"Homeowners Fail to Refinance"
-
Is it just me or are the people in these ads just impossibly ugly? For example: that guy with the fake-looking beard. One of his nostrils is, like, 5 times bigger than the other! And then there's the one with the guy who looks like Charles Manson on a bad hair day.
I bet that whoever came up with these made a conscious effort to seek out ugliness. I just can't imagine why. Are these images supposed to scare or depress me into some kind of rip-off mortgage? Are they an overreaction to some failed ad campaign in which attractive people were used (i.e. 90% of advertising)? I don't completely "get it" but there's obviously some kind of head-game going on here...

Sadly, I know the exact guys in the ads you are referring to. My only guess is that they are so freakish looking it sticks in your memory. Now, how they figure they can make the jump from remembering freaks to actually wanting to click on their ads is beyond my comprehension.

Yeah, I know what you mean. If somebody at the company behind the ads finds this thread, they'll probably be overjoyed at its mere existence. "We made it to DailyWTF! And they noticed the nostril thing!" LOL. I am about as likely to do business with them as I am to engage in a torrid weeklong affair with Henry Kissinger, and yet merely being noticed is good enough for them.
Advertising really sucks. Apparently free speech is totally overrated. </troll>

Either the ad was lost or adblock swallowed it here. ;)

Maybe it's to get people talking about the ads, including forum threads such as this one. If you're talking about ads for refinancing, the idea of refinancing can never be too far from your mind. As Oscar Wilde put it, "There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about."

It's all over the place. Pick an MSN news story and refresh it a few times. Or, it's on IMDB, e.g. at http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116277/ . Just click refresh until you get the ad. I've seen two basic variants, which I'll call "Stoned Jesus Mugshot" and "Feo Incognito."

Plz post teh ads.

I get Dutch adds, so supposedly they check my IP address and serve localized adds. Please post a screenshot for those outside the US.

The first guy is what I imagine Michael Jackson would look like had he been born & reared in a white lumberjacking environment.
