I'm sure this has absolutely nothing to do with that thread.

I'm sure this has absolutely nothing to do with that thread.
'course not.
Which reminds me...
-
I gave up trying to keep up with that thread in the end.
-
I'm purposefully avoiding it to see in what ways the unread posts count breaks.
Oh, I guess I could use a sockpuppet, but at least it makes me feel better about it.
-
And somehow, I'm not quite sure how, my lurking arse got themselves a leader badge. I didn't think I came anywhere close to having something like that.
-
I didn't think I came anywhere close to having something like that.
The criteria (which are all still default) aren't particularly onerous, especially with a community like ours:
Sometime after the 27th of August, if I can be bothered, I'm going to have a look at what the relevant values are for all the leaders to see if they can/need to/should be tweaked any.
Given the current set of members, however, I think it'll end up just being an exercise in curiosity.

Nice to see the rush for 10k in the infor graphic for posts! :-)

Whoop-de-shit. Look at all of those awful unfunny posts from jerks. Oh hey and guess who hasn't posted, just like he hadn't participated in this community before. Alex. Oh well at least we're driving his server bills up so maybe I can imagine that's some kind of petty revenge.
-
Whoop-de-shit. Look at all of those awful unfunny posts from jerks.
Just because you're miserable as fuck does not mean you have to inflict that misery on the rest of us.

Aaaaaand... one more!

Just because you're miserable as fuck does not mean you have to inflict that misery on the rest of us.
Of course I don't have to. I want to. Enjoy my misery.

Why not? There's two ways to narrow a gap: raise the lower bar and lower the higher bar. A lot of people try the latter approach because then they themselves get out of the equation.

I pity people like @blakeyrat who are clearly in that category. It's such a negative way of looking at the universe. The universe is full of failure, yes. Inflicting more failure on people doesn't fix it, it just treats symptoms.
If this is any indication of @blakeyrat's general approach to software, that it's better to bitch about crap than to make less crappy things, no wonder he's so miserable because he's never going to get out of wading through shit.

Your logic makes no sense at all. So I should feel good about using shitty software because the software I personally make (in your little hypothetical world) is less shitty?
You're also assuming that bitching about shitty software is mutually-exclusive with writing good software, and I have no idea where that comes from. I can do both.
In any case, I'm no longer bitching about the software you may have noticed, but about the community which is at this point basically stone-dead, and replaced by an entirely different one.

And if you treat symptoms, people feel better. Also: if a person wants a fish and not a fishing rod + instructions, for $DEITY's sake, give him a fish. But walk away before he wants another one.

Or maybe, just maybe.... we are all the old DailyWTF members. We just picked out new nicknames to mess with you!

I'm not. I'm a lurker from the old days and new participant since Dickcorpse.

This makes no sense. Lowering the high bar reduces failure, obviously.
Option three, undoubtedly the hardest approach, is to make the higher bar more attainable, but apparently people can't distinguish that from actually lowering the bar i.e. "dumbing down".
Your vision opens the door for more inscrutable crappy, badly designed games/UI, which are then defended by their unempathic creators with a stifling "just fucking learn; I'm not going to dumb it down" which is code for "I'm too lazy or arrogant to help you have fun and become better at this" under the pretense of being "smart".

...or... so you say.... <h3>MORBIUSWILTERS!</h3>
Morbius wouldn't call himself TRWTF.
Unless... that's what he wants us to think!

You could always just go back to the CS forums.

-
He hates the people there, too.
I was just thinking he could stop bitching about how the community has changed if he goes back to CS.
-
Bitches gonna bitch.

The community now includes all the lurkers who didn't bother with posting in CS.
I personally would probably post less if @morbiuswilters, @Lorne_Kates, @whoeverelseleft came back and posted more, because then I'd be busy reading instead of typing. Although it is entertaining to break Dicsourse so we can revel in its ineptitude.
-
I'm not sure it's quite the same sentiment when the forums themselves are locked.

Sure you guys, keep poking holes in my suggestion.

Yeah, markdown only appears to work when at word boundaries. Go figure.
-
That's new, because it used to work. I think it's probably a regression bug. @PJH_4 @pjh @PJHH @PJH_3 @PJH_MOD
-
Well, yeah. Who needs regression testing?
-
-
And this seems like some of the simplest sort of stuff to add tests for. I mean, they were given specific cases that were broken.
-
The issue seems to be that this is UI/UX stuff that needs to be tested, and it seems that they don't have any testing for the UI/UX. Discourse is one of those the users are the QA department operations.

Yeah...but especially for something as finicky as their markdown stuff, it should be dead simple to give it some input and make sure it still gives you what you think is right. I mean, you don't even have to think hard about writing the test.
-
Discourse is one of those the users are the QA department operations.
Oh, the famed "complaint-driven development" Jeff railed about.
The same Jeff that told us we're doing it wrong when we complained.
I'm starting to see a pattern here...
-
@PJH_4 @pjh @PJHH @PJH_3 @PJH_MOD
You missed, from memory, at least three of my other socks. The yellow one, and the unreasonably shocked one spring to mind...
Irregardless, for the avoidance of doubt, since @Ben_Luxor started this I think...
!) if I'm around, @PJH will get to me. And I'll see it.
@) messing with my socks is pointless.
#) just ask Dobby.

I just wanted to send you a bunch of emails because @pj pulled up like 5 names.
-
Okay, putting aside the whole thing of us being the pale gnats crawling in the shadows of long gone TDWTF giants...
...what about the whole weekday vs weekend cycle? Five days of high traffic, followed by two days of quiet... It's almost like many TDWTF members are only here during the work hours. Maybe even WASTING THE COMPANY TIME?
-
Maybe even
WASTING THE COMPANY TIME[Compiling|Running SQL|Running Reports|Fucking offBreak|Lunch]?FTFY

Mails are set up to be sent, however because reasons I don't read them....
I search them..

But it would probably be a pretty lonely bitching...

+1!

What, two months into Discourse and you still expected ** as markup for "bold" would work inside a word?
-
That's new, because it used to work. I think it's probably a regression bug.
Can't say I've ever experienced it working - if it is a regression bug, than it has been introduced around end of May.Filed under: not that've tried very often after the first time.

Oh no, from the timestamp I can see in your profile you posted this post on July 31, 2014 8:45pm, I'm sure you are not at work!
