F'n Skype
-
Microsoft launched Skype Translator, its attempt at real-time voice and text translations, a few months back with much hoopla. It launched with support for Chinese and Italian, with the promise of more languages to come.
...
"A glitch in the beta software misinterpreted the words I spoke. 'It's nice to talk to you' was translated as 'It's fcking nice to fck you,' and other synthesized profanity, like the icebox robot in 1970's sci-fi flick Logan's Run, but with Tourette Syndrome. It was quite funny to me - I couldn't help but laugh during repeated takes, to Yan's exasperation - but the tech team were none too happy about it as they worked late into the night."
-
like the icebox robot in 1970's sci-fi flick Logan's Run,
That is the best metaphor.
-
Chinese and Italian
"Well, so we're going to pick two languages. First, let's go with Chinese - it's got one of the biggest user bases, we might be seeding a hot market, and the translation feature should be very helpful to our customers here who have a lot of business dealing with China.
For the next one, I strongly suggest Italian."
"Italian? Why?"
"Because seriously, I can't fucking stand their goddamn screaming."
-
TIL Chinese is a single spoken language. I hope they do African as their next language.

TYML
EDIT: TYW -bz
-
I'm pretty sure that was a whoosh.

-
Officially
But them southerners keep speaking cantonese for some reason.
-
OK, so that was meant as a FTFY..... but FTFY from phone is difficult...
Meh, whatever.
-
Is it only me or is the damn abr-thingy broken?
-
Not just you. I've never managed to get the tooltip to appear on my tablet, no matter how long I hover my finger over the screen.
-
-
On mobile, it works the way that abbr title is expanded inline just after abbr-ed text. I think Jeff decided to kill this stupid "everything is a mobile" brain worm.
-
Is your tablet getting discourse's mobile mode? I think some of them get desktop. As @Gaska said, @PJH did a CSS hack to make the title show up for mobile.
-
-
Well, my hovercraft is full of eels.
-
As @Gaska said, @PJH did a CSS hack to make the title show up for mobile.
/* Make acronym behave like abbr */ acronym[title] { border-bottom: 1px dotted; } acronym[title]:after { content: " [" attr(title) "]"; } /* Show abbr and a title contents on mobile */ abbr[title]:after { content: " [" attr(title) "]"; } .cooked a[title]:after { content: " [" attr(title) "]"; } /* Hide the quote button text */ .cooked .quote-controls a[title]:after { content: ""; }

Woosh?
Well, I assumed your tablet supports the hover gesture. It works fine on my sister's Wacom.

It works fine on my sister's Wacom.
Does it work even with a finger? Or only with a pen? If it also works with a finger, then I guess the joke's on me.
-
Woosh?
hover my finger over the screen
I read it as a joke inside an actual
bugdiscourse usage report.
