Google Translate is still bad

The second translation is accurate.

Isn't translate some sort of collaborative training of an AI, where it's possible to suggest more correct translations, and also verify that the one you got was good (or bad?) or have they changed it?
Anyway, if you can verify correctness, say that it's perfectly fine.

There was a time when you could set it to Somali → English, and feed it all sorts of racist Bix Nood type stuff, and get really interesting English in return. It seems to have gone the way of Translate's German beatboxing.

The second translation is accurate.
The obvious question is, "How does it translate the 'graveyard shift' part of 'He works the graveyard shift'?"
The whole sentence comes out as "Pracuje na cmentarnej zmianie", which translates back to English as "He works at the cemetery change".
Translating words in isolation rarely works well, and machine translation rarely works well, so when you put the two together, the results are going to be much less than perfect.

@Gąska How many iterations until you reach a fixed-point?
-
@topspin that was the last one.

At least one person has made a career out of Google Translate's imperfections.

Once upon a time we had a robot that did that, @translator I think.

@dcon Didn't that do ten passes of bing translate because google translate was getting, if not too good, then at least too consistent?

Don't know - I just remember it did multiple passes with some translate api...
I also don't remember why it was turned off...

@Eric-Ray I lost it at “I’m a confederate army.”

I also don't remember why it was turned off...I know I saw some Chinese whispers-style site that would do the same thing, and that site said it was no longer functional because Google started charging for their translation API.

I think the first is correct too.

@Tsaukpaetra nope, it's totally wrong. Should've been "nocna zmiana".

What about those graveyard shift workers who are doing a graveyard shift to the other side of the road?
-
@dcon they need to fill out a lot of paperwork before they start.

Maybe it's a chicken graveyard!
