and while I don't think "social justice" as a concept should be reduce to ridicule and nothing more, that horse is so far out of the barn he can't even see the barn anymore.
The problem with "social justice" is that it's never been more than a grab bag of whatever is currently in fashion in left wing circles.

this forum is incredibly hostile toward any hint of liberalism, anti-racism, or LGBT rights, thanks in no small part to Bra Fox's belligerent crusading
It was incredibly hostile to all of those things well before @Fox got here.
Well, one out of 3 ain't bad. And no, I'm not going to apologize for being anti-liberalism. If someone thinks I'm anti-anti-racist or anti-LGBT rights, then that's on their own reading comprehension.

@boomzilla
And what a grab bag it is! Containing gems like "we should be nice to gays because they are also humans" and "if people want to change their gender we should let them" but also 'we shouldn't say "homophobia" because it's mean to people with phobias'.*shrug* It is what it is.

If that's all you're talking about then I'm all for it. But you're missing a ton of stuff and not really capturing the spirit, either. Here, I'll re-post this video so @flabdablet can catch up on his scoffing for the week:

None of them actually has a sting worth a pinch of shit
Well, they control the debate, so one could argue that they've already won.

Typical right-winger, talking about human rights issues like they're fancy hats.
-
@asdf said in Recruiting Giants:

That's the thing, though. They behave as if they control the debate, by continually attempting to set the agenda: every other day there's some culture warrior cross-posting some kind of ill-researched crap from the Daily Fail and banging on about the latest SJW outrage.
But it takes two to have a debate. Don't give them the satisfaction. Just insult them. It's far more entertaining.

"Try this at your latest party" says the troll in the tie.
Yeah, nah. I can't work up much enthusiasm for taking advice from somebody who looks that much like Milton.

I mean, deciding that 'homophobia' is mean to people with real phobias is dumb as hell. Especially because people with real phobias who were asked about it said 'wtf no?'
Lots of social justice causes are really important, like mass incarceration, the war on drugs, racism, sexism, etc etc. Some are just dumb. It is what it is.
It's a bit like Catholicism in that way. 2 parts 'thou shalt not kill' 1 part 'beavers are fish'.

And I'd still argue that the social justice take on those things is typically ludicrous, no matter how loud @flabdablet's sneering gets.

@bb36e Did you notice the line under "state of the market" that says "spoiled kids who know their value"
So knowing that your work is valuable and attempting to set the terms of your work and the price of your labor is "spoiled"?
REALLY!?!?!?
So, if I walked into McDonalds and demanded a hamburger for free because I bought a bunch of other hamburgers before, and then staged a boycott if they didn't comply.... that would morally be ok?

I have no idea why it looks this way but it makes my eyes bleed...
Congratulations! You've found a (moderate) font renderer bug. What browser and OS were you using?
-
@dkf Chrome, Antergos Linux. Probably because of Antergos....

Same question.
I believe he's being pendantic about the origin of the terms "liberal" and "conservative". Or maybe " Republican" and "Democrat". I'm not sure...
-
@sloosecannon Same here on Debian. But it only happens with one particular size; if you zoom in or out 10% everything is displayed normally. So maybe it's just the combination of font + dpi setting.
-
@Grunnen ah so it's not just "Arch Broke That™".
Good to know.
