QR codes are black and white and have exactly one size of pixel, which is the same as the border width of the squares in the three corners.

FWIW afaik it's just the alignment blocks that need to be high contrast to each other, that's why you can have color as the background (but not necessarily why photo codes like above specifically work).
Edit: also see here where some dude butchered a qr code and provided explanations why they did or did not work:
Apparently the alignment blocks are important, the timing strips should be obvious, and then so long as the median pixels are correct, it's good.
Of course, if any such distortions happened to the codes above they would definitely be too far gone to be scanned, but having perfectly spaces pixels for each and every piece is apparently not a requirement.
