gyroscope
It's just a fancy spinning top! Spinning tops can't do that, don't be ridiculous!
And in any case just look at that "space rocket" sitting there on the barge. Is it spinning? Is it fuck.

@flabdablet said in The Official Funny Stuff Thread™:
Is it spinning?
I don't know. Does it have a doctorate of spin? Does it secretly pretend to be Malcolm Tucker?

@dkf My favorite Scots swear from The Thick Of It was actually one of Jamie's, not Malcolm's: "it sucks cock so deep, the bell-end's wearing your appendix for a little hat."

@Onyx said in The Official Funny Stuff Thread™:
@Jaloopa Ditto, never really watched regularly at all, but I enjoyed the
cheesepink ranger when I did
-
@boomzilla hey! Yellow ranger got equal time!
Then, years later, I found out the yellow ranger is a dude in original Super Sentai footage...
-
@blakeyrat TURNS OUT I WAS WRONG there's no gyroscope:
There's some RCS, those aerodynamic fins seen in the video, and of course the gimbal on the rocket.
-
There's some RCS
WHAT IS RCS?? WHY DO YOU USE ACRONYMS WITHOUT DEFINING THEM FIRST??
That was a rhetorical question. Even though I'm not sure whether you meant Roll Control System, Reaction Control System, or both, or something else entirely, I don''t quite care.
As someone who played Kerbal Space Program, I can say that the videomaker knows nothing about space or spaceships. – ardaozkal, 17 hours ago

It's more fun if you read it in Malcolm's voice though ;-)

Can be commanded to fall in a specific direction.
Hmm, I wonder if those come in a smaller size, say with the edge about a centimetre in length and opaque sides with some markings etched on them. I might have a use for such device then.

Okay, some explanations for all the people not speaking German: We currently have three major parties in Germany - the SPD (left-middle), the CDU (middle-conservative) and the Greens (leftish).
Now, the Greens have won the majority in one state, with the CDU being the minor partner. The SPD is the opposition.
Also, we have quite a lot of non-gender-neutral terms - "Bürger" is the male version of citizen, "Bürgerin" is the female one. Thus sometimes a combination is used, for example: "Bürger*in"
Which resulted in this tweet:
First tweet (by the Greens):
In order to establish a policy of lending an ear we are letting the (male and female) citizens participate fully in governing this state.
Reply by the CDU
Lay off this gender-stuff when talking for the state!
Third tweet needs no translation.

Time to move the severs guys, found a great location:

@Rhywden
An inserted * looks nicer than GermanGenderNeutralCamelCase.Plus, mid-word I looks a lot like l in many fonts.

@Onyx
Only 8.499 km! According to Google I'm there in a mere 114 hr.

@aliceif Thank God it's not just me. I thought I was going craz
yier than I was.
No links are clickable anymore after the last forum upgraded notification.
-
@Rhywden oh good grief. That picture worked fine yesterday, and the raw post still looks fine, but there's no picture in the rendered post now. It's not even in the DOM; the inspector just shows

where it should be. @ben_lubar!!!@aliceif said in The Official Funny Stuff Thread™:

Yes, it's a bug. @ben_lubar!!!
-
@anotherusername Yeah, just noticed that as well. It's also browser-independent.

All images seem to be gone.

Huh. It was one-boxed when I first saw it. It was also, AFAICT, a repost of the video @Zecc posted as a reply to Blakey
postedearlier.

A little viewing of the source later…

Sorry, my bad. @Zecc posted it as a reply to you.

@aliceif Uhm, ahkchully, that would be PascalCase...

@coldandtired I think Editor and Sports Reporter have been swapped in that dialog. The AP reporter who wrote that piece clearly used the correct word (see the body text); the subeditor who wrote the headline screwed it up.

You killed the joke. You gained 0.5 pedantry points.

@JBert /me returns home in triumph with the joke's carcass slung over my shoulder

TL;DR: via a bug, the AI in Elite: Dangerous gains the ability to create superweapons, and goes Skynet.

@ben_lubar if the trolley is out-of-control, how can you control which building you slam into? If you can switch tracks, could you also purposefully derail? Why do all of the tracks slam into buildings, anyway? Why do any of the tracks slam into buildings? Who built these fucking tracks? And about this big reveal... who reveals the building that contains only one person, and how? Is it certain that they could only reveal a building that contained one person, or did they select at random, and it happened to be the building that contained only one person? And if information about the buildings can be revealed to the hurtling trolley, why can't information about the hurtling trolley be revealed to the people in the buildings, to warn them to get out?

@anotherusername Because goats, that's why.
