And that's the difference. By the time BT thought to get into that game, too many politicians had too many constituents writing to them to “get it sorted” and the chance for locking the competition out was gone. After a few years fighting it, BT's management realised this too and split the company. There's now not much profit on the physical networks side (which is the closely regulated part) and the services side seems to do well for itself.

I had a legit reply to the regulation/corruption stuff... but reading @blakeyrat 500 times pretty much left me in tears laughing.
