Meta.d is sad
-
- So, registered for meta.d
- got a PM from "Jeff"
- PM showed 4 icons
- meta.d has 3
- just got banned from my own bug report
- Total time: 10 minutes.
literally LOL'd when I got blocked from my own bug report.
-
They hang out in the bikeshed, any updated screenshots would be out of date quickly.
Their own webpage has screenshots and videos which aren't how it looks now too.Jeff don't care while chumps keep giving him money.
-
PM showed 4 icons
meta.d has 3
-
AFAICT; already banned
-
Did they delete your account? What was the username?
-
-
I mean, what kind of icons? The buttons under the post or something?
-
I mean, what kind of icons? The buttons under the post or something?
Nope; Navbar.
The chat bubble was in the image they sent me. It doesn't exist on meta.d.
-
Yes, they bikeshed crap like that all the time and then don't bother to be thorough. Now that we aren't there to pick up on this stuff, it will take longer to iron that sort of thing out.
But hey, Jeff will be less stressed, so there's that.

Entertainingly(?) both of my [legit] bugs no longer "exist"; neither of them was "ur ownr suxorz".
-
A true Jeffing.
-
Standard fail.d moderation policy. Nuke it from orbit and no regrets. YOLO!
-
Definitely deleted. Tried to reset password, and I don't exist.
Should I try and register to tell them that they're leaking user email info?
-
This is so fucking sad. "Unprofessional" doesn't even scratch the surface. And even just lurking on meta.d is seriously frustrating. I mean just look at this. "Seems correct to me".
-
Might it be that the chat bubble shows up only if there are new notifications? Can someone make fake account on meta.d and PM @sdertvgsedrtfvcswe?The icon is missing because it's integrated in avatar menu.BTW, topics in "ux" category are hilarious:

"So, it just says I already have more than required (which is 5) topics, correct?"
Required for what?
Obvious answer: For the message to no longer appear. ??

This post is deleted!

"Candlejack"?
CandleJack is a character from the TV show "Freakazoid". Supposedly, once you say his name, he kidnaps you.
That seems over the top, even for Jeff.
-
Also:
Originating from the cartoon Freakazoid , the Candlejack meme was sparked on the 4-chan /co/ (the cartoon board) were it gained popularity. Mostly seen in /b/, this meme involves the poster to write Candlejack's name somewhere in the post and be cut off mid sentence, implying that Candlejack captured him.
-
Ah. Guess I wooshed on that one. Carry on.
-
And I want the toolbar suppressed for now, ala GMail, since most people never use it.
So he essentially wants to present two blank boxes to the user and let them figure Markdown out?
-
Well, other people's words r a to posting.
-
Yup.
In the same post he states that his own developers agreeing with the OP doesn't count because they're developers and they have have different expectations from users.
Then he says that he wants the toolbar gone.
-
I ... ... ... ... :que:?
-
Also, the original posts complaining have 5 likes, his post has 0. Aren't likes the official measure of how many people agree over there?
-
I replied to that. I got a yellow toaster suggesting I use an icon.
Now we know where that asshole likes color--not where it's helpful to people, but where it nags them. Note that Sam agrees the bar is faded, possibly too much!
-
Aren't likes the official measure of how many people agree over there?
When it suits Jeff, sure.
-
Note that Sam agrees the bar is faded, possibly too much!
Yeah but he's a developer. What do developers know about this stuff?! </s>

As do the "screenshots" of their meta.d instance on their own FAQ.
Obviously, already banned and the bug report gone, but another point they lag on while busy bikeshedding. I think I pointed out their site screenshots on the FAQ looking very out of date back when WTDWTF was new as well.
Should I also point out the bit of ego where each screenshot from a logged in instance is from Atwood's account? Especially the one showcasing his user card?
-
So he essentially wants to present two blank boxes to the user and let them figure Markdown out?
This is just retarded. Okay, we're devs, we can kinda figure out markup languages. But for like 99% of people on the Internet it's a totally foreign concept.
And once again, I DON'T WANT TO READ A MANUAL TO USE YOUR FORUM. And no, Markdown isn't any more "intuitive" than any other markup unless you spent the best years of your life on IRC channels.
-
Also, the original posts complaining have 5 likes, his post has 0. Aren't likes the official measure of how many people agree over there?
You have to apply the weighting factor first:
Normal (not-jeff) user like = 1
jeff-post like = (n + 1) * a bazillion.Hence "5 likes" (5) < "0 likes" (a bazillion)

Do you guys have some neat stats on this? And somehow know that it isn't caused by the buttons looking disabled, thus discouraging use?
-
Probably get me banned. Also, that's not my avatar, over there, so oneboxing bug...
-
It's a quote, not a Onebox.
-
-
-
Nah, not that serious.

Do you guys have some neat stats on this? And somehow know that it isn't caused by the buttons looking disabled, thus discouraging use?I liked this one.
-
I can't delete my post. I get a 400.
-
So this was just posted:
Why's that the headline feature? Nobody uses it, right?
-
Jeffsistency.
-
... aaand the composer bar topic is gone.
-
The toolbar one now requires a login. On the github highlight:
At least we don't have to feel alone.
-
Aren't likes the official measure of how many people agree over there?
One man, one vote. Jeff's the man, he's got the vote.
-
Why's that the headline feature? Nobody uses it, right?
Sheeeeit...there's only one thing there that deserves a "Focus" bullet: "Smoother loading of stream..." That actually sounds like a useful thing. The larger progress bar might be useful, but they'll probably fuck it up.
-
Apparently it requires some higher trust level because I have an unbanned account and I can't see it.
For a moment I was scared I had been banned. I'm saving my one remaining post for something worthy.
(should we start the "mocking Jeff Atwood from afar" category?)
-
It could also just be deleted. Not only does Jeff Jeff posts that miff Jeff, Jeff Jeffs posts that are kind of old.
-
- make the only thing that was easy to extend a pain to extend
- move the same broken code around, it's bound to fix something
- improve loading by calculating the height of unloaded posts, something we claimed was impossible to do when people complained the scrollbar was broken
- shitfuck, some stupid toxic hellstew PHP programmers figured it out, quick, copy it!
TTFY
Filed under: still have no idea how they intend to implement #3 in a sane way
-
Plenty of bikeshedding in the rest of it.
Move right gutter in/out links below posts
Ability to overwrite any translation with arbitrary string
Abillity for groups to have a "group owner" than can add and remove people from the group
Refactor topic performance to support topics with 100k posts+ without serious performance impact
Improve email context options (find topic)
UI for pop up temporary notifications
HTML anchor support that works for deep linking to headings in a post
Fix topic splits having owner of person who split the topic
-
Oh look, 2 bugs we reported in there.
Useless stupid TDWTFers...
