These are serious quotes, in a serious article.
Unintentionally humorous.
A representative selection:
-
Margaret Thatcher wasn't exactly a shining beacon of leadership either.
Oh no! That means we have to rely on the fact there's no scientific evidence whatsoever in support of ESP to protect us!
-
It's not about ESP, it's about technology.
Like any machine, the state of a brain can be read or altered if you have the right rools.
Those tools are still many decades away, but some day brain hacking is going to be a legitimate concern.
Or, well, drugging you. That can happen today.
-
Internet of Women existed since at least 1989, when first GIFs with ladies of differing nakedness degree started roaming Usenet.
-
I thought that was what the Internet was invented for. Everything else is just a bonus.
-
Or, well, drugging you. That can happen today.
And there's already laws against that.

Margaret Thatcher wasn't exactly a shining beacon of leadership either.
She was cool. If you want a disaster, I'd have gone with Indira Gandhi.
-
She was cool.
The UK coal mining industry would beg to differ. Or they would, if there was still a UK coal mining industry worth mentioning.
-
I personally think this one is the best for so many reasons:
You can always go faster than you think, but maybe you should go slower than you think because doing stupid shit is usually a bad idea.

Sure Blakey, sure

I personally think this one is the best for so many reasons:
Because you can put underneath it?
-
Good fucking god, these make me want to die.
Except for the "Minister of the Future" one - while it's a silly name, I think having someone in charge of setting the direction for innovation and future policy additions/changes is a good idea that I'd like to see come to fruition. If they were more than just a figurehead we could get a lot of scientific advancement with the help of the government.
-
She could have made it a lot more profound if she'd changed a few words around.
-

The coal mining industry started decline long before Thatcher.
-
True, but she didn't exactly help matters.

What world do you live in where this is somehow a necessity? What is an "Internet of Women" and how is it better than the Internet of Everything that we have now?
Oh, cool, sexism! Wait, it's against men? Not sexism then!
@PJH said:Yeah, if only the name wasn't tainted by the fact that 99% of people that self-identify as such are complete and total morons.
-
Problem: it'd be an appointed position. They wouldn't be appointing science fiction authors, they'd be appointing people whose only vision of the future is one where their party wins forever.
-
Yeah, but at least in an ideal situation it sounds nice.

"Hahaha, look at me! I don't understand anything!"
"I wrote some shitty teen novel once, that means my opinions on economics and stuff are totally relevant!"

Oh great. More gamergate bullshit. I love it.
Isn't Davros the bad guy from Doctor Who? Whatever. Muting.
-
gamergate
You throw this word around in discussions that have nothing to do with games. Please go masturbate onto your own face in the hopes that you use up all of your sperm and prevent yourself from successfully breeding.

Yeah, I think that's because it's based on reality, where things aren't always equal. Surprise!

Seksmisja the movie tells a lot about it.
-
Because the guy has to deal with the rough reality on a daily basis, that's why.
-
gamergate
Because ethics in gaming journalism is a bad thing?

I mean, I like lesbian porn as much as the next guy, but not exclusively. That's just excessive and monotonous.
-

Wait, what? Which one? I probably haven't been following it as closely as you so it's not so obvious to me.

Well, they do look like an old school commie front organization:
-
I think having someone in charge of setting the direction for innovation and future policy additions/changes is a good idea that I'd like to see come to fruition.
I bet that'll work out just like it did when the EU planned on standardizing on USB mini-B for cell phones, right before micro-B came out. The way government[1] works, Euros would be stuck on mini-B for 5 years. Now multiply that by 10,000.
For an American example, the Federal government apparently keeps some employee information in a cave in Virginia. Because it's all done on paper, when you retire it can take months to get your first retirement check: http://www.washingtonpost.com/sf/national/2014/03/22/sinkhole-of-bureaucracy/
[1] note the lack of adjective, denoting the fact that I'm not singling out any Euro country or the EU government as a whole.
-
Yeah, but at least in an ideal situation it sounds nice.
Any time you contemplate something where the phrase "if only we had the right people in charge", you should run away from doing whatever it is. There's no "the right people". There's only people.
That's why Milton Friedman said "The way you solve things is by making it politically profitable for the wrong people to do the right thing."
-
Because ethics in gaming journalism is a bad thing?
Blakey doesn't believe that's the problem. Anita Sarkeesian[1] couldn't possibly be wrong about the bullshit she spouts, and it's perfectly acceptable for Zoe Quinn to fuck her way to good "game" reviews, etc., etc, and anyone that says otherwise is literally a Nazi.
[1] I CBA to look up to see if I got the name right.
-
Wait, what? Which one? I probably haven't been following it as closely as you so it's not so obvious to me.
He muted, so we'll never know.
He just wanted to make sure we know he's not interested in adding anything to the discussion.

You forgot to attach a picture of a mouse trap.

Woo! Neither my country's finance minister nor president made the list! And I'm pretty sure they said some dumb things with microphones near by.
-
He muted, so we'll never know.
Now I'll never get to hear his nonsensical ramblings on this topic!

Well, she basically said “screw mining, let's do something else” and it took long, but it eventually worked for the economy as a whole. There might have been an easier way, but continuing with the previous policy wasn't one.

I've always wondered - do heterosexual women watch male gay porn?

I've always wondered - do heterosexual women watch male gay porn?
According to a non-representative study conducted by drunk me, some do, but it's not as popular as lesbian porn is among males. Also, I know one lesbian who watches male gay porn, because according to her "it's more realistic than female gay porn".
Too much information?

This is in such deliciously stark contrast to the other quotes. I love it.
I don't. I don't think it would work, because I don't think the extremist preachers give a damn whether their wild fantasies have a chance to win.
In fact one analyst here quite convincingly argues that ISIS wants to lose, and, that they want to lose to “crusaders”, because that would fulfil some prophecy about end of the world.

Oh, 13th/Hidden-Imamism, I bet!
But isn't that Shi'ite and ISIS is Sunni, or the other way 'round?
-
No, it should be reference to description of Armageddon in hadith. Here is a wikipedia note with some explanation in English.

Important part:
fictional media focusing on romantic or sexual relationships between male characters, typically aimed at a female audience and usually created by female authors

Also I meant people with no power, like radfems.
