@accalia Ok, ran the furmark test at 1920x1080: http://www.ozone3d.net/gpudb/score.php?which=428414
I installed the Heaven benchmark but got an error:
Downloading the Valley one now.
looks like heavdn needs microsoft C++ redistributable but doesn't actually include it. hu-uh..... weird.
-
@accalia Yeah, installed 2010's redist and it worked:
Weird that it says the gpu has 4095 MB of memory. Didn't consider that 32 bit programs might have trouble dealing with 8 GB of video memory.
-
@Kian And the Valley one:
Temp rises up to 66º, but the GPU seems to be taking it easy.

Well, heaven is a bit old at this point, when it came out it was unheard of for graphics cards to have more than 4GB of vram.
it's still a decently demanding benchmark though so it's worth using, particularly if you're trying to diagnose issues that might be related to newer/older versions of directx.

Just one final update: Got the monitors! Bought 3x Dell Ultrasharp U2515Hx, 2560x1440. Currently set horizontally, so my desktop resolution is 7680x1440 :D Here's what it looks like:
-
@kian man, I don't even have room for such a big desk!
-
@kian And, a screenshot from World of Warships. That's my North Carolina battleship at port.
-
@gąska You'll note I actually needed two desks to fit everything. This thing is big.
-
@kian no, I mean just the screen desk. I'd have to disassemble either a closet or a radiator to fit it.

i'll note you have desktop icons displayed.
i hate desktop icons. destroyers of backgrounds they are.

My background generally isn't visible long enough to matter, most of the time. I think it'd be nice to have a display to stare off into the distance at that showed some kind of live wallpaper. However, unfortunately, that's .
But, uh, how do you turn them off? Asking for a friend. (I know how to turn off the special ones, but not how to hide the ones from misbehaved app installers, aside from deleting them.)

Step the first. Make your desktop visible.
Step the second. Right click on the desktop.
Step the fourth. Select "View"
Step the triangle. Uncheck "Show desktop icons"
Step the blueberry: Masturbate
Step the pink: Cleanup, then do a celebratory dance.

Unfortunately I had to skip step blueberry for that would take far too long and I have work in the morning. Accordingly, I have also skipped step pink. Fortunately, it appears to have worked nonetheless, and my desktop is now clutter free - at least to a superficial look.

Yes, as I understand it step blueberry is generally intended to prevent its namesake from occurring. I cannot take that step tonight, but there are many nights to come.

Niice. And now I want a new monitor. (Pfeh, I still need to recover from what I've already spent. Damnable pre-post-scarcity society.)
Speaking of which, I don't think I mentioned it here, but I did get one new monitor shortly after getting the computer into an acceptable state (the other three I already had):

Was looking up some stuff, and man, good thing I went with AMD and not Intel when I built this pc :D Dodged the Spectre / Meltdown combo.

I use my $300 i3 spec for things like "the computer in the garage", "the computer in the living room", "the computer in the kitchen (don't judge me)"
Why not get a single $300 laptop?
Or one main desktop PC and two or three Raspberry Pi Zero-Ws and a similar number of small AMOLED screens... or one desktop plus a tablet... or some permutation thereof.
EDIT: OK, that was careless of me. Next time I will check the date on what I am replying to.

goddammit @fblea!
