This is the absolute very first I'm hearing of the The Witcher games being based on anything.
funny you should say this -- just the other day I found out that they're milking the game of thrones tv show for all it's worth and turning into an entire series of books...I don't have high hopes anyways, since the written adaptations of movies/tv series are never any good.
Oh, yeah, they found some beardo in a hat to type it all in or something.
-
@bb36e And judging by how close to the TV series most of those books were published, I doubt the books are any good.

@MrL I mean, it does have to cross the ocean to reach you. Not to mention tariffs and other stuff that's only relevant when crossing international borders.
Those tariffs and other stuff get added on at our end, you don’t pay them to the American company that mails you the package. So you pay US$30 for your game, plus US$50 for shipping, then Customs in your country says the value of the game is over a certain amount (€22 in the Netherlands, IIRC), so you have to pay import duties over the full US$30 + US$50 = US$80, and after that the taxman might notice its value is over some other arbitrary amount (€100-something here) so you also get to pay VAT over everything. Your thirty-dollar purchase quickly becomes a hundred-plus-euro one instead.
This is why, last time I ordered something in the US, I asked if they could send it in two separate packages, because it was two items worth US$20 each including postage.
-
@Gurth It's probably easier to just immigrate here.
-
@pie_flavor immigration fees start from $800 (and they go up very quickly when your situation is special in any way) and youhave to wait between 2 and 30 years in line (usually about 12 years). And that's not including the cost of travel itself.
-
@Gąska Right, but how much stuff do you buy over the course of your life?
-
@pie_flavor things I can't get locally? Not many. The last one I remember was... you know, I never actually bought anything like that. I've had my grandma send me some Hershey's chocolate before they started selling Hershey's chocolate in Poland - does that count?
-
@Gąska Nah, Hershey's is dogshit.
-
@pie_flavor then no, there's literally nothing I've ever had to bring from USA that I couldn't get locally.
-

Not purely that, surely?

Nah, it's probably mixed up with some cheaper shit.
-
@dkf said in Polish Man Gets Mad Because He Made A Bad Deal:

That plus loads of sugar and just enough cocoa powder to satisfy labeling regulations.

I think it’s mostly hobby-related things that are likely to run into this problem, if you have a non-mainstream hobby. In my case, it was two sets of tracks (as in tank tracks) for a model kit: produced by an American company that doesn’t seem to have any dealers anywhere in the world — well, none I could find that had any in stock anyway — so ordering direct was the only viable option. Luckily they didn’t charge ridiculous amounts of postage, and in fact the postage on the packages I received was actually more than what they charged me. (IOW: good service, satisfied customer, would order there again.)

@MrL Saw it too when I was googling for the link above. Unfortunately to see the price (or order), you need to sign up for an account, and, let's face it: .
I have an old copy somewhere as well...
Edit: It's apparently USD30 to pre-order. Bleh... pre-order.
Yeah, 30$ for the game, which is fine, and 50$ for shipping to Poland which is... not.
Poland requires a $50 torrenting license?
-
@djls45 yes. Of course nothing really prevents you from torrenting without a license, but it's still illegal.

@dcon That's extremely expensive, even if it's the other party who cancels it.
