Status: My Christmas present is apparently getting hit by a $3,350 "charge back" on Friday.
I'm not even sure how that's possible... I never even deposited $3,350. It must be a mistake.
Now it says the account's overdrafted and I can't even call the bank and talk to someone until Monday.

Ouch. What store thought you stole something?

Status: Alright, I'll admit, 4k is pretty beautiful perhaps. But even better, is 20 FPS.
Those 4 extra frames per second really make a difference!

Same here, just that I skip the steam part.

Status: In the market for a new chair. The goddamn "gaming chair" I have now is rather shite after all and may have actually contributed to my neck and head problems.
I've been combing local stores. Curiously, one of the models I've found is called Jeff. Now, I'm not superstitious, but...

Naw, the other company seems to have finally backed down. The threat of the big stick seems to have sufficed.
But, yes, I've got legal insurance. It's not that expensive over here and a consultation is free.

It’s ok, we all aspire to your level of petty grumpiness.

Turns out it was my estranged wife. She cashed a bad check at the bank where we still have a joint checking account, so when the check bounced they charged it back to our account there. Since the check was cashed, not deposited, nothing showed up in the account activity until the charge back did.
She's going to pay me back, she says...

@Applied-Mediocrity what does a "gaming chair" do?
-
@Applied-Mediocrity said in The Official Status Thread:
In the market for a new chair.
Try before you buy. Also look up what the best position for good posture is; you want the chair to be maximally comfortable when you're using it correctly. Your neck, back, waist, shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees and ankles — heck, basically your entire skeleton — will thank you for it. And don't be afraid to spend on a piece of furniture you're going to use a lot in order to get something that doesn't hurt you.

Nothing! I might have gotten a bad one. I had hoped it games so that I don't have to, but all it does is sit there!

It destroys your lower spine and has speakers in it by your head that can break. The cheaper models only destroy your lower spine.
They're usually like vaguely j-shaped teeter-totter things. So that you can be constantly using the muscles around that curved lower spine for balance.
-
@Gribnit Speakers by the head yes! I've sat on chairs like em but the speakers sounded very tinny. Meh.
-
@stillwater said in The Official Status Thread:
Speakers by the head
Only on all but the cheapest models. Not aware of any offering, say, a good wireless dongle to something in the chair with a plug for headphones. But the spine destruction properties are basic to the gross physical design.
-
@stillwater said in The Official Status Thread:

They're just designed differently to your typical office/desk chair.
Gaming chair:
-
@Gribnit Oh oh I don't remember if it is Linustechtips or unboxtherapy on YouTube where they show off something like you said. The gaming chair looks more like a gaming station if that makes any sense and it has got so many features holy shit.
As for the spine, I still haven't used a chair I feel totally comfortable in. Something is always off. Me thinks I will throw money at the problem and see what happens when I need to get a new chair.

This one seems to lack the spine destruction features.
-
@loopback0 Okay the chairs like this are what we usually refer to as "ergonomic" don't we? Yes this looks like you could sit on it and play games for hours continuously but it's comfortable even if one ain't gaming.
-
@stillwater said in The Official Status Thread:

Ergonomic chairs don't normally look like you took a racing seat out of a car and bolted the wheeled base to it. Some of them are probably cheaper too.
@stillwater said in The Official Status Thread:

Quite. Just because it's a gaming chair doesn't mean you're only allowed to use it for gaming.
-
This reminds me that I need to get a new desk chair for home at some point.
The wood cracked where the back bolts to the base and now the back is held upright by a ratchet strap.
-

That's the idea now. The problem is most of them have got the sort of fabric that isn't exactly easy to clean. I have a bad habit of
keeping snacksWhat do these people claim that makes a chair a "gaming" chair?
It looks like it's ripped from an old ricer Civic with those blinkenlights and vee-takk enjins! The only thing missing is the racing-style seatbelts.
The thing is - it isn't very bad. It just doesn't support my neck very well, which is exactly what I am now complaining of.
@dkf
A sage advice.Concise and to the point, I might add. Some days ago I went to an ergometrist who explained this to me at length. A nice young lady who, alas, was also part psychiatrist and asked me why am I so depressed. Handed me a piece of paper with mandala frame and color pencils. See, I chose bright colors because that's how (I think) they are supposed to look! But apparently it means I'm actually a positive person inside. I didn't want to be rude, so I wasn't, but goddamn these armchair psychiatrists

Just reading this hurts. I've had neck problems for about 3 years now and I've changed quite a few chairs but just doesn't fucking work at all.
-
@stillwater raise your monitor, you may be developing programmer's hump, seen quite a few cases of it.
-
@Applied-Mediocrity said in The Official Status Thread:

Cue to get the fuck outta there.
-
@Gribnit it's actually the other way round. The monitor is slightly above eye level. If I keep it exactly at eye level, it feels weird. Am not sure if it is because I'm not used to it.
-
@stillwater said in The Official Status Thread:

Are you sure it's not your spine then? Because mine looks sort of like the quarter rest ()
@stillwater said in The Official Status Thread:

If it wasn't for the "nice young lady" part, I would have. It was one of the very rare occurrences of a female company that actually talks to me and all. Even though I know it was her job and the stuff that wasn't about ergonomics was mostly bullshit, I sort of... well... eh...
-
@Applied-Mediocrity said in The Official Status Thread:

Color all you want then.
And yeah I don't think the spine is fucked cos on the day's I don't sit in front of a computer and do physical work that might fuck your spine up, I feel totally fine. As soon as I start working the weirdness around the back starts setting in. I've never had any weirdness or pain sitting on beanbags though.

Mind finding something that hefts about 5-10 pounds, holding it in your hand, then extending that arm out flat sideways from the shoulder and reporting where exactly the stabbing pain happens?

It's got random RGB lights to give you seizures and a lot of programmable buttons for absolutely no reason.

I guess evolution sort of mixed things up here. It was supposed to be a place where programmers could store coffee for up to 14 days without stopping for a refill.

What do these people claim that makes a chair a "gaming" chair?
A gaming chair is not a chair for gaming, but a chair for gamers. I.e. people who will spend every waking hour in it. Gaming chairs are built for comfort and posture and weight tolerance and durability, doing nothing by halves, and cost a good bit more because of it.
