Find out how to get Jon Skeet raging mad from this one amazing SO question
-
Jon Skeet is usually super nice, which is why this caught my attention.
I was curious, so I looked it up. Oh boy.
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/25862025/convert-date-time-based-on-locationtimezone
Posting it here, in case SO nazimins delete it. Here it is, in all its glory.
I want to show date/time according to TimeZone of user. User acces site at that time according its location database date/time convert to its TimeZone. How can i do give me any idea please
Comments...
Jon Skeet:
So do you already have the time zone? It's not clear from your question. (It's not at all clear what "at that time according its location database date/time convert to its TimeZone" means. Do you have the location? Do you have the time zone? What?) What have you tried so far, if anything? Are you actually looking for a solution to "How can I determine a time zone from a location?"
Nagesh's third cousin on sister's side:
i dont have any time zone or any location based on client request location i have to convert my Database date time to client timezone.
Jon Skeet:
If you don't have any time zone or location, it's hard to tell what you're expecting in an answer. Please clarify your question a lot.
NTCSS:
i want to show my site date time based on user location
Jon Skeet:
Right, so what information do you have? (We shouldn't be having to get the information from you like blood from a stone... please read tinyurl.com/stack-hints)
NTCSS:
i have nothing and my question on that i have nothing and how can i do it
NTCSS:
and please not negative point my question. its your fault that you cant understand question.
Jon Skeet:
Okay, if that's going to be your attitude, I'm out of here. I doubt that you'll find others able to help you without more information either. Good luck.
NTCSS:
no its not my attitude, still i am in problem but this is wrong that i want to tell. if you want to negative my question then do it third time.
NTCSS:
still i have 10 points
NTCSS:
still 1 points to go
And of course, soon after he got three excellent answers anyway. That's why we can't have nice things.
-
i appreciate your answer but For example Gmail has countrty wise setting for mail date/time exactly i want to do. #
Sigh. Now that it's clear what he's asking for, I can vote to close as unclear what he's asking for.
-
Bonus fact: one cannot go below a SO reputation of 1. Disco-style rounding?
-
Oh well, dropped a “do it in the client you moron” comment in there. Except I was nicer than that.
-
That's in the rendering of the rep. Real rep can go way negative for persistent fuckwits.
-
No, that's not true. If I upvoted his question, it'd jump back to 6.
What happens to persistent fuckwits is they outright lose their privilege to ask or answer questions.
-
I'm pretty sure it's history-based. Like I care. CLOSEWITHEXTREMEPREJUDICE.
-
Look at the guy's badges.
Informed: Read the entire about page
I somehow doubt that.
-
Nice click-bait style title there…
-
Glad SOMEONE has noticed. Don't know why I even bother dressing up for you guys. From now on, all my titles are some variation of "Whatever... stuff".
-
It probably would have been more impactful if I knew, or cared, who Jon Skeet was.
-
This all reminds me of a major WTF about HTML: There is no native "client-side local time" tag, that would take an UTC time as input and display as the client's local time. Why? This is precisely the kind of thing that should be handled by the client, rather than require the server to know the client's TZ...
-
NTCSS:
and please not negative point my question. its your fault that you cant understand question.
I agree with Jon Skeet here. If you have this attitude i'm not helping you. Gotta be willing to work with others in programming or you will fail. If others ask questions of your code there's almost always a good reason for it.
-
Why?
Because the HTML5 designers are full of fail and don't actually listen to real users. Or they just think they can say “use Javascript already”.
-
It's been deleted, but from the content here it seems he had little knowledge of both programming and English. Sadly it's hard to teach both in one post. You'd get hella reputation for that though.
-
So which answer did your intern choose?
I have tried to help people who react like this. Like my 7 year old son. They think you're attacking them or something when you ask for clarification.
-
Title could use some work, like...
'Find out how to get a raging skeet'
-
Like my 7 year old son. They think you're attacking them or something when you ask for clarification.
Phew. Not just me then.
-
Thank you for reposting, the Nazi admins were on the ball.
-
Wow, it's removed entirely, not even the standard "locked because reasons" crap.
-
hmmm... how long has it been since someone invoked Godwin's law on this forum? is @blakeyrat the first?
-sigh-
well time to pack up and move to a different thread. this one is dead.
-
You know who else is dead?
That's right. Hitler.
-
hmmm... how long has it been since someone invoked Godwin's law on this forum? is @blakeyrat the first?
The fuck? I was just quoting Cartman82.
I don't mind being blamed for stuff I do, but it's really annoying to be blamed for stuff I didn't even do.
-

This. QFT btw. It's a sign that whoever originally asked the question can't get their feelings far enough onto the sidelines to allow the question to be answered, never mind actually listening to it.
-
Then @blakeyrat is not the first to invoke Godwins Law here, @cartman82 might be though.
I was asking a question to obtain such information, thank you for providing it.
-
You'll maybe not be shocked to find out Discosearch pegs @tufty with the earliest Hitler mention on June 11th 2014:

Do you even know what's Godwin's Law? Hint: It's not any mention of nazis and/or Hitler during random conversation.
-
well i'll be [insert generic hillbilly expression of surprise here] you're right!
@tufty is the first invoker of Godwin's law on the new(new?) TDWTF forums.
(@cartman: I am aware. @blakeyrat's mention most likely doesn't apply, but @tufty's is fairly clear
As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1
Corollary to Godwin's Law #1
Once a comparison to Nazi's or Hitler has been made the discussion is then over and the person or persons who made the comparison are declared to have lost the discussion.)
-
nazimins
Anyways, @cartman82 said "nazimins" which sounds like some kind of unfortunate vitamin brand.
-
You're all worse than Hitler, Mao and Stalin rolled into one.
-
We do try.
-
Hmm...I replied right below @tufty, and got the reply indicators on his post and mine. Score one for the good guys.
-
yes, we try very hard.
-
Shit. Can I do that again?
You're all literally worse than Hitler, Mao and Stalin rolled into one.
Ah. I feel better now.
-
A question that gets closed and can't be improved gets deleted. The asker didn't give a fuck about improving it. No one in the community wanted to polish this turd. Thus the community deleted it.
Nevermind that, had this turd been polished, it would've been closed anyway as a duplicate of this. Look, it's even got them codez.
-
Right but people volunteered effort to answer it, and those asshole admins deleted those people's contributions without their consent.
That's the problem with deletionism either on StackOverflow or Wikipedia or where ever, people spent effort on that content and you deleted it. What incentive have you given them to spend effort next time? You alienate users every time you do this, and soon you've alienated everybody except the tiny core of tiny website dictators.
Even worse is when quality content is deleted because it happened to be associated with non-quality content. Guilty by association.
-

It's hard to argue against that. Getting all rolled into one should have killed them all, and what's better than killing those assholes? Not me.
-
Hint: if you don't like heavy moderation, Stack Exchange might not be the site for you.
-
It's not. Who said it was?

It's not just admins that can delete questions on StackExchange sites. Anyone with 10,000 or more internet points on StackOverflow can vote to delete a locked question.
A question with 0 score (no upvotes/downvotes) requires... 5 votes, I think and it scales up or down depending on how many upvotes/downvotes the question has.
The question had a score of
-41
and was deleted by 3 normal users.Incidentally, users with 10,000 or more internet points on StackOverflow (such as me) can still see deleted questions.
-
Well at least it's not a hard delete like Wikipedia. It still sucks to ask volunteers to provide free labor, then delete it when they do.

It's even more fun when you've just finished typing up a response with links to back up what you're saying only to find out that the question has been locked or deleted.

A good moderator would migrate what could be salvaged over to the question it was a duplicate of.
Filed under: Some users really do need to be alienated
-

I believe the idea is to discourage people from answering questions that are obviously shit, like this one. Not that there aren't always new idiots on a site that big, but the idea is to intentionally discourage people from answering unless it's a decent question to start with.
-
Incidentally, the same people who have the option of deleting questions can also undelete them if they think they were wrongly deleted.
-

I think you'll find that the target question has already about a bajillion answers. I don't believe the answers on this dupe brought anything new to the table.
-
LOL. Selected answer is at -2 votes.

You know who else is dead?
That's right. Hitler.
If nothing else, he's the only person that's ever killed Hitler.

If he were anyone else, he probably would have gotten a medal.
