You have successfully signed out" -- but I was actually signed in.

  •  Not to mention he was being tracked at least 5 days before he became a member....

That is an illusory WTF. Look closer.

  • This is one of the actual WTFs of Community Server.  Everyone likes to complain about the editor, but the real problems are things like the birthday not being validated properly.

Also, I should point out that I am now #1 in post rank.  I know MPS and a few others have more actual total posts, but the post rank probably takes quality into account which is why I have superceded everyone else.

Actually, I think it uses an algorithm that heavily favors pompous statements and grandiose self-delusions.

    Why, thank you pstorer!

That's so cute. It is another morbius fan.

To quote Clerks 2: oh, you gonna be rolling in the pussy man.

Well, I already am, but I guess more wouldn't hurt.  I better get the water turned back on in my apartment, though... I don't want to be sticky all the time..

What are you talking about? It clearly limits you to a four digit year and if you enter a five or more digit year it helpfully assume that your birthday is today. Some lesser programs might return an error message or not display the birthday field, but that completely leaves out newborns who obviously can't type yet so they'll mash the keys and input an invalid date. The system is smart enough to recognize that and set the appropriate date.

Usable by newborns. Now *that's* UI progress.

If you're rolling in it, it sounds like you're doing it wrong.

I thought this was already Apple's mantra?

Yeah, but Apple has a very loose definition of "usable".

When they were barely toddlers, my kids used to put everything in their mouths, including my mouse, and more than once, inadvertently did something useful (on a Windows box, no less).

MS: You can do wonderful stuff with our software, if only by accident!

    "Everything," you say...
