What a dumpster fire posting has become.

Mobile: Every new visit to the main page brings up every half-saved draft ever that all have to be minimized before I can actually see the main page. Awesome Show, Great Job!
Desktop:
- Same immediate popup as mobile, except only one draft that I can see, because the posting pane can't be minimized, only discarded or posted. That's real helpful if I needed to open another window to see more than about 150 vertical pixels worth of posts at the same time.
- No ability to have drafts in multiple threads. Because, you know, can't minimize anything anymore. Because reasons.
- Still no ability to shrink the posting pane at all. That is beyond shameful. It's Jeff level "you don't need..." thoughtlessness.
Very helpful state of affairs with somebody running around creating random threads all day.

You can shrink it, you just can't shrink it below a certain amount. IIRC there's a fix for it in a NodeBB version we don't have yet.

To about 2/3 of the window. Subtract out the site's 100-pixel toolbar and that leaves 190 pixels.

To about 2/3 of the window.
It depends how tall the window is, as it's a minimum size. It's supposed to be 40% of the window, although on mine it's closer to 50%.

IIRC the way it's actually used is some calculation with the minimumRatio as a starting point, and the effective minimum is whatever that result is (larger than 40%)

I have the window maximized at 1920x1080 resolution on the latest Chrome. I get 6-7 lines of single-spaced text visible. If I undock the window and shrink it, I quickly lose the ability to see even that much.
At full screen, the editing textbox alone might be between 40% and 50% but that's not counting the formatting toolbar and 30 pixels of padding around every single element that comes with it. It just bad, as if nobody anywhere tested it before pushing it out as a new version.

@Zenith Like I said, there's a fix. If you can convince Our Lord And Dictator to do an update.

@loopback0 You must not be familiar with the SDLC (Software Deployment LifeCycle).
- Software works.
- Major broken release happens. Quick quick quick! Install it before it's too late!
- Seven million years of fixes that people want .
- Go to step 2.
-
@Zenith said in What a dumpster fire posting has become.:
Software works.
Blasphemy! Step 1 does not exist.

-
@aitap Well it's not to be confused with the other SDLC (Shovelware Development LifeCycle).
- Software released with some serious problems.
- Requests for fixes filed.
- Seven million releases tweaking the font on some 5th level dialog that only shows in Outer Mongolian edition.
- Go to step 2.
You might remember this from other software such as FireFox: The Neverending Memory Leak and Windows 10: Who Moved My Paint?

Ha! I get mobile composer ever with Chrome's "desktop mode"!

Also, do you not have a red boob to minimize your posts?

Last I talked to @apapadimoulis, Inedo was trying to move us to a different server before we upgraded. Not sure where we are in that process.

You could track down the fan fiction he's reading in those tabs. But then you 'd have the kind of fanfic @Tsaukpaetra likes to read all over you.

First tab is a story about a black pegasus colt who has dragon eyes.
Second tab is a search for pron.
Third tab is one of said pron stories, a quickie with m/m and m/f/m.
Fourth is The Code Of The Geeks
Fifth is address lookup for an MRI I'm getting tomorrow morning.
Last is this weird site full of WTFery.

You can follow the bookshelf containing things I've read. Easier than a reverse-google!

What kind of self respecting forum going nerd doesn’t reflexively play with boobs every chance he gets?

It's "in progress", but the project isn't a priority and there's a lot of unknowns, so it's hard to say when. We do have a new server at our regular datacenter, however. We were thinking, why not get a new server at that datacenter to host the forums.
In the meantime, it seems there's little risk to an upgrade, assuming @boomzilla knows how to actually do it. I only know how to do it through delegation ...

I never noticed it before, but the classic "red boob" has been replace with this (whatever the fuck this is supposed to be):
And it isn't immediately obvious that clicking on it will minimize your post.

Dockerfile for a 1.14.2 upgrade is building now.

- For private chats, it's the counterparty's avatar (or a mosaic of them if there are multiple parties).
- For new topics, it's the category icon and corresponding background color.
- For replies, it's the nouveau red boob.
- The currently visible composer has an added eye glyph.
- Clicking any boob without an eye glyph will change the composer to that post
- Clicking the boob with an eye glyph will minimize the composer.
- This is not documented anywhere.

So that was a photochop. ⇑
I'm not in the mood of wrestling with CSS any more, so if anyone wants to help take this joke too far, have a go at this:
.fa-commenting-o::before { background-image: url('/assets/uploads/files/1596570311127-duckonaswing.png'); background-size: auto; display: block; background-origin: content-box; background-position: center; background-repeat: no-repeat; margin: 0; width: 31px; height: 40px; content: ""; padding: 0; }
