Blogs and Forums
-
I'm something of a foru rat, and I track quite a few blogs, including tdwtf, among others. I'm new to the forum here obviously, and I hope it isn't too terribly rude is that my first question is about the competition to this site. For all of the blogs and forums I keep up with, those having to do with software development are pretty few. I was wondering what other blogs and what other forums you guys thought were worthwhile. I've had kind of a hard time finding good ones, myself.

None. TDWTF is what I keep up. I'm following ZDNet on Twitter with it set to notify me by IM, but most of the articles don't sound interesting, so I just close the IM. I visit some of them, though.
For the most part, though, I keep the Side Bar and General forums open in a tab and refresh both every few minutes. This forum may not be "informative" most of the time, but it definitely gives me at least one laugh a day.

Totally agreed that it's worth a good laugh. I'm just wondering if there's actually a robust forum where developers discuss technologies and I've just missed it all this time.

Well.. DevShed is pretty popular. CodeProject has a so-so forum. I pretty much gave up on all of them. This one keeps me entertained enough during my goofing-off periods.
-
DevShed is explicitly for web development? Meh.

No. Why not peruse the category list ...

I'm subsribed to Joel on Software, although I think you have to take what he says with a grain of salt.

Less a forum, more a blog is IBM's developerWorks: http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/
For Perl users, I highly recommend PerlMonks: http://www.perlmonks.org
For web designers and web application developers, SitePoint is really good: http://www.sitepoint.com

For python and *nix I really like Command Line Warriors. Slashdot is occasionally good, however you'll have more luck snapping a picture of a blue moon. Also Coding Horror tends to link to a number of other blogs, most of the tech blogs, I would follow those links if you're looking at reading more blogs.

I find that sometimes a shot of tequila helps, too.

Not exactly software development, but I enjoy The Shark Tank at
