Did you know it's illegal to have more than 2 decks of cards in a room?
-
They arrested the lot of them, now all bailed in the princely sum of 100 quid each, even though no money was changing hands – for having recovered from their embarrassment at not ‘busting’ an Al Qaeda cell, they consulted their rule books and discovered that it is against the law in Thailand to have more than 120 playing cards present in one room….
While they found no financial evidence of gambling, police charged the group with possessing more than 120 playing cards that were not produced by the Excise Department, in violation of Section 8 of the Playing Cards Act of 1943.

...wut? I cannot even into.
-
All the insane things that are legal in Thailand, but they're strict about the playing cards.
...wut? I cannot even into.
Read carefully. It doesn't say having more than 120 cards is illegal; it says having more than 120 cards not approved by the Excise Department is illegal. (A.k.a. if you wanna run a card game, you gotta get the Government stamp first.)
-

Which adds some irony to the story because
the raid was sparked by a member of the public complaining to the government’s anti-corruption centre.
-
?
How does that add irony?
One of us is confused.

The 120 cards thing is a bit of a red-herring; they were busted for gambling, which is illegal in Thailand, state-owned or not.
Of course, as blakey says, when you consider what is legal. Or even what is illegal, but they turn a blind eye to...
-
they were busted for gambling
No, they weren't.
While they found no financial evidence of gambling,...
-
And before the pedants point it out ...
Damn, they're onto WTDWTF.

No, they were busted by a law intended to prevent gambling. But the police found no evidence of gambling.
That's more of a WTF than the 120 cards thing, honestly.

Seems to me like discrimination against sleight-of-hand magicians.
