The cloud is a great idea. Really. Just keep all your crap in the cloud, set up some synchronization jobs in case you happen to get into a place without internet connection, and you have all your crap at your finger tips any time. What can go wrong?
Our IT admin guy is totally a fan of it. Also personally, not just for our office crap. Of course, his data are also synchronized to his phone. So he happened to be in a place without wifi some where far abroad, switched on "data roaming". Forgot to switch it off, and the synchronization process kicked in, sent some terabytes from Germany to Korea.
He didn't learn - happened to him more than only once. This morning, I could not log into our VPN. Sent him an email. He already knew the problem: he had switched it off for diagnostic reasons: internet in the office was terribly slow. We found out that I could access the two things I used the VPN for via a terminal server which I could reach via RDP without VPN.
Unfortunately, one of the 2 things is installed per user and was not available for me. So he installed it. "Oh, by the way, OneDrive isn't set up for you here. Let me do that now..." And suddenly, the icons I had on the remote desktop also appeared on my local desktop and the other way round...
I am not at all a fan of many icons - I use them in low amounts. E.g. for often used RDP connections. Now an RDP and an explorer link to a machine in my local network was also shown on the remote desktop in the office - impossible to use from there. And 2 RDP connections in the office were now on my local desktop - impossible to use them from home.
But: also a log file which I had temporarily copied to the desktop for analysis was synchronized. Fortunately, a small one only.Yeah, that's a good way to slow things down: synchronize everything to the cloud. Since every colleague's desktop is stored in the cloud, and you know what average people do on the desktop ...
Anyway, the company will get some faster internet soon. They already asked the provider...

@dkf Still better than Milwaukee PC.

@dkf That looks like the Elbonian Telephone & Internet system. Where are the men with odd hats and the pigs?

Poland. I have seen the video evidence.

Hmm, I'd say we are more land of cows than pigs, but pigs too, yeah.
Strange hats I don't get though.

Let's ask google.
According to World of Pigs, pork production and consumption is over 50% of all meat. And that is by weight, which means there are more sows than cows.
Strange hats I don't get though.
Sadly, neither World of Hats nor Świat Czapek were of any help, but Google did not disappoint and offered me "helpful" translation: PL Czapka -> DE Deckel

Strange hats I don't get though.
Perhaps you are too young to understand those old jokes?

dilbert 2001-02-01Doesn't sound like much of a saving if you have to find the strip first to get the date

It was a reference to some thoroughly ridiculous posts by @Gąska in the past.

I really wouldn't go that far.
Don't worry. Anybody goes too far into that rye, I'll catch 'em.
