I broked my Chrome on Android
-
Not coding, but putting it here as per usual on this forum. Google is not being helpful (or I'm failing at searching) so I'm bugging you guys. This is a screenshot of Chrome on my phone:
Yeah, not fun. What is even more interesting is what happens when I open the menu:
The menu seems to get the screen size properly and flies out of the weird cropped window thing that Chrome is occupying.
The only way I can get it to show in full screen is to hold the home button and select Chrome from the list of recent applications. What's weird is that the damned thing has a completely separate session running when I do that.
Anyone seen anything like this craziness? I tried force closing it, clearing all data and cache, no dice.
Android 4.4.4 BTW. Can't remember if there were any Chrome updates before it went bananas though.

Reboot?
Click/finger "accept & continue" ?
-
Chrome is missing its... erm... chrome, I guess.
-
Already rebooted. First thing I tried, the whole "clearing data" bit came after. That's also why I'm not signed in on that screenshot. And no, signing in didn't help.
-
First thing I tried,
Yeah but you didn't state that in the OP so now we can rant about instead of helping further ... But since I seem to be running out of options ... Can I go back at names calling?
-
have you tried turning it off and on again with the battery removed?
/me runs before something gets thrown at her.
-
Can I go back at names calling?
Yes.

Hard reset was considered but not yet implemented. I can use the damned thing (by futzing with recent apps screen, as stated), and I'd rather fix it properly rather than by force if possible, so if it happens again I have other options other than "rip the electrons out".
-
hmmm... i was mostly joking but ok. can you uninstall the APK and reinstall it? maybe it got borked by a recent thing and reinstalling will fix?
-
In that case: screw you! Or more exact: you are being chromed

Well, I can wipe out the updates... anything more will require additional tool.
Yeah, that did it. Going to try and update again, see if it breaks again.

You have lard for brains, monsieur!

there's always beta chrome.

i was going to recommend
Dolphin Browser
over Opera.... But at least we know the cause of it.

Used it before. It's good. But since I use Opera on desktop I can at least get those synced up.

Settings > Apps > Chrome > Uinstall updates
You could also use Google's or the AOSP/standard launcher instead of the custom one you got there. Chrome started doing some Android UI witchery that may have broke.

Tried this just in case, so I could report the bug to Smart Launcher guys if this is the case: nope, still broken.
Now, this is a custom ROM and shit can break at times, but this smells more like a Chrome bug to me.
-
Oh! You had to start by that. We don't support custom ROMS

Every time, without fail, my first thought is that this is an anti-PIPA sign.
In (regional) Croatian "tap" = "pipa"
-
-
Interestingly enough, current (limited) testing seems to indicate Opera is far less taxing on my phone, at least when browsing Discourse. Loading speed is about the same, but there's a lot less stuttering.
What gives, Google?

You don't want to know what it stands for in regional/colloquial Polish.
