Helping parents: Getting rid of an accidental office 365 subscription.
-
So myself I never touched office 365 with a 10ft pole so I don't have a clue about it.
But my mum used to have an office 2007 license, and apparently at some point that refused to close and insisted she needed a subscription. She signed up for the one-month trial and has since been unable to get rid of the monthly subscription. She wants to get rid of it and go back to office 2007.
I'll be going over there this weekend. But since I never went anywhere close to this (don't even have a microsoft account) can anyone here give me any hints for where to look to cancel the sub?

Wait, you can't cancel a sub if any other sub is past due - and the only way they display that is by hiding the unsub link?

I remember having an issue like that many years ago with an AOL subscription (I know, a ). I called Master Card and they told me there was nothing they could do to stop the monthly charges. They told me to call AOL, which I already did twice at least.
After they explained that to me, I told them "Just cancel my card, nobody will be able to charge it, including AOL"
The agent then transferred me to her supervisor, who called AOL himself and got the two previous month reimbursed.

@TimeBandit I have heard of a beautiful approach which involves shipping boxes of sand at the offending company's expense. Apparently some cable companies will give you a return equipment box at request.

That seems to be a common theme with Mastercard.

That one is out of support. Get an Office 2016 permanent license which has extended support until 2025.
-
@marczellm I'm not going to be able to convince her of that.

Wait, why did you call Mastercard and not your bank? It's the bank that issued you the card, right? Why would you have to call bank's provider yourself?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the bank will be way more interested in keeping you happy than MasterCard, who don't (have to) give a shit about you. Also, you probably don't even have a contract with MasterCard itself - I'm 90% sure that I don't.

why did you call Mastercard
I called my bank's credit card division, you

It's kind of a big difference.
