Pasting Images

This is inconsistent for me (chrome 50, 64-bit linux). I can take a screenshot using KSnapshot, copy it to the clipboard and paste it into the composer, but I can't copy an image from within the browser and paste it.
It's been some years since I fooled around with clipboard bullshit, so I have no clue why one works and the other doesn't. Is this a Linux specific problem or what?
Is it the nodebb composer? Our imagemagick plugin? Phase of the moon?
-
@boomzilla It's Chrome. It's been doing it since 49, maybe 48. I posted about it a few weeks ago.
-
@FrostCat Hmm....well, I can copy an image from chrome and paste it into LibreOffice Writer just fine.
And then copy it from LibreOffice Writer into chrome. But not from chrome to chrome. Shit.
-
It is not specific to linux - I find I usually have to past and cut from MS Paint first - whatever clipboard format MS Paint uses seems to be the most well-supported. This applies with everything - imgur, gitter, gitter desktop client, github, etc. - so maybe it has to do with how Chrome exposes the clipboard to JS

No, it's not, it happens on Windows, too, which is why I assume it's a Chrome problem. In my case, I'll either use Edge or Snipping Tool to copy the image, and then I can paste it.

Edit: applied locally

Works here! Sweet.

Excellent. Well, that it works, that is.

Nice!

Error de-MagicEye-ing picture: Picture appears uniform or is a flat plane.

@Tsaukpaetra You can de-magic-eye it to raised vertical lines.

Huh. I'll have to save it for Unit Tests then, apparently perfectly vertical plane shifts are not detectable in the current decoder...
-
@aliceif Ugh, now you have me trying... my eyes!

@boomzilla pasting images doesn't work at all in Firefox, from what I've seen.
Discourse actually did it right. Imgur does too.
I mean, it's not hugely troublesome to paste it in Paint, save it as Untitled.png, and drag-and-drop that into the composer. But replacing all that with Ctrl-V would be really slick.
-
Nope. Nothing seems to work in FF for me, either.
-
@boomzilla Same here on Windows 10.
-
Didn't FF get updated recently?
Edit: What am I thinking? Of course it did! There's a new one every six seconds!
-
@ben_lubar Did we update on master and get rid of this open pull request? I don't seem to be able to paste from / to chrome any more.
-
@boomzilla I thought it was already merged until I got an email this morning saying it had been merged. Should be fixed now.
-
Yep.

FWIW, it looks like the problem with pasting images in Firefox is some sort of Javascript error:

Also, pressing paste cases an error in the upload module. But that's a whole other level of stupid.
/me presses ctrl-v, gets this:
