Wow. Discourse does things a really odd way, even for markdown:

There's a markdown variant called showdown?
Oh, we gotta have that here!

Wait, isn't that actually kinda useful? Start a numbered list with 1, but then just use bullets after that... If you insert something while editing you don't have to re-number the list.
Trying as an edit...
- something
- inserted this one with an edit after posting
- something else
- yet another thing
(It worked...)

I think TRWTF here is that @tar found the one place in discodown where you don't need newlines to do something. (OK, that's misleading, but the fact that the list isn't requiring newlines for new list items is retarded.)
-
In the context of Markdown, there are so many s and they're so deeply nested that I'm not really sure that it's fair to try to pick one of them and say "this, this one is the real of Markdown".

Ah, ok. Wonder what
Standard MarkdownCommonMark will do?

But chances are we'll see it here someday. And maybe on Reddit, weren't they one of the co-conspiritors? Oh, and maybe Stack sites...

We should start a sweepstake: CommonMark will appear on this site:

Place your bets now, ladies & gentlemen....

strikethrough?
-
The markdown one. I'm not a great fan of Markdown, but
~~strikethrough?~~
Is easier to write than
<s>strikethrough?</s>
And involves less language mixage.
-
Besides babelmark, you can try CommonMark stuff here: http://spec.commonmark.org/dingus/
It doesn't do strikethroughs with tildes. But Blakey will finally be able to start a list with 3.
-
My money's on after. Least the import project has WTFers on it.
As for the amount of money, it's best not to speculate.
Wait, how did I refer to @ben_lubar there?

Rule 34.Wiki

Of course there's a Wikia site for it. The only surprising thing would be if it wasn't full of misspelled one-sentence stubs (which is impossible)

http://tailsdoll.wikia.com/wiki/Tails_Doll_Wiki
That is a wiki devoted to one crappy character from Sonic R, a naff spin-off game.Everything has a wiki.

…nearly everything has a wiki…

While searching for "tar wiki", I found this:
tar ("tape archive") is a Unix application that creates (and extracts) archives in the ".tar" format. It is typically used through the text-based terminal, using cryptic single-letter arguments such as "tar -cvf archive.tar *". The comic alludes to the fact that despite years of use of the command, it's still hard to remember the arguments without searching for them, such as with Google.
The title text points out that while much of computing changes very quickly, the tar program, which is very old (originating ca. 1975), is still around and heavily used. And yet, Randall complains he still cannot type out a line of tar command with correct flags without having to look the flags up.
The joke here is that a "tar" command with perfect syntax on the first try without outside help is such a daunting task that even Rob can't overcome it with assuredness, and apologizes for their imminent death.

Tails dool? Wasn't that a creepypasta?
Why the fuck do I know that?
Oh, right, youtube...
-
-
Ok, but I'm sure there was also a crappy story. And that logo does look like a very poor attempt at being creepy...
WAIT!
The Tails Doll is a Creepypasta, a creepy Internet Meme.
From the onebox! Suck it, hedgehog!

From the onebox! Suck it, hedgehog!
May have become one, but it is a genuine character from Sonic R:
Interestingly, the onebox has picked an image of pencils from a comic instead of a picture of Tails Doll itself…

I am not doubting your knowledge of this. But the image in your previous onebox led me to think of the meme thing first.

Wow, not that surprising the list handling code in our markdown library is very very complex
On the upside we have concrete plans to move off it to http://talk.commonmark.org/t/markdown-it-high-speed-pluggable-parser-for-js-with-commonmark-support/977 , though we have no concrete date. It is immune to this crazy and is a far easier to follow implementation https://markdown-it.github.io/

fictional character
She is an anthropomorphic 12-year-old pink hedgehog
I wonder if they had to add the fictional bit after people got confused about whether she really existed
-
No idea. But given it's a wiki page, there's always the commit history…
-
I barely cared enough to make the crappy joke. You don't expect me to do any research do you?
-
They're Sonic fans; do you really have to wonder?
