Everytime something like this happens and everybody is excited and stuff I just feel like
Let's get back to consuming normal non-brainfucky-tech-free normal stuff.

I guess that Twitterer could have done more effort, but

@gąska Is "twit" also fine?
-
@jbert I prefer 'twat'

Though (as I expected) I get somewhat different points depending on which end I approach from; there's some perceptual hysteresis going on. And that audio webapp thing doesn't seem to work in current Chrome (on OSX); it trips some sort of security feature. I had to switch to a different browser.

I happened to spend some time with my sister today, we got out a tablet and opened the slider page - we were both listening via the same speakers, and even when she dragged the slider all the way to the right she couldn't hear Yanny, only Laurel. I still heard as in the screenshot.

I find that with sufficient self mind fuckery I hear both of em at the same time. Kinda like the other thing where you hear "Brainstorm" or "Green Needle" based on what you think.
-
@stillwater I could never hear needle, only brainstorm or greenstorm.

You just have to think yourself hard to the point where you hear needle :P

@boomzilla
Haha I love how it quickly escalated to "You hear Yanny? Well you should not!" followed by sudden crying and beating. wow. kids.
-
@stillwater the worst thing about having twins is you can't use the standard sibling arbitration rule of "they're younger, let them have it".

That's not quite true if one exited the womb before the other, even if only by a few seconds...
-
@lolwhat now that I think of it, I did hear stories about twins having fucked up childhood because they were technically born first, and thus had to agree with everything the "younger" one wants.

If you do, they're in danger of using the other interpretation of that phrase.

@dkf thankfully I'm Polish, and "ustąp młodszemu" is unambiguous.

@coldandtired Interestingly, if I move the slider immediately to the right I hear "Yaley" (could this be an ESL thing?).
If I then move it to the left it quickly becomes "Laurel", and while I could first move the slider a few "notches" to the left it's become harder to ignore hearing it as "Laurel". Repeating it a while left me with this:

When I'm not hearing "Laurel", I always end up hearing "Yally". I've never heard "Yanny" with the 'n'. Always with an 'L'.
-
@stillwater Yeah I've never heard the N sound either, but I wouldn't go so far as to say it sounds like an L sound. I originally said "Yarry" but it's not an R sound either.

What then? You hear a vague foggy consonant? :P
-
@stillwater I hear Ya??y where it definitely sounds nothing like Laurel :p

@boomzilla duck tapes and parsley.

parsley
I have no idea what you're talking about, but I suggest "Chinese parsley".
-
What, the, hell. Didn't expect to hear that voice til sometime next year.
It's an auditory meat tenderizer, if you must know.
-
@boomzilla Bar snips in person.
-
@boomzilla said in I had to hear this now so do you:
What's the explanation for that? Did they record each one over the same spot, so you can hear each of them, depending on which one you're expecting?
-
@jinpa probably not quite. Might not even be a convolution of them, but a legit adversarial waveform.
-
@jinpa I think it's just unclear audio being auto-corrected by your brain, using the suggestions given. It's similar to how someone can tell you that Another One Bites The Dust played backwards says "it's fun to smoke marijuana". You may or may not have made that interpretation on your own, but given the suggestion, you can definitely hear it

Turn me on, dead man.
