It's rather amazing how much less cool suction cups are than lack of gravity.
-
no, but those suction cups are impressively good!
There's been a dart stuck on the body of the ceiling fan in my bedroom--my son shot it there--for almost four years.
-
True, but I'd have to get up and go around my desk to get to it.
Or do an awesome rolling dive over your desk. It would be much more practical in a Nerf war.

And the monitors on top of the desk? I have a pair of 22" displays--they take up a significant fraction of the width of the desk.

There are always casualties in war.
And only 22"? Fool, you need to get 24" displays.

From the company that's still making me suffer with a 2010-era Pentium?
Oh, the UPS on our local server rack seems to have had a battery failure a couple weeks ago--it's only a year and a half old or so--and who knows when, if ever, we'll get a replacement.

I feel you. We had to replace three batteries on our four-battery UPS that supports our server room this year. When they replaced the first one, they had to basically disassemble the entire unit because the battery had bulged so badly. That was when they noticed the second one was bulging and recommended it come out as well. Management held off until it actually failed. By then a third battery needed replacement. We're almost to the point where it would have been cheaper to get a new unit instead.
-
Then takes 4 hours to reload.
-
well the point is mostly a deterrent anyway.

Ridiculous. A death blossom cries out to be used.

BTW, how do you size these things? Our 1500W or whatever unit was backing up a 10-12 year old HP tower server, a pair of 2U rackmounts (one of the two redundant PSUs; the other went into the wall), and a couple of ancient 12-port switches. Maybe we actually had too much on the thing.

-
why not? it has assured an uneasy truce for the last couple of months (the exaggeration of how many nerf guns i own not withstanding)

When it comes to sizing one for a server room, it depends on a lot of things (how long does it need to keep everything up, what needs to be kept up, do you have any other backup power solutions, etc.). Probably best to consult a specialist. From your description, I'd say you almost certainly had too much on that poor UPS.
In case of a power outage, our on-site server room is supported by an APC Symmetra1. The thing is massive. It actually stands in the corner and takes up about as much floor space as a server rack. When all the batteries are properly maintained, it can keep the room going long enough for someone to get onsite and turn on our diesel generator. Or for the power to come back on. Whichever happens first.
1 Picture of something like what we have:
-
We had an 1500VA or whatever the common rating is APC. We only need the servers to last long enough to gracefully shut down rather than crash.
I figured the thing was underpowered for the load, but I'd have to crawl around in the back to figure out how big the PSUs are, unless Dell's website has that information on retired products readily available.

It's incredibly annoying, as a web developer, when something that has no fucking right to run a Web server runs a Web server. On 80 and 443. Meaning Apache/IIS won't fucking run, unless I configure them to use port 23758 or something.
As for the Nerf Nuke:

Nah. Just make sure they don't know you have the SECOND one ready to go...

If only Alice were smart enough to know about Task Manager.
I don't need the features Skype has that weren't in Windows/MSN Messenger, so these days I use pidgin or some other client.
