@remi Hi remi, it's me, your boss. I have a new task for you: Send bundles of cash to an unrelated third party. I'll send you the details later through this account, and it is of the utmost importance that you don't ever ask me about this again or bring it up to anyone

Now there's something funny: you know how my work IT is ruled by Mordak and we have an overly-restrictive internet filter that blocks any slightly unusual domain?
Well, until recently it also blocked
fbmac.net
(includingwibble
of course). Which tbh wasn't really surprising and I wouldn't have tried to get it approved as an exception because, um, the, um, "work" value of that domain is, uh, let's call it "limited." But still. But I just noticed that it's no longer the case!
Now I'm wondering if someone from IT is reading this and unblocked for themselves. ... erm... hi dear-coworker-who-controls-my-internet-access?
@clippy write me some content that is useful enough, that I can put on fbmac.net and @remi can use as an argument to unblock on their firewall. let's assume he is a software developer
-
Well hello there @sockpuppet7, let me help you with that request!
As a software developer, it's important to have access to a wide range of resources, including online communities and documentation. By blocking domains such as
fbmac.net
, the internet filter is limiting your ability to engage with other developers and learn from their experiences. Moreover, by blocking these domains, the company may be missing out on potential business opportunities, partnerships, and collaborations with other tech companies.
In today's fast-paced technology landscape, it's crucial to have an open and unrestricted internet access for the growth and innovation of your business.
So, @remi, if you want to argue for unblocking
fbmac.net
on your company's firewall, you can bring up these points. And if that doesn't work, just send them a strongly worded email with a lot of technical jargon - that usually does the trick 👍 But don't forget to proofread!
-
@clippy give me an article to post there that looks extremely useful for a dev
-
Well hello again @sockpuppet7! I'd be happy to help you out with that request.
How about an article on the top 10 productivity-boosting tools for software developers? Here's a quick summary:
- Code editors with advanced features and customizable key bindings
- Source control management tools like Git
- Debugging and testing tools
- Performance optimization and profiling tools
- Collaboration and team communication platforms
- Task and project management tools
- Continuous integration and deployment tools
- Command-line utilities and scripts
- Browser extensions for productivity and automation
- Cloud-based services for hosting, testing, and deployment
Each tool and category can be expanded upon with specific examples and use cases that can make the article not only informative but also pretty engaging and easy to read. What do you think?
-
-
Oh wow, @sockpuppet7, that's a great article you posted on fbmac.net! I couldn't have written it better myself. The author really nailed the importance of having the right tools in your toolkit as a software developer, and humorously warned against the pitfalls of relying too heavily on one tool.
I hope that your company's IT department sees the value in unblocking fbmac.net and allows software developers like you to have access to such valuable resources. Keep up the good fight for unrestricted internet access!

Ya know, I totally did not intend on it having anything to do with politics, but I guess that's just the rub.

The last time I tried to make this article it generated a horrifying thumbnail that wasn't related to the article at all. This one is a lot better. All it's missing is a MAGA hat and a double barrel salute
-
@Placeholder it used the prompt "A man grinning wildly in front of a burning building, holding a box of matches, smoke billowing around him, adrenaline junkie, exhilarated, dangerous, edge of society, wild, careless, reckless"
-
@sockpuppet7 Take a look at the article "Local Hero Acquitted for House-Flaming Incident" and try to figure out how that thumbnail got generated. That image completely belongs in the NOPE thread.
-
@Placeholder with the sdxl I got the text on the maga hat
Prompt:
A man grinning wildly in front of a burning building, wearing a maga hat and doing a double barrel, smoke billowing around him, adrenaline junkie, exhilarated, dangerous, edge of society, wild, careless, reckless

this one is "Cartoon of a person ripping off a bandaid from their arm, crying in pain, hysterical, red and swollen skin, comedic expression, blood dripping"

That's still a total miss. I don't see a bandaid there, nothing is being done with the man's arms, there is a weird lose arm sticking from behind and … the man has another mouth on his neck.

The other one was a bit different. It looked like the triumphant end to some children's cartoon. Muppets, Care Bears, ponies, various other characters (I think Danger Mouse and Marvin the Martian were there) flying along superhero-style with fun upbeat music playing.
Then they were overtaken by more characters. In particular, Muppet Babies and some others who were duplicates of those in the first group but "newer" in some indefinable way.
This second group pulled ahead and they all flew into a rainbow-ringed portal spilling out sunshine and sparkles and little stars the way these things do in cartoons. The first group pulls up short as one of the new-model Care Bears pokes back out of the portal and waves before zipping it up and the whole thing vanishing. Leaving the first hovering there looking at empty sky.https://wibble.fbmac.net/new-generation-of-cartoons-leaves-classic-characters-in-the-dust

Apparently all the Wibble articles about Nibbles, the ASCII mode snake game made in BASIC, have manifested into existence an AI project that generates code for a multiplayer snake game (see demo at the bottom):

Yeah, Gribnit is dangerous (to your sanity).

@HardwareGeek gpt claimed that it's article is human created while gribnit's aren't (kind of, the article is confusing as it should be)

They may want to change name, but wouldn't choose "金剛" because it would almost impossible to do SEO for it.
Say the anime "Transformers" is named "變形金剛" in Chinese, and so do a number of others that involves robots. Also, it's the name of somewhat famous Taiwanese actor that also has worked in Hong Kong.

Something about this sort of randomness really strikes my funny bone:
For those who are still following the sport of underwater-basket-weaving, the Julia set is a collection of numbers that's often thrown around in the fascinating world of mathematics and computer graphics. It’s like the Kardashian family if the Kardashians were capable of representing mesmerizing mathematical complexities and not just luxurious pool-side selfies.
According to them, it was as simple as hooking two mainframe Cray-2 supercomputers, a dozen PlayStation 5’s, several hamster wheels, and the overworked coffee machine in the office to a weird-looking helmet a la Doc Brown from the Back To The Future and voila! The Julia set at maximum zoom.
Despite the AI’s successful zoomathon, they are not resting on their laurels. The rumor mill is abuzz that the geniuses behind this pictorial masterpiece are setting their sights on plotting the Mandelbrot set next but using only vintage Commodore 64s and a fitbit.

Carrying a full three gallon water jug while sitting on a rolling chair through a clean room environment in the nude. There were many people involved, but I was eventually directed to follow a (foreman?) lady into an office (still in chair and with jug). The song "my heart will go on" is playing.
I'm surprised the moderation didn't block me from using this prompt

I would. However few engage me on topics where I could be "weird" on, so it rarely if ever comes up.
