🙅 THE BAD IDEAS THREAD
-
I just saw a commercial for a clothing sale with people dancing in a cafeteria, and it said "DO NOT ATTEMPT." at the bottom.
-
I'm white and cannot dance. Definitely something that I should not attempt.
-

I'm not even in the 'should not' category any more, it's fully 'will not'.
-
I find it inane and pointless.
-
I find it inane and pointless.
I find plenty of people like that, too.
Oh you meant dancing. Yes. It's not entirely pointless if you're after a certain kind of mate, as it is essentially a form of mating ritual. But for normal people, it seems pretty useless a skill to have.
-
I find it inane and pointless.
I find it immensely enjoyable and, rewarding isn't quite the right word, but I can't come up with anything better at the moment.
it is essentially a form of mating ritual
It can be, and it worked for me 20-some years ago, but it isn't necessarily. It is a social activity, and it can be a useful skill to have in some situations.

Beer works much, much better.

I agree with the guy. Fucking celery? Really?

Actually, those are tangerines.

Pumpkins are ... not healthy?
Huh?Err...I mean...not when I fucking make a jack-o-lantern by slammin one onto your damn head, they aren't.
-
I'm just confused why you would make pumpkins out of celery and tangerines, in the name of healthiness, no less, if you could just use actual pumpkins.

Maybe they didn't have a big enough plate?

Oops...I saw that, but I thought it was a candle under glass...which doesn't entirely make sense, but hey, we fill in the details we want, eh?

I don't care about the bottle because the facebook logo really brings it together.

Python web-based code that isn't exactly happy with Unicode in the first place.
I had this line in a copypasta'd
linkify()
method, blew a few things up yesterday.
-
Making EquipSlots in my MUD as a database table so admins can define parts of your body where items can be equipped/worn/wielded. I don't think I need to extrapolate on why this is a potentially bad idea.
-
Codpiece.
-
Why is that a bad idea?
What if I want to equip an item on my bran muffin?
-
It's a perfectly valid idea. Minotaurs can wear jewelry on their horns. Other races can't. Sure it's abuseable, but most features are.
Imagine if "able" up there was italicized, like every other thing surrounded by asterisks in Markdown. Wouldn't that be awesome? You'll just have to imagine it, though, because hey look I found another. fucking. bug.

Ben Wa balls. -20 hidden, +4 sensuality?
Obviously NSFW if you choose to google them.
-
-
I know it's valid, hence why I'm adding it. I just strongly suspect there will be...shenanigans during testing. (I'm also somewhat looking forward to such shenanigans.)

Not only that, but it's a bug that isn't present in any other markdown library.
-
Gasp! Haskell Markdown Library uses... <i> tags?! And the other super-hipster Markdown users haven't yet tortured them for using a *gasp* tag with no semantic meaning!?
-
Pandoc is the only (haskell) implementation of Markdown that anyone should care about.
-
I must disagree, Ben. Nobody should care about any Haskell implementations of Markdown.
-
Rephrased:
An implementation of Markdown being Pandoc is required, but not sufficient for people to need to care about it.

John (author of Pandoc) wrote Cheapskate. It's much faster.

Bad idea: thinking about saving settings for userscripts in a hidden tag in user's bio instead of cookies.
Then again, fits with the Doing it Wrong™ theme. Wonder if I can automate it...

The plastic bottle on the mantelpiece
I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have noticed that, were I not specifically looking for an anachronism in the picture because I already knew there was one, somewhere. Even then, it took, perhaps, a full minute of diligent searching.

I like it.

Old news. I noticed that months ago; I may even have reported it in Really
UsefulIgnored Bug Reports back when that was a thing, but CBA to DiscoSearch.

I must say, the bad ideas thread is certainly the right place for that along with everything else associated with Dwarf Fortress.
