We should be able to delete PM threads

There's no suggestions category, so I'm using
Bug
.But yeah, we should be able to delete stale PM threads.

Deleting
post_number==1
would mean, by implication, that you could delete other people's posts. WONTFIX BYDESIGN, bugs passim ad-nausea, et alia, etc...

CLOSED_WONTFIX
(The fact that toxic-hellstew-90s-forums are able to allow individual people to delete PMs is irrelevant, of course)
EDIT: Hanzoโd (but I bothered to DiscoSearch the original topic)
-
What happens if you unlist a PM?
-
the original topic
Presumably any other add-ons that do anything similar (e.g. a bug tracker) would be expected to similarly bastardise topics.
Oh how we giggled at the thought...
-
So I was thinking about making a special type of topic that was an election...
-
Does it have to be preceded by a massive flamewar topic set to autoclose in a month or so?
-
set to autoclose
Will it be able to be closed if the forum is set to allow users' locales?
-
Election not started: The site has not been online for a year.

Election is invalid; try to be a little more descriptive

Well then, I give my vote to the person who proposes the best plan to entice more flamewars.
You just lost that one vote with your "logic" and "decency" campaign plan, FYI.

Hm, on the topic of flamewars...
How about "votes of confidence" in elected TL4s? Three people call for a vote of confidence, system creates a new Meta topic where you can vote. (Would be the process to demotion.) Along with never logging in, I suppose.
-
Could be fine. Not sure it will go over well on meta.d though. But give it a try on both ideas tbh, I think both could be useful and would (hopefully) result in less work for mods on that front.
Is there an "official" way to reach TL4 other than a manual promotion anyway?
-
-
No, that was supposed to be the official way to reach it, eventually. At the same time, I'm not about to start building that today because it doesn't seem like any forums urgently need it right now.
-

Speaking of which, what's happening with TL4 stuff over on meta?

Not yet.
And given the privileges that go with TL4, making the process automatic would be a pretty horrible idea.
-
Given the amount of people that habitually give admin powers out to just about anyone, even that is a pretty horrible idea, let alone the notion of automation.
I think we end up saying it about once every couple of days to people 'if you don't trust the people you're giving admin access to, don't give them admin access'. And have been saying this for years.

Oh, yes, we have a very rigorous process here for that.
-
You have a more rigorous process than some of the people I deal with.
-
We very rigorously give out the root password...
-
You still have a more rigorous process than the people I deal with.
-
I was somewhat facetious. Not that there's a lot of process, but there's at least consensus. Or some trust, anywho.
-
Yes, that's still more process than I have to deal with
-
if you tell me they autopromote everyone to admin i'm calling vinnie

I think I need to call Vinnie.

i'll PM you his number. Tell him Accalia sent you and he'll give you a discount.
-
I made a private messaging plugin when I was 14 and I never had this problem. Users could subscribe other users to a PM thread, and each user could unsubscribe themself from a PM thread. If nobody was subscribed to a PM thread, the thread would be deleted.
An autistic teenager can do it right. Jeff has no excuse.
Edit: oh, and it had actual threading.

What was the programme that was in called?

I'd assume you didn't watch it anyway, owing to the lack of pinkpurple hedgehogs and stuff.
