Dunno if it makes you a wtf, but can you really read "There, there. They're their ..." without hearing the homophone? DOES NOT COMPUTE

I didn't catch it, but I figured it was just me because I have brain issues.

Most brain issues don't sell for much, except the first few, and then only if in near-mint condition.

I guess it's not 'hear' as such, but for me the identity of each word is inextricably linked to its sound, so I can't help noticing the sounds when I read.

Sometimes I'm the same way. Usually if I'm reading something new or intricate.

Commonly misused homophones tend to slow me down, since they so often make no sense, because so many writers are careless, so I have to go back and reinterpret. Or stuff like lose / loose, which are like nails on a chalkboard and derail the normal reading process. And then there are the people who can't figure out how much they care or whether the question cries out to be asked or is being begged.

     You have no idea.

Wow, I didn't notice the wordplay the first time because I didn't pronounce the words in my head as I read them. I'm not sure if that makes me a WTF.

Dunno if it makes you a wtf, but can you really read "There, there. They're their ..." without hearing the homophone? DOES NOT COMPUTE

I didn't hear anything! I'd read so much slower if a little voice in my head was reading the words aloud to me.

This is the main source of my problem. I type slightly slower than my brain generates thoughts, so my fingers a few seconds behind my brain and they're (their? there? thar?) just trying to keep up (hence, role v. roll). Similarly, when proofing, I can miss small typos/missing articles/gender mismatches/subject-verb agreement because I'm just processing concepts rather than details. I've heard that reading backwards when proofing can help with that issue, but I've tried it and it's just way too tedious for me.

  • I often hear people blasting through 500 page comics in an afternoon, which I think is terrible. I read comics at movie-speed by nature. It's more immersive that way anyway.

What do you mean by "read comics at movie-speed"? Do you mean "process every panel as if the actions are taking place in a movie, and run through it in my head"? I would agree with you, that if you're reading comics and only processing the text, you're doing it wrong, it's a multi-faceted medium and should be treated as such.

Huh. I read lots of novels but could never really get immersed in (narrative) comics. I love short gag-based comic strips (I have an OCD tendency to read and memorize them all) and MSPA though.

I'm not sure why MSPA works for me despite being a narrative, I think it's the single-panel, what-zany-shit-is-gonna-happen-next format.

Fun Home wasn't bad, if you're into that sort of thing. But definitely not for everyone.

I played it also. The 320x240 graphics were incredibly smooth for its day. It was a delight to play. Especiall the great variety of rocket launchers. But I can only frown at remakes like this.

    Why frown?

This remake is very faithful to the original:

You run at 50 miles an hour.

    You have unlimited bullet ammo.

    You eat "priest porridge"

The AI get stuck on stuff.

There's no point saving any rocket ammo, because they'll probably give you another one in about 20 seconds time.

Basically, if you liked the original, you'll probably quite like this one.

Oh yeah... I forgot about the ridiculous traps, the giant rotating collectible coins everywhere, the stupid round hover platforms with blue rockets underneath them, and the bouncy pads that boing you around, and the stylish SS-inspired triad uniforms.

All for no discernible reason, other than "it was in the original".

Well as long as they got the requisite 47 Quick-Time Events added, the 2013 Gaming Police will let them release it.

(Seriously, QTEs in Halo 4? QTEs in Tomb Raider? Ugh.)

Although I just realized I didn't mind the QTEs in Call of Juarez Gunslinger, probably because failing them wasn't instant death. (Instead you get the "death-save" bullet-dodge thing, then can fight on using the normal non-QTE controls.) Then again that game rocked and did pretty much everything right.

The only time I gave up more quickly on reading something is a while ago when a Jehovah's witness slipped a watchtower magazine on the table in front of me at a Starbucks. I ended up doing some weird stencil art with it.
