Status: Doing some online shopping for my kids. The site claims to sort the items in order of popularity. Suspecting that the "popularity" is rather based on how much profit they make per item, I decided to make a simple test:
- View all products in category Entertainment
- Go to last page...
- Hmm. "Teach yourself Slovenian in 21 days. VHS tape."
Well I'll be damned; maybe they do sort by popularity after all.

Someone is currently arguing with me that a software's fault is somehow rooted in Windows.
Following scenario: Upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 which somehow set the locale partially to US-American which of course changes the date format from DDMMYYYY to MMDDYYYY.
He then started the software which complained that the system date was in the wrong format, specifically:
17-008-0015
Now, I'm arguing that said software is TRWTF because it obviously does stupid things to the DateTime it gets from Windows, chief among them not considering locale properly and secondly, storing stuff in a stupid format.

But isn't that against the unwritten forum rule that nobody is allowed to consent with @blakeyrat?

I overrode it by pointing to the more important saying: "If you're creating your own DateTime object you're doing it wrong." :)

It should be fine if it's uninformed.

It1 should be fine if it2's uninformed.
1 "it" being what? the grammatically required formal subject? the forum? Blakey? something else?

Status: Woke up this morning to two frantic phone calls.
First up was from a client who had all the important files for their main LOB application disappear last night. So, they were at a standstill.
Second was from someone who emailed me last night saying they could not log in to their office desktop from their house. I login to the server and find out the domain trust relationship had become FUBAR. I email him instructions on how to connect to a VM and tell him that I will have someone there at 10am and that he will need to work from another workstation.
Of course the file he needs to work on for an 11am presentation is saved to his desktop... He sends a frantic email this morning and then immediately calls. I explain to him that I emailed him about that last night. He insists that I did not. The email he sent this morning was a reply to the one I sent last night explaining everything.

I was confused for a second how an uninterruptable power supply could cause bent mounts, and then I stopped being stupid.
-
Hard drive of one of our testing machines was full.
Then I deleted the Trend Micro update logs and 25GB were freed.Wow.

FWIW, I probably would have had the same initial thought.

Status: I was gonna play one of those dumb adventure games on the bus this morning, but it turns out it's unplayable in Windows 10 for some reason.
At least it's not just me: http://steamcommunity.com/app/373870/discussions/0/530649887213177549/
EDIT: i went in to find compatiblity options, and it turns out it ships with a cheat program (?) and also a screensaver(!?!?)

Status: listening to some coworkers who are getting some certificate for doing some MongoDB web course. Oh well, at least they can't do any harm around here.

"Find the seven 1x1-pixel fuck-ups"

Sounds like a prime Blakeyrat "shitty game" video candidate.
-
You mean the game I already made a video of would be a good game to make a video of?
Brilliant.
-
So who poured beer in the server ?
-
-
i don't know, but it wasn't happy for a while before it keeled over:
maybe @sam or @pjh will shortly give us an update as to what happened?
-
it wasn't happy
ouch, all day?.
Do you keep stats for longer than that ? it'd be super interesting to see data over months/weeks.
-
Looks like sidekiq keeled over and then it took a while to get things back up.
Sidekiq is consuming too much memory (using: 597.84M) for 'what.thedailywtf.com', restarting
-
okay then..... now why did sidekiq pass out?
did someone give it
whiskeywhine again?
-
We seem to be having trouble again

Status: I was listening to some JSRF music while working, and noticed a suggestion on the sidebar, which I will now link in an attempt to simultaneously melt, explode, and implode @raceprouk's brain:
-
And it re-died!
-
I love you for posting this.

Unknown. I PM'd @PJH and @sam over on meta, but haven't heard from them. AFAIK, stuff restarted on its own. Several error messages like this:
PG::ConnectionBad (FATAL: remaining connection slots are reserved for non-replication superuser connections
I suspect someone with access is going to need to bounce the server to get us fully right again.
-
ouch, all day?.
not all day, no

Yes! yes we do!
https://servercooties.com/raw?start=2015-08-18&end=2015-08-19
note that that's just the endpoints we measure, the overall score is calculated from the actual values for display in the website. (note that a future version of sockSite will give raw for the overall metapoint as well. but that's not implemented yet.)
change the start and end values as you see fit, just don't spread them too far as you'll get cutoff after.... 100k records IIRC
i also have the raw sqlite file if you want that that has the data from all time (i havent purged any old data yet, 47MB of tracking data since the project started)
-
ICHIBAN! finally got it to post!
-
More of the same in the error logs.
-
I may not know my Sonic, but I couldn't pass up clicking on a JSR-related track's remix. And it had to come here, after that.

Status: Just realized that all of our license plates have been expired for 18 days.
-
I forgot my MOT for about 3 months once.Just totally slipped my mind. Then I was driving along and the gears started turning, been a long time since the last one, hmmm... Thankfully I wasn't pulled over, think it's a fairly hefty fine.
Is there an automatic penalty for you or is it a case of do it quick before anyone notices?

not sure about @polygeekery's home state but for my home state it's the owed excise tak, plus handling fee (that's what you pay yearly for the plates anyway), with the issue date of the plates backdated to when they were originally due. some municipaolities issue a fee for late processing as well but the state doesn't. or at least not when you remember without being stopped (i forgot once too). there's also a 30 day grace period to cover the "i forgots" cases
of course if a cop stops you for expired plates you can expect a ticket, and that's not cheep

No automatic penalty. You just have to pay for your plates.
As an interesting aside, a friend had a truck that he left parked to 3 years. When he went to get plates for it, he had to pay for all those previous years, despite it never touching the road. Cheeky bastards.
Now that I have paid for the plates, even if I get pulled over there will not be a ticket, just the hassle of them looking up the plates and seeing that they are current in the system.
of course if a cop stops you for expired plates you can expect a ticket, and that's not cheep
Many years ago, I was on my way to work on August 1st at 5:30AM and I got pulled over. The cop asks me if I know that my plates are expired. I tell him that yes, I knew, but things had been so busy that I had not had time. I also told him that I was taking off work early to get it taken care of. (actually the truth, believe it or not) The dickhead ended up writing me a ticket, for plates that had been expired for 5.5 hours.
That still pisses me off.
-
here, the driver's license lasts 5 years.
when my first one expired, i forgot, and continued driving for about 4 months. until i got pulled up.
the cop asked me for my license and went:
cop - "hey, your driving license it's expired"
jarry - O.O "really?"
cop - "yep, by four months"
cop - returns my driving license - "here you go, but you should get a new license. you might get into trouble with an expired one"
cop - "have a good day"
-
The dickhead ended up writing me a ticket, for plates that had been expired for 5.5 hours.
that was not covered by some sort of grace period?
here all i would have to do was challenge the ticket in court and it would be overturned as invalid. (now being a month and 5.5 hours out wouldn be a different story)
-

Which occurred in my case. It still pissed me off that he was so by-the-books that I was written a ticket for 5.5 hours of expired plates.
-
That's not my favourite of the JSRF tracks, but that was a game I loved for both its music and its gameplay…
-

There's no grace period here, though the level of fines does ramp up over time, and I think if you pay them before they get round to issuing the summons they're not too worried.
Why yes, the phrase “gouging scum” does apply. Why do you ask?
-
It's one of the more memorable ones IMO. I like all the Guitar Vader tracks best, though.
-
a ticket for 5.5 hours of expired plates.
he was in a bad mood, no one can think that such ticket is fair

in a bad mooda fucking asshole, no one can think that such ticket it's fairFTFY

Also, now my playlist has hit Shape Da Future, which was my ringtone for a few months recently.
-
That's an awesome one. Like it Like this Like that is pretty much my favourite though (and fits for here somehow too, especially /t/1000 ;))

My favorite started playing just now:
