📹 Blakeyrat's Videos Thread (Robots in the News et al.)

SO ANYWAY! Watch my videos that won't one-box!
-
No. Next silly point?
-
Oh, that must have been this asshole, then.
-
-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wquq4DTbC9E but it doesn't onebox with or without an https.
Ah: https://meta.discourse.org/t/what-is-a-onebox/4546/4 "only whitelisted sites will onebox.'

And yet it worked on Wednesday. This is Yet Another Regression. Do we have a clever acronym for that yet?

Discoursistency is the prevailing term.

On September the 19th, we will.
Also, I don't know abou the regression. I just googled "discourse onebox" because I didn't know if you had to do something particular to make 'em, and the first related hit.

Ok, ok. Let's get this straight. Are you guys saying the best way to piss Blakey off is to download his videos without asking? Because that's actionable information.
-
You make it sound like a challenge to get on your shitlist.
It is, actually. I made it once after an extended flamewar about Ruby, when I mentioned that I actually didn't like Ruby but that there were better reasons for disliking it.
-
Ok, ok. Let's get this straight. Are you guys saying the best way to piss Blakey off is to download his videos without asking? Because that's actionable information.
Hard to say. But it worked once. Sort of. I mean...you have to make him think he never gave you permission.
-
I thought the best way to piss him off was to hijack a topic he started.
-
TMTOWTDI <obscure acronyms often work>

Huh? Edit: NVM, figured it out.

Actually an older video moved from my personal account to the RITN account. No clue why I made this, audio's pretty awful.
-
So... you didn't like the game? Not sure if I detected the sarcasm correctly... :-)
-
It's not even that I hated it, but that every fucking tower defense game is the fucking exact same and there's 450,000 of them and they KEEP MAKING NEW ONES EVERY DAY.
There's a Fieldrunners 2. HOW!?
-
They are doing that for every variation of every genre you can think of. I currently have very specific taste (mostly metroidvanias and graphical actiony roguelikes) and I can barely keep track anymore. This got to implode at some point.
-
Oh yeah the indie scene is heading towards a huge collapse, if it's not in the middle of one already and we're just not noticing because there's no huge bin outside of Toys R Us with a "$0.10 just take as many as you want" sign.
Then again, it's kind of like the 1980s black-and-white comics crash. Just a ton of kids spending their college savings on making games. If that's the case, at least it's mostly harmless...
-
mostly harmless
I see what you did there. (Didn't you bash @Arantor for making references / quotes of python and Adams once? Can't be bothered to look it up!)
On a related note:
Damn, now I watched a video (Do I need permission for this now) and can therefore associate a voice to your rants. Now the magic is ruined.
Filed Under: Why are you still doing YT-Style Let's Plays when EVERYBODY and their mom jumped onto streaming?

I see what you did there.
I didn't do anything there.
(Didn't you bash @Arantor for making references / quotes of python and Adams once? Can't be bothered to look it up!)
I wasn't quoting anything.
Filed Under: Why are you still doing YT-Style Let's Plays when EVERYBODY and their mom jumped onto streaming?
Because we record at like midnight Pacific time, and there's nobody around at that time to watch the streams. I actually left in a bit of that conversation with the Fan Fic Friday video I posted yesterday, which was streamed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ARcUm_9AIfo
When we do games like Marlow Briggs, we actually have a public stream going so Rantis can see my screen. I just don't advertise it anywhere, and we moved away from Twitch (because of Twitch's fucking awful latency lately), so nobody joins them.
-
I didn't do anything there.
Sounded like a Hitchhikers-quote to me, though. Then again it's two words so, meh!
Midnight for you is pretty much daytime for us europeans . I know we might not be your target audience but we are ONE audience.
And even though you edited that part out:
I still believe that every american out there has an AMAZING upstream and can stream 1080p without problems. Thats just the way the americans I talked to made it seem. (And programs like OBS and XSplit can easily record and stream at the same time. Then again, it doesn't really matter. You do what you want to do and thats fine. Just thought I'd point it out as an opportunity
And now you edited new stuff in so, let's reply to that:
Yeah, twitch has the amazing 30 seconds / minutes delay. What do you stream on nowadays? Hitbox? UStream (are they even still alive), Selfhosted streaming-software?
-
(And programs like OBS and XSplit can easily record and stream at the same time.
But they record the stream-quality BPS, which makes the recording ASSSS. I would never upload one of those if the video were actually important. Even the video compression my Xbox capture device thing creates is far too compressed for my liking-- you can really tell the difference between PC games like Marlow Briggs recorded using FRAPS and Xbox One games like Halo: Spartan Assault done with the Hauppauge software.
What do you stream on nowadays? Hitbox?
Yeah, unless you have a better suggestion. I'm not that impressed by Hitbox, but it's a 5-second latency instead of 45 seconds, so.
Filed Under: Tried to recruite you for Darksiders-Speedrunning in this post but couldn't find a way to bring it in naturally...sigh
I've never played that before, but if you wanna do a video or something let me know. You should be able to find my Steam or Skype without too much trouble.

What do you do to record audio? My son is interested in doing video. I have a GeForce card that can automatically record that, but I don't know how to do the sound.
-
What audio are you referring to? The game audio or the commentary?
Anything that can record game video can almost certainly attach the computer's default audio out stream to it as well. I don't know what GeForce card/app you're referring to, but I'd be shocked if it doesn't.
For audio, I usually use SoundForge which I got when I bought Sony Vegas. I then usually slip it into Audacity to run noise removal and dynamic compression. (Those don't ship with SoundForge, stupidly, they're sold separately as plug-ins.) The hardware is a plain ol' FREQ 5 headset from MadCatz. No pop filter on the headset, so I have to be careful with where I aim the mic.
-

Both.Anything that can record game video can almost certainly attach the computer's default audio out stream to it as well. I don't know what GeForce card/app you're referring to, but I'd be shocked if it doesn't.
GeForce Experience. On higher-end 5- (or maybe 6-) series and later cards it can record hd video. Maybe it can do audio too; I haven't checked.
-
Ok I have a "thing" in GeForce Experience called "ShadowPlay (BETA)". Not sure what the hell it does or how it works. I turned it on and it reset the video card and resized all my windows. I tried using the keyboard shortcuts it shows in the window, Alt-F9 and Alt-F10 but neither did anything. No files were ever saved to My Videos. Also it crashed World of Tanks.
That all said, it claims to record game audio.
So. Good luck I guess?
BTW if you want some free game/screen recording software that actually works, Raptr includes recording, as do the OBS and XSplit streaming utilities. I use FRAPS, because that way I can control my compression quality.
-
According to your PC-specs you have a 560TI (the same one I have, I think) and that one doesn't support ShadowPlay.
Other than that I heard some good things about it. Though mainly that it records video with less performance-strains. Probably audio, too. Otherwise recording makes less sense.
Filed Under: Last Post for tonight. Good night everyone | I probably won't post until tuesday when @PJH is back :D
-
ShadowPlay's what I'm talking about. I haven't used it yet, though. I tried the freeware version of FRAPS, but I'm not sure if it recorded audio or not. I've heard of OBS but haven't tried it.
The little bit of testing I did, I used handbrake to re-encode and compress the video after recording.
-

I upgraded, remember? I posted about the upgrade in the same thread as where I posted the PC specs.
-
ShadowPlay's what I'm talking about.
Ok well my admittedly brief experience is:
-
It doesn't work,
-
In the process of not working, it actually crashes the game you were attempting to record.
-
-
Heh. Well like I said i'm more concerned at the moment with audio.
Anyway I have raptr on my son's computer--I assume it won't work with my geforce--but it's only got a 5670.
-
Heh. Well like I said i'm more concerned at the moment with audio.
Well call me crazy but I think you might be able to get further by just opening up Raptr and whatever and hitting "record", then listening to the resulting video, than you would by just asking random people on the Internet.
-
just asking random people on the Internet.
Funny, I thought I was asking someone who knew what he was doing. Sorry, won't make the same mistake again.
-
I guess I don't know what answer you need other than, "anything that can record game video can also record game audio." Even GeForce Experience claims to record the game audio.
-
I assumed he was asking in case there are any gotchas or nuggets of worldly wisdom you could pass along, but I guess not.
-
I guess how about
If you're doing voice chat while you record, make sure the voice chat comes out a different audio device than the game's audio. Because tools that record games usually record only the default audio out device, and you probably don't want the voice chat audio inextricably intertwined with the game audio.
There. Advice. I guess.
-
That's good advice, thank you .
-
It's not just your videos. Nothing on youtube is oneboxing right now. @PJH, @sam, shit's broken again!
Twitter posts still work though, so it's only Youtube.
-
Agreed.
So I managed to boot my son off my computer so I could actually try Geforce Experience, and once I got it to work--at first it wasn't recording, so I had to stop and restart the service it uses (!), and then I had to boost the gain on my headset mic, because my voice wasn't showing up--it actually seems to work fairly well.
I could never get Raptr to work properly, although it may have been because I wasn't trying to record fullscreen (one of my false starts with Geforce Experience was trying to record windowed gameplay without checking the proper option.)
-
(one of my false starts with Geforce Experience was trying to record windowed gameplay without checking the proper option.)
Ok just FYI, there shouldn't be any need to check a "proper option". OBS and XSplit do fine whether or not the game is in a window.
If it works, it works. Kudos I guess.
-
Ok just FYI, there shouldn't be any need to check a "proper option".
Without this checkbox checked, it seems to only record fullscreen games, not windowed ones. Haven't tried OBS yet.
Thanks for the extremely grudging, tiny bits of help, though.
-
I'm not trying to be unhelpful, I just genuinely didn't know what information you wanted. I can't give you tips on a program I've never used.
-
No video tomorrow. I found out today during video editing that my spinner in my computer is kaput. (Naturally I find that out days after installing a new video card, which would have been the perfect chance to swap it out...)
Also, one of my two backup USB drives is also kaput. I have some kind of magnetic field extending out from my body that destroys hard drives, I think.
In any case, I lost next week's episode. And you know what? Even for $15/month Amazon Glacier is starting to look like the best backup option, fuck spinning storage up the ass.
EDIT: Fanfic Friday is scheduled 5 weeks in advance, so they'll be a video on friday for the next month no matter what else happens.
-
I bet it was the hate shockwaves from yelling at Jeff Atwood. The poor thing couldn't handle it. I mean HDD. Not Atwood.
-
Even for $15/month Amazon Glacier is starting to look like the best backup option, fuck spinning storage up the ass.
Then you might be happy to know Crashplan and Backblaze offer unlimited backup storage for $5 per month.
-
You don't know me very well.
-
No, because all you show us is 0.000005% or thereabouts, so of course we don't know you very well.
