Unread already read in Unread

If the Unread page is left open, its links will point to the location in he thread that was 'latest unread' when the page was visited, not the post that is 'latest unread' when the link is clicked. I find this behavior most on mobile, when I switch to my computer and later switch back.
Why is it baked into the page this way? Why isn't there a /unread path on threads?

@pie_flavor so your bug report is "website uses links that don't magically update due to some external change"?

If i mark a notification in read in one tab, the other tabs are updated accordingly, so the idea of the 'forum' (though it feels more and more like a web application) updating state across sessions is expected.
-
@bb36e Do they update even if you haven't closed and re-opened the notification menu?
-
@ben_lubar can you upvote my post to generate a notification for me?

never mind. if i mark a notification as read from the notification dropdown, then the notification counter and the number in the tab icon change accordingly, however on /notifications that same notification is still marked as unread.
so i guess it's internally inconsistent.

@ben_lubar Other forum softwares use something like
[thread URL]/new
or.../unread
, that when accessed, automagically redirects to the URL of the latest unread post for the account of the user accessing it. One could bookmark that link if they wanted, and it wouldn't always lead to the same post if there's active posting and reading.NodeBB, however, generates static links to the post with the page. This is fine IMO, but can be confusing and frustrating for users who expect the other behavior.
For the purposes of discussion, newest unread vs last read is to me.

I've never seen any that do that.

Thanks for reminding me; I almost went a whole bug report without mentioning Discourse.
-
@pie_flavor when we were on Discourse, it also did not do that.
-
@ben_lubar Well, it certainly does now.

No, for some reason, CBS censors the word "hole" when used after "ass" or "butt", but not any of those three words in any other context.

@ben_lubar But
tthis isn't CBS
