Might have been @Yazeran.

Urbanus from Uranus
Huh, I honestly don't think I ever heard the last name before.
Maybe because @Luhmann got it wrong/adapted it to English idiom? Urbanus used to call himself Urbanus van Anus but shortened it to just Urbanus in the late 1970s, apparently on the advice of Drs. P.

Well, I'm not short (6', +- 1/2" depending on slouching), but I am stout, so I guess it fits?

is the "killpocalypse" medal that you get from killing enough enemies in a short enough period of time in the Halo games, but with the Discourse project logo photoshopped in front of it. In other words, it's the discopocalypse

About 10 years ago I had the most painful, souldraining software engineering job I could have fathomed. I've wanted to write a chronicle of my 9-month experience but I just didn't want to revisit the horrors of this. But just think of a good chunk of main-site articles all put together in an unsavory stew. It has all the greatest hits: Merge Day, Paula Bean, ITAPPMONROBOT, you name it...
This was my Skype avatar while working there. Nobody realized it was really just me expressing my distain for this job. Given that they seemingly used The Daily WTF as an instruction manual, I decided this was the best fit for this site.
-
@topspin That was on purpose. Without the ringing (e.g., if one were to use a more properlike filter shape), it look just like a bog standard high-pass/edge detect filter.
-
Default avatar. Initially because (or, in -style, "as a placeholder while I look for a better one") but then I found out that it was implemented in a way and broke some stuff (most notably our custom addition (I think?) of turning
:@username:
into an emoji). So, in proper WTD fashion, now I'm keeping it for the annoyance value.
Also I tend to rely a lot on visual memory to quickly identify users and hate when someone changes their avatar, so because I'm a kind person () I'm not doing that.
Yes, I said that I keep it both for annoying and for not annoying others. Deal with it.

That seems like an implementation detail for a future sprint.

A couple of years ago, I still used like @remi the default avatar. But others were confused with all kinds of

I just uploaded a selfie for my avatar.
-
@BernieTheBernie they are called berry farts here.
-
I too would love to live in a society where the Kardashians' claim to fame started with berry farts.
-
My avatar is from a comic book I enjoyed, Buck Godot: Zap Gun For Hire. The character is the Winslow, an idiotic being that is a) completely invincible to all harm, and b) incredibly important for something, but no two species agree about what. (And the local ascended beings actually know, but refuse to explain.)
I found the dichotomy of a vital idiot to be funny, right about the time I needed a new avatar.

There were no alphabet CDNs when I chose this avatar. Simpler times.

@MrL we should really assume the letter CDN doesn’t exist. If only it were that simple to wish away the stupid by simply pretending it doesn’t exist.

I cropped mine from an image I found here that amused me. You may read into it whatever evil moustache twirling you feel necessary; upon legal advice, I will neither confirm nor deny tying maidens to railway tracks in old movies.
I need to find some way of getting the adapted Christmas version back from the busted machine where it currently resides.

-
Mine's a painting, called Accolade by Edmund Blair Leighton, its principle meaning for me is... kinda private but you can certainly draw more than a few inferences from it based on how I act.
-
@Arantor Hmm. I never really thought of you as knight-like.
-
@Arantor You're English?
-
Well, I'm definitely English, that part isn't up for debate.
Knight-like... well, that's up for interpretation. I have been accused of white-knighting in the past, for sure. Though that wasn't a conscious thought when I picked the picture originally (here wasn't the only venue that got that avatar)
-
@Applied-Mediocrity said in Care to explain your avatar?:
@Arantor You're English?
Based on the coat of arms and the flag, the nationality of the people in the picture seems to be Albanian.
-
@LaoC the eagle in the painting is single-headed and has a crescent overlaid on it; the Albanian symbol is double headed.
Consider more that it is a pastiche of several typical heraldic images; the eagle is not that uncommon - and flags were maybe a little different in 190 to now.
-
@Arantor And never did I think that the little fart kneeling in servility was your role. I rather thought of the sword wielding angel. What a mix-up.
