    • Completely amazing.
    • Was almost called Immortal
    • You kill Immortal people.

  • I've been trying to keep from playing, so I don't burn out. I've been helping out a friend who's continuing, though, and helped him head down to depth 250 in the delve, and fixed his magma orb build from the start of the league to be even more powerful than what's been his best build all league.

  • So: The new steel skills are okay. Not great for physical damage, though I have a feeling that as a gladiator, I'd be able to get some stronger impales. If I could get a haemophilia and a scaeva, I think the build would work. Maybe once the private league ends, I'll resurrect the build.

Meanwhile I started an elementalist autobomber that currently mostly uses storm brand and arc, and THAT one is great. Neither has THAT much of an issue with the syndicate.

  • @Magus

Yeah, thoroughly enjoying my Armageddon brand elementalist.

  • @Dragoon Being able to actually do incursions is the best part. I'm mostly just using the spells to make my heralds go off more, but BOY OH BOY do they!

  • BINNED

Wow. I got back to the game after a long break and holy shit, there's so much to do now. Delve is really interesting, and I love that you don't have to relevel masters every new league anymore.

  • @blek yeah! Was nice to see you on!

New league got announced today: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=SzkWGiW-usQ

They've gone and added a tower defense, and it looks good! The way the master missions will be working is pretty awesome, and overall stuff is great!

During legion I played more than I think I ever have, and the potential this league shows, while not on the same level, is very high. I may league start a sweep build even! Yeah, that skill is actually good now!

  • BINNED

@Magus Yeah, I put in a bunch of hours this league and then suddenly I didn't have time anymore, so I just managed to get a Freezing Pulse Inquisitor to ~85 and start maps and that was it.

The new content looks interesting, I'm not sure if I'm happy about the tower defense thing but maybe it'll be fun. I think I might give mines a try this time, the Saboteur changes look interesting and I've never done that before. The chaining poison skill (Cobra Lash) could be cool as well.

  • BINNED

Hahaha I found a Tabula Rasa on The Coast, literally 5 minutes into the league

  • BINNED

I know summoners got buffed but this is insane. I just killed Piety in literally a second while laughably undergeared. Skeletons are like meat grinders zooming around the screen at the speed of sound. and that's the normal ones, I don't have the Vaal version yet. I'm lovin' it.

  • @blek similar situation with blade vortex. My new character is going to be a raider using sweep, and it's going to be incredible.

  • So the league mechanic is probably the most enjoyable one we've ever had, with a good balance of difficulty and complexity, without being too much of either. My current opinion of how to deal with it is that slow is king: toxic rain, aspect of the spider/other hinder, chill, maim... Any of it is going to be extremely helpful. Same with ranged stuff. My strongest character is an explosion occultist, but the toxic rain felt way more relaxed. My sweep build is going to use slowing shocks from brain rattler, with maybe aspect of the spider and skitterbots to get some more slow auras. It's interesting stuff!

  • Java Dev

I really like the idea behind the new skill gem system.

Also I guess big-name ARPGs going mobile is just a thing now?

  • Day 1 in nz at the con was incredible. There's so much that was talked about... So many vods even I, as an attendee, have to go watch.

  • Okay so, I fly back home from nz tomorrow, but I'm going to put in a resume at GGG. I have residency, so I could totally work there if they wanted me, but here's the weird part: I don't want to make the game. I want to work on internal tools so that they can make the game better and faster, but I don't want to make the game. Weird feeling. It would be extremely weird to move overseas, but if I do it and they want me, I'll have friends to hang out with and a life, in exchange for losing having my family all being within 45 minutes.

I just want to make sure those guys can keep moving as smoothly as possible. It's incredible what they've been doing, and I want to help them out if I can.

This trip has been amazing. To just... Hang out and have friends again. In addition to an incredible main event.

If anyone has any questions about what the demo is like, I got to the end of it, and while I didn't catch enough of the story, I could answer some things, but suffice it to say it's incredible.

    🎉

After an initial run yesterday where I died from a trap in the same instance one of my minions delivered Izaro the killing blow, today I conquered the Merciless Labyrinth for my first time ever.

  • @PleegWat well done! I don't even go into the third one without 3k life, and I don't know how much I need for the eternal lab... 4k minimum or so? The lab is HARD.

  • Java Dev

@Magus This necromancer build is pretty insane. I've been doubtful over my survivability; mostly I stay alive by not being anywhere near the action.

Yesterday's final fight had ground spikes which I find harder to read. Today I had fire pits, which cause me much less problems despite working pretty similarly.

  • @Magus said in Path of Exile:

I assume that you mean 5k and that isn't a bad number to shoot for. If it is your first time doing Eternal lab I highly recommend getting all of the dark shrines and if you have the extra blessings of the goddess leaving if you don't get the traps disabled shrine. It allows you to focus solely on Izaro which makes it far easier.

If you are not familiar with the site: https://www.poelab.com/ is a great resource for lab layouts. If you are just looking to try the lab, check in every day and pick a day that has an easy layout/easy izaro stages.

If you can handle the map trials easily enough than the running of the lab itself is much the same.

  • @PleegWat

    Congrats.

I consider the poison darts/ground spikes to be the hardest room.

  • Java Dev

So I was wondering something about prophecies and the wiki isn't being helpful.

I have a number of prophecies which I sought randomly while playing the campaign and never ran into resolving in natural play. Based on the wiki, two of them require running into specific monsters in specific zones in act 1; a third can trigger in most of act 2.
Are these going to trigger at all for a level 76 character? Are they going to show up in the tracking area upon entering the zone or do I need to search the place for the monster? Or am I better off just sealing them to get rid of them?

  • @PleegWat

I don't know for sure if they will naturally complete at 76, but you are better off just sealing them. The pre-map prophecies are just not that good.

  • @PleegWat usually ones that require a specific monster give uniques. You can do them with an over-leveled character just fine. If it's a rare monster, they will also be in a map somewhere.

  • Okay so, metamorph has some incredibly cool items, and so does the general expansion, and man are the boss fights looking amazing!

  • Java Dev

So I didn't realize (though I should have guessed) that the old league was going to end before the new one starts. Now I spent half an hour cleaning up stash tabs (and being surprised the empty withdraw-only map tab stays around). And am wondering what to do next since actually playing seems pointless.

I also still don't know what I want to do as a character in the next league.

  • @PleegWat I normally spend this time theorycrafting, though that can be hard with the patch notes still on their way.

Things to consider: bosses are the name of the game this new league, and they'll be tanky. You're going to need a plan to get through to them.

Inquisitor ignores resistances on critical hits, and so that's what I'm going for, but you can also get some mileage from elementalist's shock scaling or a slayer's 2h+cull combo. I can also recommend occultist for a huge effective life pool with energy shield, and the ability to mess up the enemy 's cold or chaos resistance. Cold may be the better option this league.

Alternative strategies might be to focus on defense: aim for max block on a gladiator, with tempest shield and the anvil, and you'll be tankier than most. Endgame, you get the option of switching to facebreaker for crazy counter kills, but it's all about stacking block, fortify, armor, molten shell, and life for a tank that can really deal with the difficulty. Or there's also juggernaut, which is always solid.

Point is, no one knows anything anymore, so now's an exciting time.

We know bow skills are going to be crazy, but as a result they'll be expensive to play.

  • Java Dev

@Magus I'll probably consider it a while. I only got to about the end of the campaign once before, and this is the first character I spent serious time mapping on. I don't really know the options very well yet.

I did a bow build once before, and goofed on survivability. It may be worth trying again.

Since minions worked so well for me last league, I'm also considering a mine build.

  • @PleegWat mines are pretty fun, and not as clunky as they used to be, and they can't be reflected, so it's a good idea. The biggest risk is that you'd probably be a shadow, which means that you'll be in an area with crazy damage nodes all over the place and less life than even the ranger. So you'll need to be careful.

I really have no idea what's going to be best this league. It's extremely exciting!

  • @PleegWat

Depending on how much you are going to play the league, a starter char is usually the way to go. Something easy to level with minimal gear (totems, minions, jugg+anything really, etc...). This can easily make its way into maps with no investment at all and can be a good way to get some currency and see some of the fights from a "safe" perspective as you decide what build you want to play.

  • Java Dev

@Dragoon Well, I might drop a char in the first act or two if I don't like it, but I'm unlikely to drive a second one to maps.

  • @PleegWat

By use of the word drive, I gather that you are a slow leveler. Than yeah, a starter char is probably not a good idea. :)

  • I've been trying to theorycraft a pure elemental counterattack gladiator, preferably pure lightning to go with tempest shield. I'd probably use smite, and eventually use facebreaker or doryani's fist. The former would give better multipliers, but the latter might be easier to manage. Might need something that tanky this league, though.

  • So I may have to come up with a good CI build this league. Stuff looks dangerous out in the atlas. I'm almost to the atlas with my inquisitor, so I'll see how it goes.

  • @Magus

My BV elementalist (one of the only true melee builds left in the game, haha) hasn't felt bad so far. Only up to tier 5's however, so we shall have to see how it goes.

  • Java Dev

@Dragoon Meanwhile my templar is just into act 3 and I'm tentatively qualifying him as "Not as OP as the necro I played last league but may still do decently". I'll know some time next week.

  • @Dragoon just make sure you're not completing maps by tier anymore - that will not go well with the new system.

If you guys don't know how it works, the four guardians live in the four far zones of the atlas. You have to hang around out there until you meet them, then do a quest that lets you fight them soon after. Then the four retreat to the inner octants, which are too low tier to spawn them in, so you have to track down the towers and upgrade the zones. Then the shelf on the left of the atlas tells you the requirements to get the rest of the stones.

It seems like so much fun, and I'm be starting on it once I get home. No idea how I'll ever beat the green one though.

  • @Magus

At the moment I am just running any map that I get, so far that has taken me to T5 and 4 of the towers discovered, but that was really just mapping last night a very tiny bit saturday night, was a busy weekend.

  • Java Dev

@Magus said in Path of Exile:

Thanks for the heads-up — I hadn't looked into it at all yet but I'd have gone for that hook line and sinker.

  • sekret PM club

I should see if the Twitch Prime PoE bundle is account-linked or just a redeemable code. If it's a code, I could give someone this Divine-looking portal and eye cosmetic thing.

  • Discourse touched me in a no-no place

    @e4tmyl33t The former.

  • @PleegWat you still want the atlas bonus, but since the system is designed around leveling up all your maps, focusing on getting to the bosses to get the stones is more urgent: you can do the maps any time.

  • @Magus said in Path of Exile:

    a good CI build

Why should you care? Shouldn't that be dev's and QA's responsibility? If it isn't good, you should never see it.

I think "good CI build" is the only thing I've understood in this whole thread so far. 😀

  • @HardwareGeek 😁

Chaos Inoculation provides you absolute immunity to the most dangerous damage type, chaos damage, in exchange for all but 1 of your life. You basically have to pump everything into heavy shielding so your life is never reached, but it's one less thing to worry about.

The game is full of big, swingy options that change how entire mechanics work. It's one of the big draws of the game. It's much like Magic the Gathering, a game which the founder misses meetings for occasionally.

Anyway, I decided to build a bleed gladiator archer, using Venopuncture to chill all enemies and shatter them for Herald of Ice. I use puncture, eventually assisted by the new ensnaring arrow. All in all I like how it's going so far. This league is hard though: I've given up on mapping with my Templar until I can get enough loot to fix his resistances.

  • Java Dev

    I am in doubt.

I've been working on the assumption I'm doing a totem build and would be going hierophant. However, in actuality I've been primarily using smite using a staff, and I've been taking quite some staff passives.

The fact I'm currently in the labyrinth for my first attempt at my first ascension classifies this doubt as 'late, but not too late'.

EDIT: On the other hand, smite's pretty crappy against anything whose name isn't white or blue. And I just got killed by an exploding chest.

  • @PleegWat honestly, smite might be one of my favorite melee skills. It does pretty good damage, especially with its aura. If you're having damage issues with it, that usually has to do with the links: at four, I'd be using physical to lightning, elemental damage with attacks, and ancestral call. It's hard to fail then.

Totems should go well for sure, depending on the skill. This league more than any other I recommend trying to deal cold damage for the chill and freeze, but you'll probably be fine whatever you pick.

  • Well, as a nice change I find all 6 of my trials pretty quickly this league. Got my uber lab done last night (on a horrible lab night, think it was 13 rooms total, an that isn't even going for a full key run) so my BV Elementalist is going strong. Have two of the Elderslayers watchstones, have pinpointed the 3rd but I don't have enough maps in that section to hunt him yet.

So far the league has been pretty fun. The metamorph (and their attacks) going invisible has been fun to deal with, but as I am no longer in HC, they are not as annoying as they could be.

  • @Dragoon I'm really excited to get to mapping. The long term nature of the atlas now, with straightforward incremental goals and lots of them, is an extremely nice change.

And I've only fought one metamorph of a map boss, certainly never a combined one. I'm curious what happens if you fill the bar fully in the laboratory!

I might've linked in too much AoE to the smite. I'll look at what I've got linked in and what my alternatives are tonight.

I'm currently running a fire totem, which doesn't feel very effective. But then those things are hard to gauge, and it does its work without me having to point it at the enemy. I may check if I've got any alternatives banked.
