Closed Poll: "Likes" Thread - Since it's been asked (again)...

I will however gladly sacrifice Jeff for that.
-
Yes but I have something of a life. It's not much but I'm not sacrificing what little I do have in honour of that.
Come on, we all know that you'll be here in twenty years leading the 1M charge.

I second the motion. Now to put the plan in action ...
-
No by then we'll be on another shitstain of a piece of software.

Using other software is Doing It WrongTM.
-
If we really wanted to stress test, we should aim for 1M+. Then we could see what happens when you quote a post a million posts back.
Jeez guys, come on. It's just a query by ID. It doesn't matter how old it is, you can't fuck that up!

So spaketh Jeff.
When the choice is between a toxic hellstew of PHP and Discourse... I think I'll have the toxic hellstew, thanks. I might choke on its toxic meatiness but at least it won't shit everywhere for no reason.

This is Dicsourse. It can fuck anything up.

DTFY
I felt that was a given and didn't need to be said.

Well, the import process finished on my test instance. Except for categories 1 and 2 because they're not in the category table.
@apapadimoulis what are categories 1 and 2?
-
I strongly suspect these wouldn't change retroactively until a forum rebake, at which time people will wonder wtf happened.
-
what are categories 1 and 2?
http://forums.thedailywtf.com/forums/1.aspx and http://forums.thedailywtf.com/forums/2.aspx?
If so, in order:
Both candidates for either not bothering to import to here, or sticking in "Rubbish" if you really must.

I wonder where the article comments are stored, then...

I wonder where the article comments are stored, then...
Not in that database. I never had anything to do with moderation on the article comments - because it was a totally different system.
-
As it has been pointed out many times, not on CS.
Edit: HANZO'D!
-
In that case, @apapadimoulis, wanna try importing the database on a more recent backup using my script? My backup is pre-likes topic and pre-lorne leaving.
I've looked through a few imported topics and it looks like the only problems with rendering are from markdown quirks like this:

Also move "Status" and "Yo!" over there, maybe? Maybe not.
I'd say so.
Best idea for the new category name: "Off Topic"
Which sounds like it assumes that nothing else here is off topic, although everything is.

Considering your long name, you certainly gt Hanzo'd a lot.
-
since meaningful conversation died ages ago in there
Are you kidding, almost all of the only meaningful conversation I have here is in that topic!
-
+1. The thread we're discussing. Limits.
If you assholes would stop talking about the Likes topic outside of the Likes topic, this thing would get done so much faster.

The first rule of the likes topic... ?

The first rule of the likes topic... ?
Is talk about Likes Topic. As much as possible. In Likes Topic.

Yes! Good idea. Do you mean, do the script for realz? Or like, on a test thing?
-
Testing in production is a thing, remember.
-
I'd suggest doing it on a copy of the forum just in case it gains sentience and decides to delete everything.
-
If it gains sentience from CS posts, it's going to be pretty braindead.

If it gains sentience from CS posts, it's going to be pretty braindead.
Best-case scenario.
-
We must see what effect topics with 100k posts have on the green bar
I believe, for reasons, that will break the green bar, at least the formatting. But there's only one way to find out.
@Onyx said:You know we could just inject some clientside JS to make it believe there are more posts, right?
Two, two ways to find out.Filed under: I'll come in again.
-
We could write bots that actually spam shit with POST requests.
Three, three ways to find out.
-
I will however gladly sacrifice Jeff for that.
+1 because, you know, I'm fresh out of likes.

Your name is Count von Count?

Which is actually code for the 'General' topic.

Well done ben. You made me laugh loud enough for my coworkers to take notice.
Fucker.

What is WRONG with you? Finding something Ben posted as funny?
-
How can you NOT laugh at sentience created by the CS forums?
-
How can you NOT laugh at sentience created by the CS forums?
Except Ben was only considering that possibility of sentience rather than actual sentience, which means we're back to 'how the hell can you find something Ben said as funny?'

I stand by my laughter and find you asinine.

Exactly, I'm glad you see it my way.

Jeff thinks StackOverflow is a suitable example of how forum discussions are supposed to work.
Too bad Stack Overflow is an answer site, not a discussion site...

I know that. You know that. Jeff built the fucking thing and he apparently doesn't.

What we need is splitters. Get the PFJ and the JPF to split this thread and merge it with the Likes one.
