🙅 THE BAD IDEAS THREAD

Of course, Jeff flat out stating that he doesn't use the competition is part of the problem here, because he flat out believes he's doing better - except he has no idea what's really going on because he doesn't use forums.
That's the funny part. SO had a good amount of useful info, and so people go there with IT issues/questions.
No one will be going to the majority of Discourse installs, very few forums will use it, and meta.discourse will only be used to talk about how Discourse fails.

Well, I only found one in the wild so far (apart from this one that is): FreePBX forums.
Luckily, so far that place has proven to be mostly useless (even before the switch to DC), so I started to skip results from there regardless.

Do you think that he had a hand in it? Who would voluntarily use Discourse?

People who don't know any better and are taken in by the shiney?

Doubt it, it's a pretty niche community. Didn't try to look for his posts on there though, or even if he has an account.

All signs point to "YES"

Testing to see if bumping a topic into the top three most recent borks its Likes count.
Edit: Apparently not a bad idea, as it didn't work.

Shows as only having one like for me.

That's because I found a different repro, and someone else must have implemented it here. Or someone just liked something ...

A WTF of a company idea: organize a team-wide get-together after work where participation is considered obligatory but everyone pays their own food, drinks and whatnot.
Thank you, I have my own ideas on how I spend my time when not on my job.

Decompiling "antivirus" apps from the Play store
Addendum: just to clarify, this is not mine, it's from the twitter feed of a security researcher. He wrote an article about it where you can find more interesting code snippets. Like one that actually checks if any of the installed packages contains the word "virus" and warns you if it does.

Pretty much confirms my suspicions...

Don't you mean the "containers" for the natural harvest ingredients?
Don't you mean @PJH's avatar.

Yeah things like thisWow, your balls look way much better than mine.
are rather strange when pulled out of context.

Sorry, I have to return some videotapes.

Did he name his kid 3000 MKIII?

Bad idea: spending a full day buying a new eBook reader (because you left your old one in the train like an idiot).
Then, after extensively comparing the Kindle Paperwhite, the Kobo Glo, the Kobo Aura and two local brands (that were significantly cheaper but had a bad reputation, and I didn't want to gamble it), and settling down on the Glo because it's 10€ cheaper but still good, you discover that the Aura, the newer and better version was even cheaper all along! YOU SAID IT WAS MORE EXPENSIVE, MY WHOLE DAY WAS A LIE.
[This post was originally 6 paragraphs long because I literally spent a day comparing ebook reader prices, but I cut it down for readability]
-
I'm confused, wouldn't the important thing when deciding between readers be what formats they support so you don't need to rebuy all your books?
-
Price isn't that important of a metric when it comes to how happy you are with the product.
-
-
124,000 something.
Beat me. Shouldn't be hard.
-
Beat me.
Bad idea: Beating people, especially
people who can ban mei mean cool people like dhromed

hey wait a minute

Yes, you could say spending an hour searching for a different place to buy something to save 3€ of shipping cost is a bad idea.

So we all know that PMs are just topics on Discourse, right?
Given that, did you know PMs use the same counter as regular posts? Makes sense in the context, but god damn is it confusing.
-
So we all know that PMs are just topics on Discourse, right?
It reminds me of svn's model (everything's a directory). Allows some interesting things, but has serious drawbacks, too.

Yes, that's confusing and not in the least bit retarded too.

SVN has gotten better lately. It doesn't vomit .svn folders everywhere now.

Yeah, but it still makes merging hard due to its incomplete model of the world. That causes problems.
-
True enough. On the flip side, it's not like Git is perfect for all workflows either.
/me will continue to keep using SVN for his own stuff because it suits his workflow better and I'm not merging in changes from others.

That's funny, I'm using Git for the same reason.

Ewww, gross. Coconut.

If it works for you, go for it. I personally find SVN suits my iterative style better and since it's solo stuff, everyone else can go to hell.

Again, Git for the same reasons.

Also, yes, that was how much alcohol it took me to get fed up with the lack of topic OP previews and code my own.

Technically there is only one forum, not multiple. We're not using that toxic hellstew software that deems every area for discussion as a 'separate forum' with 'subforums', instead we have 'categories' because that's so much more hipster.
