Poll: is refactoring important?

I am noticing that too many times product like ReSharper is big waste of time. Also it slows down the beautiful rich Visual Studio development environment. What good is refactoring code, if code is written well since its birth? Look at JavaScript. No refactoring required. Stay sane, say NO to refactoring.

This poll is a bug in discourse. I have found the bug.
-
Poll fail.
But I would vote Yes. That was one of the difficulties at my last job with management that knew nothing about software development. Me: "Yes, the feature technically works, but it's slow, buggy, ugly, and will give instant brain-herpes to anyone who tries to read it. I need a couple weeks to get it improved and more maintainable."
"No, it works so we're selling it!"
-
It is important. The poll probably failed because you left out FILE_NOT_FOUND.
-
Um why is the last paragraph randomly gray-boxed?
-
I summon @mikeTheLiar

"quote on the first character"
"quote on the first character"
Creates a blockquote, apparently.
-
Wow. So apparently writing quoted text like in standard writing practices was never tested.
-
"WONTFIX: Works as designed"
"do multiline blockquotes
work?"Nope.
-
"what the heck"
"Hit in the nuts"
I'd like to "hit" that. Works.
"hit" me. Also Works.Apparently you have to leave a blank line after a quoted text to get the grey-box of doom. Otherwise it leaves the quotes alone.
-
-
"do multiline blockquoteswork?"
Nope.
Beat me to it.
However, quote-replying your multi-line quotes turns them into single line quotes with greyboxing....

That's....awesome....isn't the right word.
-
You give us far too much credit. Many times the train doesn't even make it to the rails.
-
Lets try that with @mentions...
so if I do @mikeTheLiar and you quote me, have you just been accidentally @mikeTheLiared?Even better, will the wrong @mikeTheLiar of the 2 above end up being mentioned?

Awesome. It does.

Lots of stuff. Newlines are the semi-colons of DC.

I agree. These broken things are the best of the best, as long as they're not so broken that they make it harder to read the forums. @cough @infiniscroll #cough @mikeTheLiar

I also need to sell @Nagesh one Infinni-Poll™, to solve his polling issues.
-
Getting things right the first time is a good thing.
Fixing them when you don't get it right the first time is a good thing.
Using tools that makes getting things right the first time is a good thing.
Using tools that makes fixing things easy is a good thing.
The moral is to use a strongly typed language, encode invariants in the type system, code to sane practices, and refactor (without fear of breaking invariants) when you need to.
-
Having a design that makes sense in the first place is a good thing.
Throwing stuff in the pool because it sounds good is rarely a good thing.

I've made a more appropriate version of that image for around here:
Brb gotta go catch up on my Likes.

Since I ran out of likes for today, I felt it was necessary to indicate my true appreciation for DC failing miserably and saving us from yet another gorram poll.
-
If you're quoting from the 'verse, where the sky cannot be taken from Mal, one does not simply misspell 'gorram'.
-
There, I fixed it. The smegging buttons are right next to eachother. Also, it's almost 1AM. So yes, one does simply misspell things. You don't want to know how much abuse my backspace took just writing this.
-
Of course I do, this is TDWTF and we share our stories of suffering for the amusement of others, as a testament to our strength and hopefully as a guide of how not to fuck things up.
-
abuse my backspace
Is that anything like abusing mentions of @mikeTheLiar and @blakeyrat? Or another sort of abuse that just came to mind, but I really don't want to go there.

That is all I can say.
Filed under: I wonder if anyone will ever figure out it's a link if I don't point it out

Given that DC recognises the link to itself and plonks the link in the gutter...?
-
I keep forgetting about that.
