Why is that guy scratching at a slab of green Play-Doh?

There was a kick a while back to make blackboards out of green Play-Doh because supposedly the contrast of white-on-black was too harsh and white-on-green was easier on students' eyes.

    More like light-gray-on-light-green versus light-gray-on-not-quite-as-light-gray.

I bet you're one of those people who likes to point out that the "black" on an overhead projector is really the same colour as the "white" overhead projector screen.

So you're saying that "white with a light shining on it" and "white without a light shining on it" are two distinct colors? I can see that.

Yes, it's a shade of white, like grey. @Ben L. said:

Actually, I'm saying that when you're talking about how the eyes respond, even if it's the same exact colour, contrast matters.

Gray is a color; grey is a colour.
